My tax preparer of many years passed and then the group I was originally with got inefficient, made errors, and charged too much. I have never used H & R but a friend recommended the location here in Belmont Shore on 2nd. They staff was very friendly, got me right in and was organized. I was pleased to work with Elena who was very nice, prepared my taxes quickly, and gave me a first time prep discount. The experience was pleasant and I'm appreciative of their professionalism, fairness and efficiency. I felt listened to which is important and we were able to work together very quickly. My appointment only lasted about 30 minutes and I was out the door with my tax forms, and simple automatic filing. My taxes are relatively easy so I don't know about how they are for complicated taxes but for my self employment, they were again friendly and quick. read more

What a disaster! Went to them because I was filing jointly with my wife for the first time. Very little effort was paid to getting the maximum return and walked out with a standard deduction, not the end of the world. We got a few thousand $$ return and were happy enough. But over a year later a notice from the irs that we over counted social security and therefore owed the irs $7k. Found that they entered the social security for 2 incomes under one income; so they botched our tax return. They told us it would be amended and then we got a check in the mail to cover interest and penalties from the irs , $300, if we waive our claim with h and r block. However a follow up on the irs website indicated that the amendment had no effect on our tax bill and we are now subject to additional penalties and fees. I sincerely hope they can fix this and make it right and the review will be amended if they do. But for now all I can is warn others not to get in this horrible situation of h and r blocks making. read more

I had Ric Simmons as my tax accountant and he was kind enough in person. Unfortunately he didn't get back to us for a week or two. When he did he said how it was a complicated issue and was going to bring in another professional to assist. We understood and said okay. Well three weeks later we still hadn't received any updates even after calling the number on his business card. I had to call his office to find out that he wasn't working on it and that Julio was going to help us out further but needed additional information. Which would've been fine if someone had let us know. Julio informed me that apparently Ric is on vacation and that is why the work was passed to him. Again not much of an issue if it was communicated. Will not be using this company anymore. read more

When I called to schedule an appointment they failed to mention that this office was closed and when I called to let them know they were rude and did not apologize for their mistake. They didn't prioritize me even though they made the mistake and had no availability that was convenient for me. I had my taxes done there by Patricia S. in 2015. I'd just gotten out of the Air Force and needed some corrections made to my taxes along with help on my current year's taxes. We did the following: Amended 2011 state taxes Amended 2012 federal and state taxes Amended 2013 state taxes Filed 2014 federal and state taxes The challenge with my 2014 taxes was that I'd received a chunk of disability severance from the military and knew it might not be taxable. It created a bit of an issue because it's such a rare case that this happens for people and not too many go back to claim the taxes the military takes out. The military also takes the taxes out whether they're supposed to be taken out or not because that's what the regulation has them do. The onus is on the individual to get that money back from the IRS. I'm fortunate to have worked military finance and have that insight, but a lot of others are not. I did the regulation digging and emailed it over to Patricia while she contacted the IRS and worked all the details out on their end. She was so helpful and thorough; I ended up getting just under $6000 back. Fast forward to yesterday. The IRS sent out letters to a large number of people who received disability severance explaining that they are entitled to amend their taxes to get that money back because it should not have been taken out. Thanks to Patricia's help and diligence, I don't have to go back and take care of this after the fact. read more

We come to this location for our taxes because we are loyal Patricia Salkowski fans! She has done wonderful work for us for many years, and actually makes our yearly tax day feel like going to see a friend. We were do-it-yourselfers for submitting taxes until we had a hiccup, prob in 2014 or so. We met Patricia to see if there was something better we could do, and after that first experience we felt like we had been missing the boat by not having a pro help us. So I called in last night and 8:03 p.m. To see if my husband and I could come in and do our taxes. I was told no that we couldn't come in because it was too late and our taxes sounded like they were difficult and would take awhile to complete. I hate to be "that guy" but what horrible customer service! And complete laziness by the staff and receptionist that answered the call. I guess they weren't in the mood to make money last night. I decided to call and try the location on 7th street and Orange in Long Beach, Ca and they took us in at 8:45 p.m. We started our taxes and were out of there location by 9:12 p.m. They are a great example of what customer service should be. My appointment was made early this year and I was a little aprehensive when they told me my regular agent no longer availabe. My appointment was made with Tanisha Williams. I arrived a few minutes early and Tanisha came to greet me. I found her to be highly personable and engaging. She proceeded to review my statements and ask the important questions. It's true, this office does live up to the hype. When I called in two weeks ago to set an appointment, I asked the friendly receptionist to hook me up with someone who was seasoned. I was being audited and needed to file an amended tax return. The receptionist assured me that Lois E. Smith would be great. And- she was right! When I came in, I explained what I THOUGHT was wrong with my tax return. Lois carefully went through my previous tax return and found a ton of errors, and told me what was wrong with the previous return. She worked over two hours with me (mind you, an hour after the office was officially closed) to help me get my paperwork straight on what I needed to send to the IRS. She showed me the numbers along the way and consistently kept me in the loop. I actually think now, I got quite lucky finding her. I highly recommend this office. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. Lois did a great job and she made a client for life today. read more

We went to H&R for the first time 3 years ago because things got very complicated for us, too complicated to do our own taxes at home. By chance, we were set up with Rich W. and we couldn't be happier, even now, 3 years later! Rich was able to navigate through so many complications that popped up, and continued to come up, as recently as this year. We even took advantage of their "second look" program and were more than happy to get MUCH more money than we expected to ever get back. The tax person I got assigned to was horrible. The lady looked at me all wrong and she rolled her eyes at me. She told me that I she didn't believe that what I was claiming on my taxes and she basically told me to leave the office until I showed her proof. I've been doing my taxes for five years I've told her and nobody has asked me to prove anything. She said she didn't even believe my job. Worst experience ever and when I walked in all the employees were sitting down eating pizza and had me wait. read more

THE WORST COMMUNICATION EVER! I made an appointment with Marney a week ago and today I got Yazmin instead. There was no COMMUNICATION as to why this happened? An explanation would have been nice, or even a choice for that matter. In addition, my tax "professional" continually checked her cell phone as she was doing my taxes!!! She also spoke Spanish to another employee as I was sitting there, obviously excluding me from the conversation. As a communication professor, this was the single WORST customer service I have EVER had! This affected H &R Blocks credibility as a corporation, a local business and more than likely the quality of my taxes. As a single parent of a three year old, every dollar counts. After returning to work in 2013 and filing my own taxes; I was disheartened to receive a letter from the IRS (12/2014) stating that I owed nearly half of my total earning for the previous year. I was panicked and was relying on the possibility of a minimal return for 2014. Since my earning were barley getting us by for the year. I was able to schedule an appointment the following day after having received my W2. Unbeknownst to me Patricia (Patty) S. was put in my life. She initiated her hospitality from the start, making sure there was coffee available; since I was the first client of the day. Not only did she bring me to tears when I was told how much I would be getting back . But she extended her time, effort and knowledge well beyond anything that I could have imagined. There are "Great People left in the World!" She made several exceptions to her normal work day to rectify my IRS issue, so that it could be completed prior to my relocation to another state the following day. H&R block is fantastic. Took my taxes to them last year, I had done them myself, but was having issues with some complicated items such a rental property. They fit me in, even though it was the end of the day and did a free second look. David Tran was exceptional. He was very patient with me (I am not the most organized record keeper), got me in on a very stressful day for me, and then he found me lots of deductions I had overlooked. Bottom line is he saved me tons of money and was so polite and courteous and really knows his stuff! They won a customer for life. I won't be going anywhere else to do my taxes. read more
