We ordered the Munich schnitzel, the pork knuckle with potato dumpling and for dessert the kaiserschmarrn. The schnitzel was the best thing we had. It was crispy on the outside and went well with the potatoes. The pork knuckle was dry at some parts and moist at others. The crispy outside was too crunchy for me. For me personally I didn't enjoy the potato dumplings. But the portion are very generous. The dessert was a bit on the sweeter side. You can get it with raisins or without. We got it with as its traditionally served with. It adds that extra chew. It goes well with the apple sauce and the rhubarb sauce. Service was really nice. They checked up on us a few times. They spoke perfect English. Food came out fast. The bathroom was also really clean and had all the feminine hygiene products you would need. There's also magazine available in there. To begin with... Beer great...food outstanding...Schnitzel and spaetzle is the real German experience. Comes with nice little side salad. Bit pricy but when you deliver deliciousness it's worth it. Downside: service was PAINFULLY slow. Now the server was busting her rump to clear tables and bring bills to others but it took us 15 minutes to get menus and 20 minutes to get beer! When I tried to flag her down she didn't look at us but offered a grunt of acknowledgement...(thanks). I have been here a few times now and must say, the food is excellent. The atmosphere is cosy and very Bavarian and, the service is good and friendly. Four of us went here for lunch and, we all enjoyed it very much. The Kaiserschmarrn we had for dessert was simply amazing and, we all loved it. They have a good few things for vegetarians and, the salad choice was also good. The side salad I had was excellent and made with fresh greens. I really like the organic sausages they have on the menu and, the drink choices are plenty. They serve Augustiner beer here along with wines, schnapps, aperitif and non alcoholic cold and hot drinks. This is a neighborhood place for us and we've been coming here for a few years now, often several times a month. My boyfriend was born and raised in Bavaria, and this is our favorite Bavarian restaurant in Munich. The current management took over a few years ago and from what I've been told made the place much better. There is a standard menu with items such as Nurmberger sausages, Brotzeitteller, and several kinds of Schnitzel. There are also daily menus and seasonal menus in addition. There have been Advents-themed menus, Bavarian wild game menus, etc... They mostly use local meats and produce and the food is prepared to a very high standard. There is a lunch menu with items that rotate throughout the week. They also have very good classic Bavarian breakfast items like Weisswurst. Cozy ambiance and good service. In the summer there's also a back garden with a little cottage that has a table for 4 set up. Sometimes they have special events ranging from live music to book readings or for major football events, viewings. If you're visiting the city and want well-prepared, authentic Bavarian food, skip the tourist traps and come here. Location is easy to get to on the U2 and still quite central. If you come in the evenings, even during the week and are with a group of four or more, a reservation is recommended. It gets quite busy on weekends. Typically most of the really high-end Bavarian places are located in countryside inns, but here they manage to retain the quality of food and ambiance within the city. There's also free wi-fi available, but you have to ask a server for the login and password. read more

All day I had a schnitzel dish in mind, but my taste buds were lingering for something else that I saw in photos that consisted of creamy mushroom reduction. As I rarely consume red meat, I was pleasantly surprised by how well this dish was served and I most enjoyed the warm spätzle with the mushroom reduction, and the delicious medley of fresh peas and turnips, and the carrots and broccoli. The staff is also really great and attentive and they wear traditional German dirndls and lederhosen all year round. While travelling through Europe in June, my girlfriend and I stayed in the Universitate neighbourhood in Munich for a couple nights. Gorreshof was suggested to us by our AirBnB host as a great local restaurant serving up traditional Bavarian fare. A couple other locals also told us that Gorreshof had one of the best schnitzels in Munich. We ordered the roasted pork with potato dumplings and side salad and a veal schnitzel with sauerkraut. The schnitzel was definitely top notch. The veal was perfectly coated and fried to perfection. The homemade batter was full of flavour. It was the critical factor making it one of best schnitzel's either of us have had. Unfortunately, the pork dish was far too salty. We can handle a fair share of sodium, although this was approaching inedible. Prices are mid-range to high... $18 euros/main. Beer is average and on the pricey side. The crowd is a good mixture of young professionals and families. We were likely the only tourists in the place. Service was a bit rushed, but that seems to be the nature of the place. read more

This was our first dinner in Germany. Not knowing, I made a reservation, although at 1730 that wasn't necessary, it was pretty empty. Only a few other tables were there. The waitress was very sweet, asked us is we spoke English or German, gave us English menus. Hubs ordered the wiener schnitzel and I ordered the kasspatzn, which is basically mac n cheese with crispy onions on top. I don't normally eat meat, but when on vacation, I am more open. The schnitzel was fabulous. The kasspatzn was wonderfully cheesy, but you better like onion, because it's heavy on the onion. If I had know, I would've asked for half the onion, or just gotten something else, but there's a LOT of onion in and on, and I'm not a fan of onion, but even with that, I really liked it, so that's really saying something. We came to this restaurant for an early dinner as a tourist. This is a typical Germany restaurant with various traditional dishes. Costumers were a blend of tourist and local. We ordered sausage as a snack and a toasted roster pork as main dish, which was "munichen" according to their recommendation. The beer was good and full of flavour as well. I would recommend this place to tourists, as it is relatively fur from sights so the neighbour hood wasn't too noisy but it was clear that this place was popular to locals. 2 stars due to the fact that something might have gotten lost in translation. However, body language is universal. Was there at 10:30pm and they close at midnight. The place is large and had about 10 patrons. The staff was winding down and ready to close. I asked for the food menu and was told the kitchen was closed. (Understandable) However, I asked for a beer an the lady in the traditional German attire looked as if she had been hit by a ton of bricks. She stutters and said y-y-yes and looks down in disappointment. Now this may be just me but I was the only customer with melanin and the whole experience was reminiscent plain old racism. I do hope I'm wrong. However, that's just how I felt. Note; she was all smiles with co-workers and other customers. Can't help but wonder. Amazzzinnngg Bavarian food. Perfect dinner spot for our first trip to Munich. Started with the Bavarian potato soup which was absolutely heavenly on a cold winter night. Ordered the München Schnitzel as my main meal and it was wonderful. Had the flavor of horseradish but wasn't spicy. I split it with a friend and it was the perfect amount of food for the two of us.
