Firearm dealers carry a stereotype. One nice employee surrounded by four curmudgeons. I didn't find that here. Even the old men who run the shop were asking to help me, were willing to let me handle several pistols, and were very helpful with my first visit to their range. Selection: good, IMHO. Gunsmoke is a 30 minute drive for me, but they are my go to choice. First, they are not like other gun ranges that charge by the hour and their rate is also cheaper. My brother and I grew up shooting and hunting with our dad and it's something we have been wanting to do again for years, but we lost our dad in 2018 and even though our dad had handguns, shotguns and rifles, we mainly only shot rifles when we were hunting with our dad and bb and pellet handguns. We were a little nervous to shoot a handgun for the first time and without our dad to teach us the right way. Most gun ranges that we have looked at seem very right wing and judgemental and like we didn't belong. So we thought we would never find a place where we felt safe to shoot. We checked out GUNSMOKE Firearms because a guy at a sporting goods store we were at recommended them because he shoots there. So we decided to go take a look and see what we thought. We also just sold some of dad's old guns and have been looking to purchase a new gun each for protection. We got to GunSmoke with the intention of just looking in the store, looking at the guns and finding out more about the shooting range. There was no right wing branded signs everywhere, the people were super friendly and nice. We told them that we had never really shot handguns, but grew up hunting and using different guns with our dad but we have been wanting to find a shooting range to shoot at. They were so kind and friendly, they told us we could shoot that very day if we wanted and they showed us everything we needed to know about shooting a handgun, where the safety was, how to load the gun, how to hold our hands, how to stand, it made us feel like our dad was there with us. We felt so comfortable we ended up shooting for over an hour. Their prices are some of the best we have found anywhere and we have done our research. They let you rent guns you want to try there. So even though it's a little over an hour away from our house, we loved it and will be back regularly. What a great find, I have driven by here so many times and never stopped in. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable, they are there to help with questions and show you anything they have, all without being pushy. The shop is s much more than just a firing range, when you first enter, you are surrounded by swag, gear, gun safes and pretty much anything you need for range shooting and safety. You go through the next large doorway and they have displays cases with a very good selection of handguns and behind the cases is a large selection of long arms. You won't have to wait long if at all before an employee is there to assist with any question you may have. Prices seen to be comparable to the surrounding market pricing, the plus is the attention they are able to give you and not rush you. The shooting range is good, well lit, the ventilation system does a good job removing any smoke from the shot ammo. They space out the shooters as much as the can so you don't have to be concerned about hot brass. They offer a senior discount on Tuesdays which is a awesome perk that will keep me going back Definitely a place you shout check out when your looking for firearms, new gear, and safes or lockboxes for securing your guns at home. read more

I have been coming here for years. It is under new ownership. During the week, the staff is great. Do not come on the weekends. I just came to shoot after buying a pistol from them. It will be my last. One employee is nothing but rude. He is a younger tattooed gentleman. He talks down to you and acts like a know it all. The range itself is pretty straight forward, had more of an issue with the older gentleman working one particular day. Charged us twice in addition to the range fee because one of the target holders got damaged; sure that's fine but when your excuse is that you're going to have to charge double because now you can't use that lane...the range has 10 lanes and only 1 other one was being used. The man just had a little bit of an edge to him that was little too confrontational when I approached him about the mistake. Rolled his eyes several times...if that happens frequently, maybe get better quality target holders? read more

I found the ammo to be a little pricey but the store is modern and clean. The range is excellent. I enjoyed shooting here.

I enjoy shooting here a lot as the staff are great and knowledgeable as well as friendly. My only complaint however (and only reason for 4 vs 5 stars) is that the range, being ten years old now, is definitely showing its age. It's in quite a need of a renovation. The ceiling is always leaking, and the walls have no yardage markings so you can't tell how far away your target is. Also, the target mounts and retrieval systems need to be replaced as one or more are often in poor shape and/or out of commission when I'm there. Unfortunately, binder clips to hold the paper targets break constantly. A renovation with updated target systems, fresh paint and distance markings on the walls, as well as on the control panels would be not only ideal, but greatly welcome. read more

