THE best decision we made in the 5 days in Cancun. It was 2/14, Valentine's Day and close enough to our anniversary that we selected this restaurant to celebrate both. Wow if I could give this place more than 5 stars I would! The servers went above and beyond, atmosphere and restaurant itself was amazing, and high quality food. I'm very glad my family and I decided to dine in our hotel and enjoy this restaurant. Our server Hector, was extremely helpful and treated us very well. After our appetizers, we had a treat of orange sorbet to "clean our palettes" for the entree. What a simple but genius action of the restaurant! Great midway dinner treat and shows the small details this restaurant gives. Our table was cleared multiple times and the other server helping us put our leftovers in containers which was also very kind. And wow, the restaurant itself is gorgeous. High ceilings, mural on the ceiling, candles in the center, and violin in the background. Beautiful setup to create for a memorable experience. Gustino's specializes not only in Italian food but creating a magical atmosphere of luxury and comfort. Food: To start, you are given warm bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. This bread can also be given to you throughout the rest of your dinner. My family ordered for appetizers their cesar salad, calamari, and burrata. All were very good and tasty. The calamari was a smaller portion than I realized but we had a group of five so it is probably a good amount for two or three people. For entree, I ordered the pizza nera al carbone. This is a black pizza that took me by surprise. I'm very happy I tried this since it was a first but it hardly tasted different from regular dough. I also tried my dad's pizza con prosciutto and this was good too. The pizzas are on the heavier side of cheese and it's not necessarily thin crust so the pieces are very filling. Luckily I was able to bring my leftovers back with me and I'll be enjoying these slices another time. Overall the atmosphere was great to be part of while enjoy great food. The prices are not too be too. While it is a little more pricey, it is balanced through great service and the environment. Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for Italian food. read more

I'm a street-food kinda guy, I can appreciate a AAA Four Diamond restaurant like this one, but it's never been my cup of tea. This being said, service here is outstanding, and food pretty good. I'll spare you the unpronounceable Italian names of the dishes, we tried the seafood pasta and the lamb chops, both excellent. Tiramisu and a goat cheesecake for desert, less convincing, but still good. The coffee (illy) was very good, and served in style with cinnamon and dark chocolate chips on the side. This is the luxe dining venue at the JW. It lives up to the hype. The decor is wonderful. Upscale, romantic and inviting. Live music by a sax player was jest awesome. The food was amazing. Service was prompt. They recognized loyalty status and gave us a small fovor gift at the end. Overall a truly wonderful experience, the flavors were authentic and just right. Value is there. We went here because I spotted a few glowing reviews about food and service. While service is up to par, I wouldn't rave about the food. The additional perk was its location inside the hotel we stayed at. We made a reservation on opentable but I don't think it was necessary during our stay (early november). We pretty much had the entire restaurant to ourselves. Service was a delight of course, from start to finish. The amuse bouche was great! A nifty little cracker flake of sorts to hold a piece of prosciutto and some pesto. We chose to start with the octopus which began to sour things. The filmy chewy layer of skin overwhelmed what otherwise would've been an enjoyable preparation. By the time you get over the slime, the octopus was already chewed through. Sorry to be so detailed, but the octopus skin should've been removed for this particular dish. For entress, I got the Chilean seabass and he got the pasta dish with sausage. Chilean seabass was perfectly prepared and delightful to look at. The pasta dish left more to be desired. The sauce tasted strongly like chef boyardee's spaghetti and meatballs. While the garganelli itself was well prepared, it just wasn't good to eat. We decided to do without dessert and wrapped up our meals at this point. My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner here and it was great! The food was so good with a lot of variety for any food allergies or preferences. The ambience was perfect. They have a live musician that is playing classical and current hits on a clarinet or oboe or saxophone and it was great for the atmosphere. The service was top notch! Special thanks to Roberto Cruz for helping us set up the entire rehearsal dinner and being a great point of contact with any questions we had leading up to the big day! Avarage atmosphere, fine taste of food. But service was kinda slow. We had a reservation for 9:30pm and when we get there 9:15ish they said it's little early. We were waiting at the lobby and they walked us inside around 9:45pm. In about 35 minutes we got our food. They should improve their service speed little better. My favorite Italian restaurant in Cancun. The staff is so warm and friendly, and the food is fabulous. The atmosphere is very formal: they offer palette cleansers and live music. Attentive and friendly without being obsequious.Not pushy about getting you in out - they'll leave you alone to eat in peace which is nice. Food: Excellent. I had the seafood with saffron broth. Perhaps a little light on quantity but very nice flavor and I wish I had time to go back and try some other items on the menu. On that matter - the octopus dish shown in the photos in Yelp is no longer on the menu which is a downer. The main course came with choice of fresh bread rolls and they also offered a tasty mouse bouche. Price: Above average but unlike a lot of the pricey places on the strip it was worth it. This place is *chef's kiss* We ate here one night and then loved it so much, we came back for 2 more nights! The waitstaff is outstanding and kind, and the food is something to rave about. They make the pasta in house and it. Hits. Different!!! It is so delicious. We tried multiple menu items, but one night I wanted something off the menu (fettuccine Alfredo) and they made it with no hesitation. They were extremely accommodating and went above and beyond. Top Excellence in Food, Service, Ambience. Was greeted by the restaurant employees with warmth, and felt very welcomed, unlike some of the racist restaurants in USA. The food we ordered, including the pasta carbonara, pasta seafood mixto, veal chops, and pear salad were amongst the best food that we've ever eaten in any restaurant. Entrees came out hot, were delicious. I liked the live music during our dinner. Prices were very reasonable, if not less expensive, compared to Italian restaurants in the USA. We decided to try Gustino out since we were staying at the JW this was very convenient. The ambiance is very romantic with candles and live saxophone. The staff provided good service. We ordered the bosc pear carpaccio which was good. The beet purée was a little over powering. We also ordered the buffalo prosciutto pizza which was disappointing. I love thin crust but this was more like a thin cracker. The pizza had way too much cheese. We ended up not eating the pizza and the server was happy to take it off the bill. The homemade tagliatelle with truffles was absolutely amazing. If you are anywhere near Gustino go and order this dish. The truffles were amazing, I wanted to lick the bowl clean. Server said the veal chop is amazing, I disagree. The chop was barely seasoned and someone poked it with a knife to see if it was done. I was looking forward to a mouthwatering veal chop but I was disappointed. The homemade tagliatelle with truffles is hands down one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. read more

