The saxophone, candles and dim-lights set the tone for the atmosphere. You realize that it's either going to be very romantic or there will be a seance. The light jazz music creates the feeling that you are dining in an elevator, a very nice elevator. The cuisine is fantastic. The serving sizes are deceptive. Well we came here for a birthday dinner and let me tell you these guys are amazing! The service they provide here is impeccable and the food is just as good. I ordered the margarita pizza which came extra cheesy and the grape tomatoes were amazing. The thin crust and pepper were a great touch. We also ordered the seafood pasta which was also amazing The music with the live saxophonist and the candles at the entrance just set the mood for the night. Gustino is a beautiful, romantic restaurant inside the JW Marriott in Cancun. Once you are escorted downstairs into the restaurant you will enter a very intimate, candlelit dining area. It was honestly stunning! The service was wonderful, the food was very good and the pricing was reasonable. We had a bottle of red wine, the Ceasar salad, caprese salad, the seafood pasta and the black cod dish. ALL of our plates were completely cleared. They also give you complementary bread service of your choice (I swear...there are bread options!) and serve amuse-bouche in between plates. It was also nice at the end- our waiter brought me out a red rose. It was very charming and topped off a very romantic evening. The ONLY reason I am not giving 5 stars is due to the service being on the slow side. We were there for almost 3 hours for only 2 of us. That wouldn't prevent us from coming back, but I think it would benefit the restaurant to have more efficient service. Thanks for a great evening! read more

Stayed in the Marriott resort and had very nice meals at the other restaurants. This one was disappointing. Service was outstanding - very attentive, witty waitstaff. They also had an alto sax player who added nice ambiance to the meal. I had a disappointing pasta dish - way too salty. Other plates were a little better, but not comparable to the other restaurants in the resort. Exception being the pear carpaccio, which was wonderful. The biggest issue is my daughter and I both became ill very soon after the meals - we split beef carpaccio (my wife and other daughter didn't touch and did not become ill). This is a beautiful restaurant in the JW Marriott. We have been here previously and weren't very impressed by the food. I think it was because we had pasta dishes which were not impressive. Reading other reviews I realize that pasta isn't really their thing. So my husband and I ordered the veal chop and black cod. Both dishes were excellent. Our appetizers were also wonderful. All in all it was a great experience. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because the service was poor. There were 8 servers hanging around with only 2 tables occupied and we were given butter and oil but after at least 10 min we had to ask for bread. There was an appetizer that was compliments of the chef, which was nice even though I couldn't eat it. The fresh bread was amazing and they served it with olive oil and balsamic. They really know how to make bread. It was probably my favorite thing. I ordered the mushroom cappelleti and a bellini and both were so good. At the end of the meal, the waiter handed the women in the party single red roses which was a beautiful touch. The service was so nice and quick. I was never sitting around waiting and wondering when the appetizers or the entree would come. They also give you a small scoop of sorbet before your entree to cleanse your palette. This place is great! Gustino has fabulous service including waiter, Aaron, who made us laugh and was so polite. The food was delicious and Instagram worthy. We even got free appetizers while we waited for our food! If you have food allergies, don't worry, they will make sure that everything is safe for you to eat! A must try! To begin the meal, the hostess leads you down a curved stairway and past the wind cellar that then opens the candle lit restaurant. The live music sets a very soft mood and is no way over powering. The staff treats you like royalty and is extremely helpful. After your meal, they then give the women in your party a single rose. This was an amazing restaurant to close out our trip to Cancun and celebrate my husbands birthday. Our server, Julio was fantastic as well as his partner Enrique. Everything was perfect. From the decor, to the service to the food. We loved it all. They even gave us a couple of sampler appetizers the chef was trying out as well as lemon sorbet to cleanse our palate.