Great clean place to go to target practice. Annual passes are priced good - I wish they gave more than 5 guest passes in a year for spouse to join at least once a month, or at least have a spouse plan. The family plan is priced too high for just 2 adults in the family interested in target practice. Great service and extremely friendly staff. So far the best shooting range I've found around here. Great shooting range and gun store. They keep a great variety of rental guns to let you try the major brands at a low price, and the workers are all very friendly and available for advice and help. They didn't even laugh at me or my wife when a round ended up backwards in the chamber on a rented 9 mm. The clientele are also very approachable, but I've found that to be true in lots of places. If you express interest, they're glad to help you learn! My wife and I both enjoyed the experience so much that we intend to sign up for some of the classes they offer to learn more about how to be safe and responsible gun owners before we buy. read more

One of the best gun shops and indoor ranges I've gone to in Georgia. 1) Customer Service: Staff Was very helpful and went out of their way to answer my questions from Hawaii Gun Laws to doing FFL transfers and Georgia Laws. Gave no bs opinions what various hand-guns giving me the option to formulate my own opinion. There not just trying to make a sale but ensure that your 100% confident about what you want so your satisfied with what you purchased. 2) Selection: Wide variety of accessories, holsters, eye-pro, weapon accessories. Whether or not if they have i they'll make sure you know what you need to know 3) Indoor Range: Very nice and maintained indoor range. Double door'd to ensure no noise pollution on the sales floor. 4) Selection: Wide variety of hand-guns of various calibers. 5) Price: Like many range that rent guns you usually have to use their ammo. When I rented their hand-guns, I purchased Federal Premium ammo cheaper than what I thought that I would have to pay. Their rental guns are very well-maintained, after 400 rounds of various calibers I did not encounter and malfunctions. If I am ever in the area I definitely always make my way to check them out and shoot a bit. Definitely recommend. read more

My husband signed me up for a gun safety course. I have never shot a pistol before, but was willing to learn about it and handle it safely. Craig was an awesome 'professor' and explained everything easily and proficiently. I was concerned not scared, but one shot and my fear was over. Craig's son Parker was also awesome and patient. I called to see if they had any Ak47 steel magazines in stock, I was told that they did and when I drove 20 minutes to pick some up two associates where just chatting at the counter and when I asked where the magazined where one of the guys just pointed to where the mags where. We are newbies at owning a gun. I have nothing but good things to say about Hi-Caliber. I called for a specific gun, which was in short supply during the Covid-19 pandemic, and Bill set it aside for me - no questions asked. We went there right away and our gun was there waiting for us. Rick took care of our business explaining all about the guns we asked about, demonstrating how they worked, and answering our laughable stupid questions without as much as a grin. Of course, we bought the gun, with a laser light, which Rick installed for us. A week or two later we went there for Rick, and got another gun with a laser. Again, he took care of us as before. I've been to a ton of gun ranges from the time I enlisted in the military(1991-93 USN) up until today. These guys at the shop are top notch. Very knowledgeable, they don't talk to you like you're an idiot if you ask questions. The gun range is really nice and air-conditioned, very roomy... And they also offer a fully automatic Rentals along with a myriad of classes. If you don't look like a 40 year old man who can drop 2 grand that day, the staff will mostly ignore you or be rude. The last time I went I decided I would not be back and went to Big Woods Goods right down the street. Myself and numerous friends and my family would go to Hi-Caliber because it is a small local place, but every time we go the service is worse than before. Prepare to wait for awhile if you want to shoot, doesn't seem to matter what time of day or how busy it is. They will not have enough staff on hand to hande even 4 customers in the store at once. A couple of months ago I was notified that I won a contest and went to pick up my prize. Two people had no idea what the contest was and it took 45 minutes to grab a box with my name on it out of the back room. Seriously. The final time that we decided we were done, was when we went to shoot, filled out all info and simply needed to swipe a card and go to the range, the clerk takes off to show someone renting an automatic how to shoot, while there were 5-6 people in line to just pay and shoot. After waiting 15 minutes, and listening to the only other employee BS with someone else on the other side of the store, we left. I've since started shooting at Big Woods Goods and it is much better, every time. read more
