My girlfriend and I should have questioned our choice when we pulled in the parking lot and it was empty. But we decided to give it a try and ordered the chicken alfredo and tortellini. When the food came out, the chicken tasted extremely rubbery like it was recooked in a microwave and the alfredo sauce had no flavor. My girlfriends tortellini was refrigerator cold in the middle with her sauce being watered down. When we said something to the young manager, she attempted to remake the tortellini but only to recieve the same results. Cold in the middle and watered down sauce. This place does not serve fresh food, it felt and tasted like yesterday's leftovers! Even the so called garlic bread was no better than buttered toast with a sprinkle of garlic powder. So with our full plates of food on the table, we left on our way out we spoke to the young manager. We told her how horrible the food was and how dissatisfied we were with their establishment. We just recieved a reply of, we're sorry and have a better evening. We will definitely not be returning to this establishment!! DO NOT eat here, it is a complete waste of your money and time!! We ordered online carry-out from Zio Johno's the Sunday evening of Memorial Day weekend. We hadn't patronized Zio Johno's in quite some time, and not since they've moved to this location on Edgewood (formerly Fazoli's). We really didn't know what to expect. We were supposed to find out that they offer far more than just buckets of pasta. Boy did Zio's deliver! We all enjoyed our meals: chicken fettuccini Alfredo, cheese ravioli and two different calzones. My calzone was the best I've eaten in a long, long time. Seriously. The soft, slightly sweet crust was delicious. I ordered a 10" veggie calzone and ate the entire thing (no shame here). They have 12" and 14", but plan to share those with someone, or have enough for leftovers. I didn't pickup the order, but my family who did said the restaurant was very clean and the staff were all friendly. This wasn't a cheap meal, $65 for 4 adults, but worth the $. Well once again I'm hanging out with my girlfriend at home on a Saturday night. Neither Peggy or myself feels like cooking. What to do? Zio Johno's. Will try that. So I pick up the phone and place an order for a medium pizza With an estimated ETA of 60 minutes. The pizza showed up in 45 minutes not 60. Perfect. So I'm a little embarrassed to say this but we ate the whole thing. Should I old ordered the larger size. Woopsie. Maybe next time. The pizza was great we had an extra Olive my wife was happy. We are doing this again the driver was great. If you're in this neck of the woods Zio Johno is definitely on they will do a gun list. Kudos to the staff they did a great job. No pictures. I want to start out my saying the food is OK... The customer service though... The girl who took my order was extremally bored, she acted like she hated her job and did not look me in the eyes once. She seemed like she was rushing me so she could go home faster. I've also heard horrible things about the manager of the store, openly racist and homophobic and very opinionated. The building its self is in horrible condition. The mens bathroom is dirty and to make it even better, multiple n@zi symbols etched on the walls... The dining room had nasty ceiling tiles and looked like mold was growing on the soda machines. The building would be closed immediately if any health inspector walked in. read more

We had a function T our church yesterday and I ordered food for 30. The people very very friendly and took care of my order right away. The owner helped load the food in my car for me. I got a calzone and as I was walking to my table I saw someone's spaghetti and meatballs and regretted not ordering that. Then I ate my calzone and it was one of the best calzones I've ever had. Garlic bread was really good as well; soft, buttery, and a nice garlic flavor. I should've asked for an extra side of marinara for the calzone and marinara for the garlic bread... What passes for an independent Italian restaurant in Cedar Rapids. The garlic bread which so many diners rave about is not very tasty, but it is plentiful. My wife's lasagna was not fresh, which means that it was not heated sufficiently. Service was friendly, but they really need to bus the tables quicker. Some tables sat for over 25 minutes before being cleared. We dine here about once a year and that is enough. read more

I was in town and I was craving Italian food. I like to compare Italian food from the different places I visit. Italian food, Mexican Food, and Sushi are always a must. I ordered my food 25 minutes ahead before heading out and despite being told it would be ready in 15 minutes it was not ready. I had to wait an additional 15 minutes. The location is nice and today. There is plenty of tables and chairs. The employees are welcoming. As for the food, it was good. It was filling. I ordered the beef lasagna and tiramisu. Wanted zio, the lady that took the order was very nice. We got drinks and sat down and the food was at the table. One order was chicken fettuccine and it was chunky and the chicken tasted off, we also had tortellini it was barely warm, we also had an appetizer and it was still white which ment it wasnt fully cook. The garlic bread was fully cook and was good. I let the girl know and they said they needed to wait for the manger so i went back and sat down. He came to the table ask what was wrong took the dishes and left and didn't say anything else till he came back with our money. I asked him if he was remaking the food and his answer was no you will never be happy and thats how the food is. We picked our things up and left and the customer that was at the counter asked what happened and i said he returned our money and said he cant make us happy. first time I had zio Johno's it sucked, so I didn't return for awhile, went back it was alright asked for speghetti and meatballs, didn't get the meatballs, but it was way better than my first experience. I return again, get a chicken Alfred and speghetti, I split the chicken Alfredo up between the oldest and the baby, the oldest was eating it and spit it out, she pulled a wire bristle from the chicken. had that been the baby, she wouldn't have known to spit it out. to compensate my 12$ meal they gave me 10$ In coupons I won't ever use.. read more

