Less than a year ago I hired Amanda and her team to help me with my IRS debt. I owed back taxes in the amount of $60,000 plus dollars and it was growing every month. The first letter to my name only saying we have accepted your offer and the second in mine and my wife's name saying the same. Each one requesting a check for $480 USD and it would be over. I mailed the 2 letters and 2 checks last week and I am still in shock. $60 thousand dollars settled and gone for $960 total. Plus once paid all liens will be removed within 30 days. Liberty Tax prepared my taxes with an extensive error (more than once) that has caused me to owe…read moremany thousands of dollars in taxes and penalties to the IRS and the State of Colorado. I only found the error when I received a letter from the IRS, two years from the time I filed, stating that I owed $191,000 in taxes (yes, you read that right), but Liberty Tax (the local office AND the corporate office) would not stand behind the guarantee of making it right, so I had to hire a new CPA to repair the issue (still ongoing) and an attorney to regain the money I paid out because of their error. The IRS and the State of Colorado even began garnishing my wages. But, as my attorney discovered, because LIBERTY TAX IS IN BANKRUPTCY, they are apparently not financially responsible for any errors they make. This includes individual franchise owners, as they are protected under the bankruptcy as well. I was surprised to learn that Liberty Tax can still be open and individual franchise owners are still allowed to prepare taxes under the name of Liberty Tax because their bankruptcy is a "restructuring" bankruptcy---so while this bankruptcy is going on, if they make any mistakes at all, or if a past error is found, the customer/consumer will be responsible for paying for it. And Liberty Tax is not responsible in any way. Unconscionable.
