I'm honestly very shocked by how much I liked the curry. I opted for the vegetarian option, called roasted veggie kare, which included onions, carrots, celery, and zucchini. A typical Japanese curry features potatoes and carrots, but there were no potatoes at all. In its place was a surplus of onions. It was too much to the point where I had to throw it away. The food came out hot and fresh and the ratio of curry to rice wasn't bad. I liked that it came with a dollop of potato salad and pickled veggies to cut the strong flavor of the curry. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Guzzu Bento-ya is the definition of a hidden gem because it looks so unassuming from the outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] A big bonus is that there's a parking lot available right in front. It's an order-first and find-your-seat-after type of place. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We came as a group of 5 and there was a large, beautiful table in the center that was able to seat all of us with room to spare.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are also several other smaller tables along the wall, so plenty of dining space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]
Not sure how this place does not have more customers! It should be blowing up on tiktok and the foodie spot lists. I've lived throughout LA the last 10 years and today was the first time stopping by. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only people who seem to frequent this place are workers nearby on lunchtime or company catering or doordash deliveries.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You should come and eat here! Amazing quality and affordable bento with different protein selections. It's actually probably the best I've had in LA. You have all these mediocre spots in places with high foot traffic like Little Tokyo and Grand Central Market serving up mediocre Japanese food and then there's places like this with barely any customers. It's a shame!

The food is delicious and beautifully prepared. Guzzu Bento-ya is hidden amongst the warehouses of the Arts District. They are only open for lunch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's a nice dining area inside but I took the bento boxes to go.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The next time I order I think I'll bring the bento boxes to a spring picnic at LA State Historic Park. The staff pack the bento boxes neatly with everything you need for a picnic (utensils and napkins). Each bite was flavorful and fresh - exquisitely seasoned. I loved all the veggies and the potato salad that came with the premium bento box. I want to try the Spicy Karaage next time.

I ordered this via delivery, so this review will be based on that instead of eating at the location, and I am honestly blown away. Even though I didn't eat at the actual shop, the delivery presentation was really well done. I ordered the premium chicken bento, and the presentation was impressive. It comes in a two-tier setup where the chicken and rice are in one section and all the veggies and sides are in another. It felt very high-end for a delivery meal. The chicken was incredibly juicy and flavorful. I really appreciated the sauce they used because it wasn't that overly sweet, generic teriyaki stuff you find at most places. It had a great balance, smoky flavor, and worked so well with the rice and chicken. The sides were just as good as the main course. The veggies were super crisp and fresh. I loved the potato salad and the pickled cabbage, but the standout for me was the savory, soy-infused potatoes. This is easily one of the best delivery meals I've had in the last 30 days. I highly recommend giving them a try. I'm definitely going to be ordering from here again soon to have my whole office try it out because this place is too good.
Finally tried guzzu bento-ya after having it on my list for years and really enjoyed it! I tried the wild salmon premium bento box and was pleasantly surprised at all the things it came with! Super easy to order ahead online and food was ready when I arrived to pick up the next day. There's a few parking spots in front of the restaurant. Everything was well packed and such a delight to eat! I'll definitely return for the bento boxes!

