The customer service from the owner's son (who runs the place) is very poor.
The owner/father was polite, entertaining and helpful when i purchased what I thought (and now don't know) was a new M&P Shield 9mm at Guntraders in Redmond Oregon. He was watching the store while his son was on vacation. We visited for an enjoyable hour or more on the day of purchase.
I learned from my mechanic in Redmond later that day, that S&W was offering a $50 rebate on the M&P 9 mm shields.
After getting home and looking at the S&W webpage it appeared my "new" pistol might qualify for that rebate provided I entered both a serial # and a qualifying SKU #. I still don't know if it does.
I called the owner from whom I purchased the gun a day or two later and asked for the SKU # bc I had not been given a box to take home which I assumed was bc I had also purchased a holster and had left w the gun in it. The owner was very polite and said he had not known about the rebate and did not know how to locate the SKU# but to follow up with his son in a week or more after the son returned from vacation.
I did. Unfortunately, the son was not only no help, he was rude - he did not even offer to make ANY effort to look up the gun via serial # or sales receipt or other record (all of which I offered) to provide the SKU; or to confirm the gun was new (as i had been told) or used.
His tone and comments were uncalled for. He said things like "did you buy the gun from me or my dad"? (knowing I bought it from his dad) I answered "I told you -your dad" and he said "so obviously I don't know what my dad said now do I".
At a minimum, I would think all he had to do was offer to look up in his records the gun they sold me, tell me if it was new or used (he suggested it might be used which was news to me), and tell me if he could, or could not, locate an SKU #........ Instead, he did not offer to do anything and acted like he was too busy for me.
The sad thing is that for several weeks after purchasing the gun, I had told several folks about this cool shop where the owner(dad) was a fantastic guy etc.
Now after the call with the son/manager and the 180 degree different and negative experience with the son (who apparently runs the place day to day) I will never to set foot inside again.
I don't know if my gun fits the rebate profile or not and frankly its not a big deal. What is a big deal is the poor service attitude of this person in a local business.
I have never posted a negative review before. I may have only posted 2 or 3 reviews (all positive) of anything at all in my 58 years of life experience (which includes vast retail and small business experience as both an employee and owner) but this guy's approach was to rude to let slide by. read more
