Agreed on all points about the reception. Could be more cordial, could be less demanding. I was nervous before getting my 4 wisdom teeth extracted and didn't write on the forms very legibly. I told her, "I apologize, my handwriting is a little..." as I paused, she proceeded to tell me "Illegible?", grabbed the form from my hand and turned around without even a glance to file it somewhere. I swear I about lost my shit right then and there but I held out and everything was fine after that. Gutmann himself is awesome. Very down to earth old guy that wore pink all stars. I thought that was a great touch. My mouth hurts, and I can't vouch for the quality of work because it's not every day I get teeth extracted.. Seems ok though. Weirdly, I did have a cut in my lip when I got home, seemingly from my jaw collapsing at some point during the surgery and my tooth seemed to have impacted my lower lip. Can't say for sure what happened as I was out cold, but it healed fine. I'm guessing my bite plate was removed incorrectly and my jaw just clamped shut on my lip.. Possible nurse inexperience? Dunno.. Equipment is up to date and the place is a little run down looking, but you know.. There are worse places and I'm sure he needs to pay the rent, too. Expensive? Eh, dunno. How much mouth surgery are you really gonna have in life? I'll pay a little more for an eccentric Doctor, they always seem a little OCD which in this case may be a good thing. This doctor is old school, he traumatized my lingual nerve during my wisdom tooth extraction and I lost the feeling of the right side of my tongue, I got some feeling back but not all. Save your time and money go to some other doctor. read more

Very helpful and informative. Honest and the Dr will tell you funny things to lighten the mood. Only downside for me is they don't take Amex. The Dr called me that night to make sure I was doing ok! I was and recovered much quicker than expected. The only loss of the star was for no Amex and the front receptionist is a little short at first but she was nice when I left. read more

When it comes to Dentists and Orthondontists - major anxiety, depression and outright fear shivers me timbers! As many, I have had my share of dental quacks and bad experiences in my life to feel that way. And, if anything whatsoever reviewed can be more subjective than a visit to one of these professionals, I haven't found it yet! This is a double whammy review, as my wife had procedures with him first, then I. I rate Dr. Gutmann 3 Stars as A-OK because although my wife didn't have such a good experience - I did. As far as treatment and procedure, he appears to be very well experienced, and his bedside manner (as a Fellow Brooklynite) really, really good and can be funny. Although his facility is relatively small, his staff, equipment and system is up-to-date, accommodating, clean and agreeable - nothing to put you off! Although his waiting room could use a little more space! Keep in mind that not everyone's mouth, procedural needs and/or health is the same, and opinions of reviewers sometimes get the better of us when we suffer pain and anxiety at the hands of 'professionals'... just remember - no doctor is going to completely cure what you caused, and one will suffer with any doctor the discomforts necessary to make up for it. In my book, he's good enough to go back to, and I will. Yet, nothing will stop my anxiety, depression and fear anytime I visit - but I'm sure he'll reassure us. read more

This 1 star review is not for Dr. Gutmann himself -- he actually is pretty awesome (very informative and friendly). I'm writing this because I was turned off by his staff. The lady at the front desk was very impatient, easily frustrated, and rude. I speculate that she is business minded and wants to run the office efficiently, but in doing so, she's compromised the customer service aspect of her job. Maybe it was the case of the Mondays, but I just didn't appreciate the way she talked to me. To be more specific, she felt I was taking too long to fill out the forms and when I hesitated to give them to her, she stuck her arm out her window and tried to rush me. She then proceeded to roll her eyes and said, "If I have to wait any longer, we might have to reschedule" and then walked away. Ugh, are you serious?? read more

It would have gotten 5 stars if the Receptionist wasn't a complete B. She is very rude and impatient even when I showed up 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork! She got an attitude and said "You are really early so you're going to have to wait I hope you know that." As if I am stupid enough to NOT know that. I told her I came in early to do paperwork (thinking they usually appreciate that and request that at most places anyway but SHE didn't however if i showed up ON TIME she probably would have given me an attitude for being a couple minutes behind on the appointment because I'm filling out paperwork!) She gave me the forms and was incredibly uniformed about my insurance and had a problem looking up the benefits for me (which is her JOB) and even then I ended up leaving not knowing what the final cost would be to me even though they are in my network of providers and I verified that before making the appointment. Of course when I get the bill not only is it incredibly vague and the numbers do NOT match up at all to what my payment was (no clue how they got their figure) but I was surprised after paying a good portion of it up-front, that I had a few hundred more to pay out of pocket! UNBELIEVABLE! I loved the doctor though. He was really nice, really funny, thorough and took his time to explain everything to me in detail. He was quick and gentle in surgery and I'd love to go see him again for my other needs but the receptionist makes me feel so uncomfortable that I DREAD going there and seeing her for even a second. I went a second time thinking maybe she had an off day (even though I was one of the first 3 patients of the day) but no, she was still pretty nasty. I think the front desk woman, Aileen, must have improved. I was a bit shocked to see the reviews. Anyway, my wife just had her 4 wisdom teeth taken out at this dentist's office. I'll first start out by saying that as an immigrant, she repeatedly gets scammed (but now knows enough) by dentists. I've left reviews on the other 2 that tried it (avoid them) and it's generally been an awful experience. Aileen made it smooth for us. While my wife was abroad visiting family, Aileen was trying to call her to reschedule an appointment and couldn't get in touch (for obvious reasons). Aileen then wrote a hand-written letter to my wife to our address with her business card and number. I called her and we rescheduled, simple as that. I told my wife "this is how it was done growing up", but apparently others had different experiences. I loved Aileen though, maybe also just because she was the first not to try and scam us. As for the dentist, my wife said he was fantastic. He made jokes, the removal of her 4 wisdom teeth was very quick, and best of all--it was very cheap at $120 (the other dentist quoted her at $743--avoid). She only used local anesthesia, which clearly was applied well as she didn't feel a thing. Just a moment ago, he called her up to see how she was doing and he was so nice about it. It made me think of my small town dentist who was so personable and friendly, cracking jokes and telling her that she was tough and whatnot. Seems like a great, classic type of dentist. I would definitely recommend this practice-I dealt with Aileen and she was great to us, and Dr. Gutmann was a great dentist to my wife. read more

