Bomb food, cute place, great find People were worried in other reviews about it being sketchy or ghetto. Stop with the gentrification of CR and just eat at places. Stop taking yourself so seriously and support ALL local businesses.

All hail to the "hole-in-the-wall" family owned restaurants that do it Right! I called ahead for my lunch order that was hot and ready in minutes. Great if you're short on time. The menu offers American fare as well.

Pardon my gyro breath, I just finished another great gyro combo with everything. Since I've been on a quest lately for the the best gyrating meat sandwich, I needed to get another fix...and I'm glad I did. Gyro Hut easily wins the "Best Value" value award in the Corridor area. They really pack their soft pitas with long, thick juicy strips of Gyro meat and the perfect balance of onion, tomato, very little lettuce, tzatziki sauce and upon request hot peppers (bonus!). Still just $5.99 for the combo which includes fries and a can of pop. The fries are the ordinary frozen kind (The Flying Wienie is still the fresh cut fries champion). It's the generous and yummy gyro that makes this the best value. They use Kronos brand gyro meat cooked on a spit or "cone". Better hold on to your wienies Cedar Rapids because Gryro Hut now has a Chicago style Polish sausage - just $3.99 for the combo meal! (See pic). I gotta try that on my next visit. What gets Gyro Hut the coveted 5th star is the local owner seems to really support the neighborhood. Much of their clientele is walk-in traffic from the surrounding area. He seems to genuinely care about his customers and is a positive influence in this inner city area. If they weren't here, the building could easily be a payday loan place or tobacco/liquor store.

Amazing food every time! The environment isn't sketchy to me, I just sit in my car to wait for my food. The young man working even brought my food out to my car! I usually get the gyro or fish, but everything is good, hot, and fast. They even deliver through a delivery service, just ask about it! I think they should open another location in the heart of everything. This hidden jewel is off the beaten path, but well worth it!!

Website says " We Now Deliver"....called them to place an order and they "aren't doing deliveries right now."

Best gyros in town! Don't be discouraged by the rough exterior, this place is worth the stop!

My husband and I arrived a bit early- parking is really tough on a Friday night in downtown Galena but we scored a spot a block away quickly. So, we headed to the bar to enjoy a pre-dinner drink. $10 Pinot Grigio and Petosi $6.00 on tap- I enjoyed the piano player for a bit! Very talented! Once our party all arrived, we will seated in one of the dining rooms. We started with sharing saganaki, because this is what you do here. Most everyone ordered the filet, but I wanted the salmon and husband had the Greek chicken. The entrees come with a starch and soup or salad so we chose the cream of broccoli and a baked potato. Everything was very tasty and service was excellent as they work on a team - so there was always someone promptly picking up dishes etc. The meal ran about $75 pp as we averaged it out

Service is always personable, we've never had a bad wait-staffer. Although the restaurant is generally very busy , you are able to hold table conversations without a lot of extraneous noise. Meals are abundant- always have leftovers. Steaks come in various cuts and are delicious. If you are looking for a smaller meal, they have those too, we just go for the steaks!

The portions were TOO BIG! OMG, I barely made it through a third of my meal before I had to give up and put the rest aside for left-overs to eat later. And then, my next problem is the food itself. Tasty, delicious, perfectly prepared, and so good that just SMELLING the aromas on my drive home caused me to gain five pounds. My final complaint? I ordered two gyros, one for me and one for my better half, and nothing else. When I got home, we dug in, only to discover that they had tossed in a free order of (mouthwateringly delectable!!!) french fries. Okay, so kidding aside, the food and the service are wonderful. At $9 each, the price seems a bit high to me, but then again, everything seems expensive to me these days. A quick web-check shows me that nine bucks is about average for the area, and speaking from experience, these Gyros seem above average in quality for the area. My only other (real) complaint? The hours. With labor/wages being what they are these days, I can understand the short hours, but that doesn't mean that I LIKE them. If you want to taste a little bit of culinary heaven, keep your eye on the calendar and the clock. Gyro Hicks is open from 11AM to 1:30PM, and only open on Weds, Thurs, Fri, and Sat. Even so, it is DEFINITELY WORTH IT.