And so happy we chose here...Such a solid bento with amazing sides. My sister got the mackerel and I got the chicken premium. She loved it! Great char, deboned (mostly? She found 1 bone haha), she loved the potato salad. My chicken was charred, juicy and quite a lot! I loveeee the sides: carrots, pickled cabbages, potato salad, tofu, sweet potato, broccoli. Honestly I really couldn't fault any of them and loved them all. Tofu was so saturated with flavor, the cabbages and carrots were good to eat with the chicken as it brought some acid, and the sweet potato (my fav) I saved for the end as a dessert! I've read some reviews that said it's a bit pricey but honestly, with the prices these days, theirs is just right for the quality they give [[HIGHLIGHT]]ALSO the aesthetic! Umm what a gem! This place is a little isolated around the arts district? and I couldn't have been more happy to have tried it. My friend and I decided to get lunch after our morning lagree at Lagree213 and I'm so glad she recommended this place! I got the Salmon premium bento and wow the flavors were soo good. I loved every little side dish that came on in the second tier, especially the caramelized sweet potato. As someone who eats a lot of Japanese food, I can say the flavors here really stand out, everything tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and the pork curry was rich, flavorful. The matcha latte needs more sweetener. Ordered the Grilled Chicken Bento via UberEats and it took an hour which was understandable since I ordered it at 11:30am. The Grilled Chicken Bento ($21 on Uber Eats & $17 at restaurant) came very neatly prepared in two boxes stacked on top of each other. One box contained rice and grilled chicken and the other box contained a small side of potato salad, pickled purple cabbage, roasted sweet potatoes, crispy lotus roots, broccoli, sliced carrots and cobo, and fried tofu curd. The grilled chicken wasn't as delicious as I was expecting unfortunately. The top of the chicken was slightly too burnt and the inside wasn't as juicy and tender as I was hoping. It was quite dry and disappointing. This was 6/10. The sides were wonderful. The veggies were very fresh and delicious. I especially loved the potato salad and wished it came with more! The crispy lotus root was very good too but it just came with one slice! The roasted sweet potatoes was very sweet and yummy! The sides were 9/10 I'll definitely get the Norwegian Mackerel Plate again and possibly try the Salmon Plate but won't get the Grilled Chicken Plate again unfortunately. Still really enjoy this restaurant but I'd recommend skipping the Grilled Chicken Plate!

[Menu]: The shop offers Tier 1 Bento (aonori furikake-topped rice, pickled purple cabbage, Tokyo diner potato salad, carrot kinpira, and your choice of protein) and Tier 2 Premium Bento (Tier 1 plus miso-cured egg yolk, fukujinzuke, daigaku imo aka sweet potato, tare-glazed lotus root, broccoli namul, braised fried miso tofu, and grilled zucchini shaped like a leaf). Yelp's top two highlighted protein options are Chicken Karaage and Grilled Chicken. The shop also sells salads and sandos. *** Wild Salmon (Grilled Faroe Island Salmon fillet marinated with local honey Saikyo miso - Tier 2. $26): Other than the fried miso tofu tasted a bit salty, overall it was a well-rounded bento box. Super worth it for 20 dollars for the 2 tier bento. I love the fresh ingredients they use and their well packaged lunches. They also have good parking since it's not a busy area hidden in the fashion/arts district. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's more of a pick up spot but there's actually seating inside as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I also noticed that the prices when ordering online are 2-3 dollars more expensive so I recommend actually going in and ordering it there since it's cheaper. I got their spicy karage 2 tier lunch box and absolutely devoured it. It can definitely be a meal that can be split because there's a ton of rice and I was so full after. A side dish I want to high light is their potato egg salad which I really enjoyed and their miso cured egg yolk that paired well with the rice. All their marinated and picked veggies paired really well with the rice. The purple picked veggies were very spicy though. The karage was spicy and crispy. I will say that it was just a little overdone for my liking since there was a bitter taste but that could have been coming from the seasoning so I think next time I'll just get the soy glaze instead. I am so glad to find this hidden gem in DTLA and with plenty of parking.. what??? It is in the industrial side so don't get discouraged if you think your GPS is taking you elsewhere. Look sketchy from the outside but when you step in, you felt like you were in a Japanese comfy cafe. Limited seating but we got there on a Saturday afternoon and had no problem. They specialized in two tier bento boxes and they did not disappoint. The food was tasty and good portion. Loved the sides. Definitely got our money worth. read more

