As is with everything with life, you make plans and God laughs. The night before I was planning on getting my car inspected, the "check engine light" turned on in my car. The next day, I took it over to Gus's Car Care to get it checked out and was told the diagnostic tool (and their records) stated my car was seen for this issue before. They replaced the part free of charge (they said it was under warranty) and didn't even charge me for manual labor. As a college student, with a limited budget, I cannot recommend them enough! Honest and provides quality work- both essential in good mechanic and shop. 10/10 read more

I am a young woman and stopped by this place to get my car engine light checked. They tried to scam me and said $70 just to check it but luckily auto zone is next door and did it no charge. I don't generally leave negative reviews but I was very unsatisfied with how I was treated when I arrived at this car place. I arrived and was treated as if I was annoying him by being there. I asked if he had an issue with me and he shrugged and said "what do you want". I asked if there was anyone else that I could talk to and he said you can park and go inside and talk to that man. By the time I parked, he had already spoken to the man inside the shop. The man rushed me by and was clearly trying to have me leave the shop as soon as possible - he was not very helpful. It's such a shame because I went there when some guys at Take 5 (service which is amazing) had recommended the place but the service was not great at all. No need to treat possible customers this way. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

A friend of mine recommended this place repeatedly to me throughout the years. A good friend of his works there and has done a lot of work on his car. It was good work, and I heard their prices were great. So when my timing belt snapped, it seemed like a good time to bring it in. All in all, it started out as a fairly normal experience. I dropped off my car, was told they would have it opened and ready to go within a few days. Come to find out, it took them nearly a week to even give me a price estimate. And that estimate was twice what they initially quoted me. Ok, fine. When the timing belt broke, a few valves were bent in the process. It could have been a lot worse. The real fun came next. A number of people I've known that have gone here have always said the same thing: "Don't let Tom work on your car. Request ANYONE but him." So I did that exactly. Who worked on my car? Tom. And I can tell you exactly why people have said to avoid him at all costs: he is an idiot that has no business working on cars. I get a phone call nearly two weeks after dropping it off: "your car is ready, come pick it up." So I did. The battery was dead, they jumped it for me. I drove it around the block to test it out, and it ran fine. But I did notice an overwhelming fragrance of antifreeze. And I don't mean a hint of it. It smelled like it was splashed all over my floorboards. But they were dry. As I pulled up to the next light, I saw steam coming out from under my hood. So I pulled over, popped the hood, and saw problem number 1. When Tom drained my coolant, he apparently let it somehow end up all over my engine compartment. The only way he could have gotten more around it was if he literally hosed it down with coolant. And I'm not entirely sure he didn't. It was on the engine, all over the various contours of the engine and surrounding parts, it was even all over the insulating material attached to the hood. So I figured that instead of using the drain plug conveniently located on the bottom of the radiator, he must have pulled a few hoses while the car was running or hot and let them spew all over. There is literally no other reason I can come up with for this. But ok, that stuff will eventually burn off. The smell will eventually fade. So I signed the paperwork, paid, and drove off. About 10 miles later, I notice something else. I'll call this "problem number 2." The engine sounded different. It was starting to sound a bit like a diesel engine. And that's a little strange considering that my car is a 4 cylinder, with zero modifications done, and drives on gasoline. Then the low oil warning light came on. I pulled into a nearby Autozone, grabbed a few quarts of oil, and topped it off. Apparently Tom forgot to put oil back in the engine after he worked on it. Fine, things happen. Maybe he was busy or had a bad day. I now had oil and life was back to normal. But one thing stood out in my head. When I paid and signed off on the ticket, the owner (Gus, I assume) warned me in very specific words "Do not let your car overheat." That was a little strange I thought. But maybe it was something like when your mom tells you to be careful around strangers when growing up. They say it, it's a knee jerk reaction to you leaving the house. So maybe this was something like that. Except, three days later, my car did overheat. So I took it back to them. Apparently one of my radiator fan motors went out. "That will be another $250, but we can have it done today. you can even wait for it if you want." Great... here is my card... again. Sure, this could have been a coincidence. And my mom could have been born in a science lab from a test tube where she learned where to tell me to be careful of strangers. I doubt it, but it is possible. Now I think my problems are done. They managed to get another couple hundred bucks from me, so now I'm done with them. Except, a couple weeks later, my car started to make that weird diesel sound again and I checked the dipstick. Come to find out, it was low on oil again. So either I'm now burning oil or I have a leak. Neither were true when I took it in to be "serviced." Since I refused to go back, I just make it a point to add more oil every few times I fill up. It is annoying, but has become part of my routine. Thanks Tom. I really appreciate what you did for my car. You managed to find a way for me to never have to spend money on an oil change ever again. And thanks Gus. I do appreciate the heads up that my car would soon overheat so I could bring it back to you for a bit more work. I will never forget either of you. read more

Sorry about your experience Brian. I've always had good service from them. They always get back to me the same day with a price quote and are fairly reasonable when it comes to the pricing. I had them fix my alignment because it was shot a few months ago. they also have replaced tires and done oil changes for me. I would recommend them to anyone. Gus's is the place to go. I've taken two cars to Gus's and have had good results from both. First I took my Honda Civic which had an AC problem. They looked at it but couldn't fully diagnose it because it was an electrical problem. So why 4 stars? Because they didn't charge me a dime even though their diagnosis fee was clearly posted as $25 and instead of just throwing parts at it, they told me to take it to the dealer. Ok, off to the dealer and guess what? Gus's was right, it was an electrical problem, one that a dealer had the parts to fully diagnose. Thanks! So I decided to take my Nissan Quest to them because it was leaking power steering fluid badly. The high pressure hose was leaking and I had another place quote me over $600 for the repair. Gus's did it for about $400. Quite the savings, same or better work. Thanks again fellas. So I do recommend Gus's Car Care for regular maintenance work, hoses, belts and such. Why only 4 stars? Well, his building is obviously an old service station, it's cramped and not very clean looking on the inside. they don't offer courtesy drop off service like some. The guys obviously work on cars, lots of them, and it shows. But if you are looking for frills like a ride to work and free coffee in the waiting area, go use the $600 place. For me and my money, I'll go to Gus's. read more

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY AT GUS'S - THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. If you need an oil change or something typical like that they may be for you, but if you have a REAL problem don't bother coming here. I just got my car back and it is still broken and I still dont know what is wrong with it. They did not diagnose my problem, provided no useful information to me, and changed a brand new part that was just changed a month ago. When I asked what the problem could be the answer was: "I don't know - it could be your timing chain." Yeah, or it could be a bad oxygen sensor too - like my OBD code is telling me. I didn't take my car to someone who is supposed to be a professional to be told "I don't know what the problem is". If you like wasting your money - go to Gus's first - and then go to a REAL mechanic to your car fixed. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE!!! DONT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY BUSINESS. Doesnt even deserve one star. Car battery died on me, i pulled my car into the lot and immediately some rude old guy comes out yelling that i didnt park in the right place as if i worked at the shop and knew where to put the car. he could have simply politely instructed me where to put my car and i would have listened but instead we had a shouting match in which the guy was cussing at me, and basically asking for a fight. There is a Mobil1 directly next door, where the guys were courteous and a BIG help. Dont bother wasting time or money with Gus's Car Care, they dont deserve business with how they treat PAYING customers. read more

I had them fix my ac, and told me it was a part that would cost 400$, and it didn't work. Then they told me it was something else, that would cost another 400$. The next week, I took it in because it overheated to grease plugs fixed. They only did 5, and bent my chrome oil pan. I would never go there again, they overcharge and they're no good.