Dr Gutmann is awesome - very personable, patient, funny, and easy to talk to. This was extremely important to me in an oral surgeon because I was super nervous about having all 4 wisdom teeth removed. The entire procedure was over before I knew it, the nurse was helpful and made sure I understood the post-care instructions, and Dr. Gutmann called me personally later that night to check on me. As a doctor, he's A+ However, his receptionist/front office support (Eilleen) is a certified B*TCH! She's rude on the phone AND even worse in person, impatient, short-tempered, and demanding. Don't ask her any questions about your procedure, insurance coverage, or medical billing because she'll talk to you like you're an idiot. I will NEVER return to this office again simply because of her. read more

I went to this doctor for my wisdom extraction, he extracted my wisdom tooth but since after that my tongue is numb , he damaged my lingual nerve. I don't recommend to any one , spend little more money go to some other experinced doctor. I believe i made big mistake choosing this doctor. read more

Dr. Gutmann removed my wisdom teeth. The procedure itself went ok, but afterward one of my tooth hole wounds didn't heal and an inflammatory bump popped up near it. I waited about a month for it to heal and then went in to have it checked out. Dr. Gutmann looked at it briefly and assumed it was an infection from not keeping it clean. I had been diligent about cleaning it and it didn't look or feel like an infection to me. He prescribed me antibiotics. A month later, it still hadn't healed and stitches emerged from the tooth hole wound, which were supposed to have been removed after the procedure. Apparently Dr. Gutmann had missed one. I went into the office immediately. Removing the stitches after they had been in far longer than they were supposed to was painful because the skin had grown onto them. In addition, Dr. Gutmann said the inflammatory bump that resulted from them may never go away. He and his office staff were rude and Dr. Gutmann patronizingly acted like it was my fault for not coming in sooner. (He failed to remember that I had come in sooner.) To add fuel to the fire that had become this series of failures, when I received the explanation of benefits from my insurance provider, I realized Dr. Gutmann had overcharged me. When I brought this up to his office staff, they said he will send me a refund for the amount that was overcharged, but he has yet to do so. I hesitated to write this review because he was recommended by my dentist and because nothing was wrong with the procedure itself. I can even understand mistakenly missing a suture. However, he and his office staff were unapologetically rude to me, even when it came out that he had been negligent in removing the stitches and was financially frauding patients. read more

Dr will be nice with you in the beginning. Then when he gets your money he won't bother to address your issues. After 4 extractions he damaged my lingual nerves. The guy should retire. His receptionist Arlene is rude and clearly treats white folk better than the rest. She doesn't have the least bit of compassion. After surgery, you expect healthcare professionals to treat you with decency and compassion. Not the case with Arlene. And the doctor is the same way. Don't go here. I went to Dr. Gutmann's office to get my wisdom teeth out. Even though I was a little nervous, Dr. Gutmann made me feel at ease. He is very friendly and funny. He was clear about the risks, but managed to calm my fears about them. He also called me the night after my surgery (which I heard he does for all his patients) and checked on how I was doing. This is going above and beyond and for that he definitely deserves five stars. read more

Dr. Guttman was a referral from my regular dentist to remove a broken tooth. He did an excellent job from beginning to end, and his assistant and office staff were terrific! Dr. Guttman has such a positive attitude that I was unable to be nervous for a second. His staff was skilled and professional. Dr. Guttman's follow-up call the evening after I got home was reassuring as well as the follow-up visit seven days later. I would recommend him and defy anyone not to have a good laugh along the way. read more

First, I chose this place only because it was very close to home and it was within my insurance's network. But from the moment I walked in till I fully recovered, it was the BEST medical experience ever. Dr. Gutmann was very friendly, kind, funny and professional, as well as other people who work there. I was very scared to have my 3 wisdom teeth removed, but turned out it was the most fun experience, and I'm serious!!! Everything was super quick and there was no pain or swelling at all even after the anesthesia was gone. I didn't have to take any pain medication. I just really really appreciate it. I should have done it sooner if I knew it was going to be this easy and painless. And it's all thanks to Dr. Gutmann and his staff. They were nice, did a good job of removing the tooth. But have terrible billing practices. Even though you call to ask a price, give your insurance info and are given a price. Call later to make an appt and ask the price again, given the same price. Show up for your appt and are given the same price by the doctor this time not the receptionist. When done, and ready to leave given a price, pay it by check and leave.... They bill you a month later saying this wasn't covered by insurance. When you check with your insurance, they never submitted it and refuse to do so because if they did, they'd have to write it off. Bad business practice and if they'd have told me to begin with the removal of one tooth would be over $500 I would've kept looking. They shouldve told me at the get go what the cost was including what they PURPOSELY didnt bill the insurance company so I would HAVE to pay it. WRONG in all ways. Wont go back. read more