Seriously, how can you NOT love Zio's? I've been getting spaghetti and garlic bread here for at least 35 years. If getting a half gallon, I do suggest adding an 8 ounce meat sauce on the side. My kids love the giant meat balls and my husband would eat the gondola sandwich every day if I let him. I also like the lasagna and ravioli, but the spaghetti is so good I usually stick with that. The ranch dressing is really great and I often buy a container to take home. I try to remember and ask for extra croutons on my salad as they make them themselves. We often get the tiramisu and cheesecake for dessert, they are large servings and we share them. read more

This is some of the blandest food I have ever tasted. I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo last night and I am still trying to figure out HOW this sauce could be so bland. There wasn't a hint of garlic or even salt in this sauce. What was it even made of? IDK! The bread that comes with the meal is sweet, instead of savory/garlicky which I didn't care for, either. I have tried Zio Johno's usually once every couple of years. I have never really cared for it but end up there with friends or family every now and then. They have expanded most of their stores, dressed them up and now are full-service restaurants that can compete with the likes of Olive Garden. They don't have the great salad like Olive Garden or as varied menu offerings, but you do get very decent food at GREAT prices. They still sell take-out (and delivery) buckets of spaghetti, but now offer several baked pasta items, pizza and sandwiches. My favorite is the Italian meatball sandwich. It has four HUGE meatballs, pasta sauce and big slice of mozzarella oven-baked on Zio's famous homemade bread all for $4.99. The bread has a sweet flavor that everyone seems to love. I'm still a bigger fan of the Marion Zios but this one is good too. The lunch specials are great and include a lot of food for under $6 plus tax. You also get soda with lunch. It's hard to leave Zios hungry during lunch and especially hard to leave hungry from dinner. Great place for vegetarians too as almost any meal can be made to cater to any want. The atmosphere is very nice and quiet and I love the drawings on the table at both locations. All around it was a great experience at Zio Johnos once again. read more

Fried ravioli was good, cheese manicotti was alright, tiramisu was ok, could have had a more coffee flavor, husband enjoyed his gyro and side salad. read more

Laughable.... Ordered the tortellini, garlic bread, gondola and soda for delivery. Afer waiting 1 hr 30 min for my food I called. The lady on the other end offered me $10 off. I said that was unexceptionable. She ended up giving me the meal for free. Garlic Bread was cold and soagy and they brought us two day old ravioli instead of the tortellini we ordered. Went there for a Marion Music Booster night. That they support the schools is a big plus. It didn't hurt that the food was amazing. I got the shrimp fettuccine alfredo and couldn't finish it due to the portion size. It was so good. Ordered delivery, took half an hour longer than they said but whatever. No big deal. Food got here... one meal was wrong, was paying in cash but they asked me to sign because they put our order on someone else's card. Asked me to sign anyway and they would fix it later. Called the store to let them know the mix up so the driver didnt get in trouble and to get a refund because our food was also COLD. Bread was stale. Told us they could give us gift certificates but really all in all wasn't their problem. I've worked in customer service for 10 years and I know kitchen mistakes are not the driver/establishments fault but the customer service was horrible! Will not be ordering again. I eat there often. They have great lunches at reasonable prices. Their garlic bread is "the best". They have a "Z" burger and fries for about $6. Includes free refill soda's. My wife and I share it. :o) I've never had less than great food and great service. The building is a converted bank. They did a good job. They created a nice "Villa" atmosphere. I take my grand kids there and have always considered it family friendly. I believe anyone that enjoys Italian foods would enjoy Zio Johno's read more

Calamari that was black and stank like old fish, frozen ravioli that was cold, fettucine alfredo with an odd cinnamon taste, overcooked, mushy pasta and meatballs with no flavor.
