She completed my taxes from start to finish and gave me the opportunity to ask questions and make comments throughout the entire process, which took approximately one hour. David Tran was great, as usual. We first had an appointment with him last year at another location but when we heard he moved to the Glendale office, we happily followed. My husband and I feel that he truly has our best interests at heart and works hard to make sure we get the most out of our taxes. Love going to this location and my tax professional is Shirley Louie. I've been going to her for years now and my mom started going to her last year as well. She answers all my questions and explains everything clearly. I now send her my documents prior to my appointment to ensure I don't forget anything and need to keep going back. And finally, the guy comes out of his office to tell me that his preceding appointments were late, thus he was late and couldn't see me. He told me to leave and come back another time. I would have understood if they had called me in advance and asked to reschedule. But to cancel the appointment when I already showed up and wasted my gas and my lunch break? Booking an appointment over the phone, I was assured that everything would be arranged since I have to file an out-of-state tax return. But arriving at this depressing location, I was greeting by a mostly-empty office (it's the off-season, sure, but I was unprepared for the level of depressingness) and the invitation to sit down, have a styrofoam cup of water, and wait for my preparer, who was, despite the fact that I had an appointment, not ready to see me. So I waited. And waited. After about 20 minutes, the receptionist (who assured me several times that she was herself a tax preparer) asked me about my state returns. I repeated to her what I'd said on the phone: out-of-state, specifically New York State. She told me that she wasn't sure that my preparer was certified for NY taxes despite the assurances to the contrary on the phone. So she went to check. While I waited, another preparer greeted a client and made sure not to keep her waiting. But I kept waiting. Finally, after staring at a wall for 30 minutes, the receptionist-cum-tax preparer returned and apologized (she was at least apologetic) for keeping me waiting and also informed me that my preparer (still hiding out somewhere, never to be seen) was in fact NOT certified to prepare returns for New York State. And so I left, having wasted my afternoon. I should have planned on spending more money elsewhere and setting up an appointment with a reputable professional, but instead I opted for frustration, the privilege of going home and writing this lame review, and finding a real tax preparer. No frills here. My wife and I came here 3 years in a row to have our taxes done and each time the folks doing our taxes barely looked at us, did all the forms on what looked like a really easy program and charged us $250 for it. They claim they can for sure get you a great tax return, we payed 2 out of 3 times we went there and into the thousands. When we brought up their advertised claim (which they also have pictures all over the office of happy looking people boasting how much H&R got back for them) they said there wasn't anything they could do. It's a small office and we recognized all the people, no one remembered us, not even the guy we went to two years in a row. Poor, poor customer service. We won't be going here ever again. read more

I'm not gonna lie the location totally sucks. There is almost nowhere to park so come early. Other than that if someone has complicated taxes before you you might have a wait but I didn't. I'm the complicated one. Ask for JC. He's cool and he's pretty quick. The prices are high but that's the same with all H&R blocks and all CPA's. The accountant was confused and unable to figure out how to file my taxes. When I tried to offer suggestions, he waved his hand at me to dismiss me. This was incredibly rude and disrespectful. Now I get a call from him that he did not file correctly, big surprise, and my taxes were rejected by New York state. I always get a healthy refund, and now he is saying I won't get one. Worst worst worst service ever. I went to h and r block and met a lady by name Emilia Cota. She said she would assist me in preparing my taxes and asked for more documents. I got all my documents and then I visited there office. I was told that she was on leave that day. Then I called her the next day to confirm if she is available but she never responded my calls, messages and emails. I called there office asking them to assign me a new tax preparer which they didn't do it. Then after a week of wait I did my own taxes. Over all I had the worst experience with h and r block. This was my first yer doing my taxes on my own. I went to H&R because my sister had gone the previous year and she said they did a good job for $50. Well my bill was about $250 with about different forms used. I was shocked at the end when Hagop Mazmanian told me my fee. He did do a wonderful job and took his time not rushing through things and explaining any questions i had. This was his first year doing taxes and therefore there were some areas he needed to check on. Overall the experience level could have been better for Hagop but his patients and hardwork balanced out. The price on the other hand was a bit pricy and i could have gone to a individual tax professional and paid about the same. read more

I have been coming to this location for ONE reason and that's Shirley Louie!! She is the best and has been taking care of my returns for years. She is easy to work with and always has my best interests in mind. For example, this was a particularly strange year with all the new changes to the tax code. After I had already filed and gotten my return I got a call from Shirley who in retrospect had found a deduction that was not available in Feb. She set up all the paperwork for me (including a pre addressed envelope to send it all off in) all I had to do was sign one line and now I am waiting for another check! She also went out of her way to figure out how much I need to withhold this year so that the new tax laws dont leave me with a giant bill next year. the people working there are so tricky ..I received a mail from sears corporation which H&R block is gonna do free tax return for their employee's went to their office and showed them the mail they took my mail and kept it ,after doing my tax returnes they charged me almost 100 bucks! and when i asked them about the mail they told me which mail?!and then when i insisted they just said oh we are sorry we lost your mail but we will try to find it later..and you have to pay anyway...they are so tricky people and this was the last year that i did my tax in this company..i am so disappointed read more

This is the worst possible place to do your tax return. I went to H &R 5 mins before my scheduled appointment and waited 40 mins there! Just after looking my W2, the guy who was dealing my case, asked $300 as a fee. He didn't even calculate/estimate my tax return. He was very RUDE and very UNPROFESSIONAL. $340 in 2007 plus another $40 or so for the "peace of mind." Got a nice refund -- excellent. Two years later, I get a demand from the IRS. HR Block had screwed up my return and I owed $600. Attempts to get HRB to rectify this have been fruitless and frustrating and remain unresolved. Staff at the office in Glendale appear to be purposefully unhelpful. FAIL! read more

Been coming to H&R Block for a number of years now. Before my wife passed we went in to do our taxes and met with Emilia Cota, one of the sweetest and most pleasant tax preparers we ever dealt with. My wife loved working with Emilia so much that she decided we would come to her exclusively from then on. Even though my beautiful wife passed away unexpectedly in late 2014, I have continued to seek out Emilia so that she can help me file my taxes- after my wife passed my taxes got a bit more complex for me since there were a number of additional issues that came up on top of the fact that my wife always took the lead on filing, and I was largely in the dark when it came to fiscal matters such as this. Emilia has been so helpful, offering me a lot of good financial advice and assistance. Although I have since moved away from the area, I will continue to work with Emilia Cota even if it means traveling a fair distance to do so. H&R Block gets my highest recommendation because of her- I would not refer anyone anywhere else. read more
