Went to Monica's for the first time and it was a delightful, fine dining experience. The dining area looks very posh and the ambient music really added to the experience. I dined on the chicken and spinach ravioli in a white Alfredo and red pasta sauce. It was divine. They also offer free bread with your choice of peppered oil or maple butter. The staff were amazing and very accommodating. 10/10, will return

As a gluten-free person, I love the breath of options here. Monica's offers savory, homestyle meals, which is something hard to find with food restrictions. As a bonus, they have gluten-free bread as part of the bread service with cinnamon butter. This is one of our favorite spots to visit before a Hawkeyes basketball game. There's plenty of room for lots of patrons, and the food comes our fast. And the portions are enough for leftovers.

I've recently had to do gluten free while figuring stuff out with my health. This place popped up with a gluten free menu... boy was it a menu! It was huge with so many options! The staff was so kind and helpful. We got the food to go and while we waited they gave the kids coloring pages. 10/10!

Not sure why it took me so long to get into this place. Once we went a couple times though, it is not hard to fall in love. It's easy to enjoy a reliably good meal at Monica's. We like to take out-of-town guests here for an expansive menu so that everyone can find something they like- they even feature a gluten free menu. Sometimes large menus are a red flag, but so far no one we've brought has been dissatisfied. Our favorites: -big salads -surprisingly good burger -bruschetta We feel lucky we got to see Randy in his last weeks, picking up trash, greeting customers and weeding the planters outside. It seems his spirit will live on at Monica's with great service and kindness to greet you each time.

Monica's has a very casual vibe with lots of patio seating. I went here on my first night in Coralville and found it be to be the perfect place for some nice (but slightly elevated) comfort food. The food is a bit pricy, but they say that they try and keep the prices as low as they can without sacrificing quality. The menu was quite large. I ordered the Mac n Cheese. It was delicious with a breadcrumb top. I would absolutely order this dish again. The service was quick and our waitress was nice but nothing out of the ordinary.

I liked the family diner feel, but the food was incredibly underwhelming, especially for the price. Whether it was the chicken fettuccine alfredo I ordered, the burrata mac my husband ordered, or the baked ziti my friend ordered, everything was the same unappetizing color and rather bland. The chicken that came with my dish tasted like precooked, prepackaged chicken strips. I ate around most of it, but that also just left the noodles with alfredo lacking something. The baked brie we ordered was tasty with the apples, but it was a little under done. It could have been gooier on the inside and the bottom pastry appeared slightly raw. The saving grace was the dessert menu. Without it, I would have gone as low as two stars. We tried the Amish pie, white chocolate bread pudding, and creme brule. The Amish pie was deeeeeelicious and the creme brule had a crisp, caramelized top to it that really makes the dish shine. As a group, we determined that the only time we will go back is when we are craving a dessert outing. I'm still glad it is part of the community, as it looks as though this place is a hit to many and is very involved in the area.

It was a lot of wine but a good deal! The only thing that was difficult is their printed wine menu is different from what they had available. The waitress was nice so she got some recommendations from the bartender and we were able to choose wine that way. The pizza was great, some of the best we have had in Coralville. Their pasta tasted fresh and homemade, I am not sure if it is but that was the vibe we got. The broccolini was hot!! Not in a straight out of the oven way, but in an it carries some heat way. We thought maybe there was chili oil on it? But even though we weren't expecting the heat, they were super good. The only downside to the meal was the crème brûlée, it bothers me when the top isn't crispy. Normally, you use the spoon to kind of break the sugar glass on top (i think it's sugar?) and I was sad when the sugar on top was missing from half of it. I think to make it you use a blowtorch to melt the sugar on top (?) idk how it works, but whatever that step is I think it was missed. Other than that great food and drinks!

Service at Maggie's was excellent--our server Harry really made the experience. We ordered two drinks: the Lemon Lavender Italian Soda (refreshing and tasty) and the Hugo Spritz. The Hugo Spritz initially just tasted like tonic water, but we let our server know and Harry kindly brought us a replacement that was much better. For food, we tried the Margherita pizza and the Ellie (caramelized onion, blue cheese, and onion). Both were decent. Seems like fresh ingredients! I am personally not a fan of blue cheese usually, but I did enjoy it. Service was super efficient--felt a little rushed but they are typically very busy on a Friday night. Dessert was a nice finish: the raspberry ice cream tasted like real raspberries, and the shortbread was decent. Only downside? Lots of flies--we found ourselves swatting them away throughout the meal. Overall, a good experience and we will be back!

The portions were TOO BIG! OMG, I barely made it through a third of my meal before I had to give up and put the rest aside for left-overs to eat later. And then, my next problem is the food itself. Tasty, delicious, perfectly prepared, and so good that just SMELLING the aromas on my drive home caused me to gain five pounds. My final complaint? I ordered two gyros, one for me and one for my better half, and nothing else. When I got home, we dug in, only to discover that they had tossed in a free order of (mouthwateringly delectable!!!) french fries. Okay, so kidding aside, the food and the service are wonderful. At $9 each, the price seems a bit high to me, but then again, everything seems expensive to me these days. A quick web-check shows me that nine bucks is about average for the area, and speaking from experience, these Gyros seem above average in quality for the area. My only other (real) complaint? The hours. With labor/wages being what they are these days, I can understand the short hours, but that doesn't mean that I LIKE them. If you want to taste a little bit of culinary heaven, keep your eye on the calendar and the clock. Gyro Hicks is open from 11AM to 1:30PM, and only open on Weds, Thurs, Fri, and Sat. Even so, it is DEFINITELY WORTH IT.