Thouorghly enjoyed everything. From the soft live music to the winding staircase down to the restaurant besides the wine cellar. It is a must as is in many authentic Italian places multiple courses. I started with shrimp sautéed with polenta as an appetizer. There were several styles of bread served with olive oil and balsamic. The baked bread with cheese was outstanding. I stayed for 3 nights at the JW Marriott and as a Marriott employee I was not very impressed. HOWEVER, Upon our last night there we decided to treat ourselves to a nice sit down dinner at Gustino. What a treat. Our server, Hector, gave us excellent service as well as suggestions. We were celebrating a birthday as well as my engagement with my fiance and they made it feel as if we were the most important guests in the restaurant. Went here tonight with my husband. Beautiful restaurant. Hostess had great service. But that's where it ended. We were seated for 20 minutes before we were greeted by our waiter or offered water. Food was good until the sea bass. Presentation is unappealing. They brought it to me in the paper bag they cooked it in. Veggies were limp, and devoid of color. The real issue was the lack of attention. The servers were so busy it took a very long time to be waited on. Disappointed. It could have been so wonderful. read more

The setting was beautiful. The high ceilings, the view of the winding pool and grounds, and the table full of candles at the center. All of it: beautiful. The service was very good as well. Erick ensured that we were always taken care of, and was very attentive, knowledgable, and professional. But while all of that was great, the main reason for my five star review: Chef Francisco Rosciano. I cannot say enough for him. My girlfriend and I are vegan, and we tend to have a hard time finding restaurants with more than one option for us (if that!). Gustino seemed like the nicest restaurant at the JW Marriott (which was confirmed after visiting; very classy!), and I wanted my girlfriend and I to have a special dinner one night. I contacted the restaurant through the JW Marriott website to ask about vegan options, and the man himself, Chef Francisco, emailed me back the very next day with a list of several options, some of them custom! He also said that if I let him know what evening we will be dining with them, he would ensure that the pastry chef made a special dessert for us (I did, and he did!). The food was delicious! Erick first brought out an apple-based amuse bouche that was very nice. We then started with a tomato bruscetta that was both delicate and savory. As my girlfriend commented, Italians certainly know their breads! Erick then brought an orange sherbet to cleanse our palates before the main course. For our mains, we each ordered our own focaccia pizza (no cheese, obviously, since we're vegan) and shared a fettuccine dish (using a special fettuccine that was not made with egg) with artichokes, asparagus, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes. When I tell you it was to die for... oh my god... so good!! For dessert, as promised, Chef Francisco arranged with the pastry chef for a vegan dessert. I don't know how to describe it very well, but I'll try. It had a pair of long, thin, crumbly graham crackers with chocolate mousse spread in between, and I believe a kind of raspberry jam or accent on the side. Whatever it was, the dessert was amazing! The entire meal was delicious, and the presentation of each of the dishes was very well done and appealing. I only wish I took pictures! Before our main dishes came out, Chef Francisco came to our table and introduced himself. We had spoken via email, but he wanted to introduce himself in person and welcome us. He even offered to speak with the chefs at the other Marriott restaurants about accommodating our vegan diet! It's hard to describe to others, but as vegans, we frequently feel like we're on "the outside" of society. I'm not complaining, because it is by choice, but when someone goes the extra mile to ensure that we are cared for just like everyone else, it is DEEPLY appreciated! From the egg-free custom pasta dish, to the dairy free dessert... Chef Francisco, Erick, and Gustino proved that they genuinely care about their guests. I highly recommend that everyone visit Gustino! Whether you are vegan or carnivore, or anything else in between, Gustino cares about you and will take the extra step to ensure that you have a great experience! read more