Delicious bento lunch boxes! My family came by for a little Tokyo adventure and saw this spot online for some amazing bento boxes and decided to take a short drive down Alameda to check it out. Guzzu Bento-ya has some incredible artwork on its walls but also in the surrounding neighborhood. The menu is short and sweet, I got the grilled chicken bento (amaaaaazing) and the BBQ smoky flavor hit the spot. My husband got the chicken sando on milk bread (he loved it, and it was juicy, well sauced, and flavorful. Our daughter ordered the katsu curry, delicious as well, great mild curry flavor. Overall the place is a trendy, easy lunch spot with reeeeeally great food. I'll be back again when we are in the area and recommend it to friends/family. read more
I came here on a friend's recommendation, otherwise I probably would've never found this spot since it's kind of in the middle of nowhere. The interior is really well decorated, and I could definitely see myself coming back for a study session. I tried the tier 2 shio koji marinated mackerel, and it was pretty good. The fish was tender and nicely seasoned, though next time I'd probably just go with the tier 1 version since the side dishes tasted just okay. They were beautifully presented though. They were also running a promotion to leave a 5 star review on Yelp or Google Maps and my friend ended up winning a shirt from that. I wanted to come here for a long time but I never got a chance since they closed at 3 PM. My friend and I were visiting another friend so I decided that we will pick up food here. I thought it worked out greatly. Guzzu Bento-ya is located in more of the industrial area so trust your gps. There are a couple of parking spaces right outside the restaurant. The restaurant looks super clean and nice inside. There is even a dining room which would make a perfect lunch meeting spot. Now to their great bento boxes. I love their bento boxes and if this place was closer I would definitely get one weekly. I ended up getting the tonkatsu and I love that it came on a beautifully cooked rice. The bento boxes do come in two boxes. The second box comes with all these tiny sides. I love all the sides. Everything combine together was good and I think the price is great. A casual Japanese restaurant that specializes in premium two-tiered bentos. With the only option for cashless payments and quick service, this is reminiscent of the culture in which you can take a quick break and enjoy food. Exterior: There is some street parking and parking spaces in front of the establishment. Though the outside leaves little impressions, you can expect much more from the inside and the food. Interior: Soft lofi-music tends to play in the background with anime playing (e.g., Haikyuu). It's good to be home! I'd come every Friday to have lunch when I worked by, now I'm back on the area and I'm so happy yall still here. I'm so happy they still have the quiet and relaxing vibe going on in the dining area! And the food is still super yummy with new sides which is pretty cool! Came here as a pit-stop leaving LA. We were craving bentos and people loved the construction of them so we decided to stop by. There was no line at all and the location is extremely secluded. The inside betrays the exterior completely- it's beautiful inside, like a bar. I loved the decor, it really is a huge step up from any other bento place I'd been to before. I ordered the recommended bento. Their chicken was pretty incredible. Very juicy and flavorful, and portion size was decent. The little vegetables and side dishes they had all had specific pieces which really had unique flavors (I am not totally sure which are what veggies). The egg was my favorite part of the bento, it's really well made and reminds me of onsen eggs from Japan. My opinion is that this is the best bento place that I've been to, and would definitely go again. read more

At first I was skeptical since I found this place through an Instagram reel, but I'm really glad I gave it a try. I ordered the wild salmon bento and the pork katsu sando. The salmon bento is the priciest of the bentos, but it's absolutely worth it. I usually prefer my salmon raw, but this one completely changed my mind. The salmon was incredibly moist and soft. The miso-cured egg yolk was rich and flavorful, and the kinpira gobo & carrots paired really well with the salmon and rice. Even the broccoli was surprisingly good, well-cooked and slightly sweet, which says a lot since I'm usually not a broccoli fan. I also loved the daigaku imo (sweet potato). I'm not used to eating it with the skin on, but the combination of the skin and the caramelized sugar made it extra crunchy. I'd honestly love to know how they make it. read more

I asked for recommendations and got what the owner liked. I got the Glazed Scottish Salmon and a matcha drink. The food was incredibly tasty and definitely worth the price.
