I was referred to GunKraft by my cousin, who took their course a few years ago during his CCW process. While I am comfortable handling a pistol, I have always struggled with accuracy. As a CCW applicant getting ready to schedule the required 16 hour training, I knew my shooting ability was going to be a risk factor. Two days before my CCW class, I booked a one on one session with Robin. That decision made all the difference. Robin quickly identified the issues in my grip, stance, and trigger control and explained both the why and the how in a way that was easy to understand and immediately actionable. He gave me targeted drills to work on and followed up with a clear email recap so I could keep practicing on my own. After a couple of focused range sessions, I showed up to my CCW training feeling prepared, even if still a bit nervous. The 16 hour CCW course itself exceeded expectations. On Day 1, we spent part of the time in the classroom and the rest on the range. After a brief warm up, we went straight into qualifications and drills. The instruction was practical and useful, both in terms of shooting and understanding the legal and safety framework behind carrying. Day 2 was classroom based, and while that might sound tedious, it was anything but. The topics were genuinely interesting, the class was engaged, and the open dialogue format made it feel like a conversation rather than a lecture. GunKraft delivers outstanding instruction for shooters of all experience levels. Whether you need private coaching or are going through the CCW process, I would not hesitate to recommend them. read more

As a returning student, I've now taken three classes with Robin over the years, including a recent 1on1 coaching session and the CCW class. Robin is extremely knowledgeable, but what stands out most is his professional, practical, and open minded approach to instruction. I highly recommend Robin to anyone looking for serious firearms training and will definitely continue taking classes with him. read more

Reflecting on this course, I was struck by how much ground we covered that other certification programs typically miss. Robin facilitates excellent situational discussions, providing a candid, unbiased perspective that is hard to find elsewhere. His range techniques and the specific drills he provided are high-value takeaways I'll be using in my own practice. I don't usually leave reviews, but for California CCW holders, getting 'the good, the bad, and the ugly' from an active peace officer is invaluable. I highly recommend this course and will definitely be back for my renewal in two years. read more

I recently contacted gun craft for a specific training. On the day of the training, I met with Robin Yang of gun craft. First, my appointment was at 4 PM and Robin showed up before the scheduled time. Robin introduced himself, stated the goals and objectives of the training, and asked me several pertinent questions regarding my experience and training. Robin was particularly cognizant of all safety issues related to my training. Robin provided me with a headset where he could directly communicate and instruct me during the training session After the initial phase of the required training, Robin critiqued several issues relating to his observations. Robin showed me corrective measures and directed me to use these new measures to improve my skills. Robin also explained the dynamics of specific equipment that I was using in a clear and understandable manner. This explanation clarified many issues I was not aware of and improved my performance. I highly recommend Robin Yang because of his knowledge and training skill, his attention to detail and safety in particular. read more

I hit the bullseye going to Robin at Gun Kraft! I checked out many Bay Area instructors, and I decided to go with Gun Craft because of their easy to navigate website, responsive communication, and recommendations from friends. I loved Robin's law enforcement experience and perspective of firearms. He gave excellent first hand knowledge of shooting and real-world situations. I found Robin to be very patient, and he was able to explain things in a way everyone can understand. I learned so much, got good advice, and walked away with many useful tips. Overall, this is a reputable, reliable, professional company. read more

TL;DR: Robin's class is an outstanding, well-structured use of the required 16 hours of training -- informative, practical, and an excellent value for the investment. The state mandates 16 hours of instruction and a qualification for new applicants. There are many ways an instructor could choose to fill that time -- but Robin treats it with the seriousness and respect it deserves. If I'm required to spend 16 hours learning about something as critical as carrying a firearm in public, I want that time spent with someone who is not only highly skilled, but who truly honors the responsibility that comes with this right. Robin delivers exactly that. He brings deep expertise, real-world experience, and a high level of professionalism to the classroom and the range. His instructional approach is not passive or checkbox-driven -- this is *not* a class where you just sit through slides. The material is thoughtfully designed from beginning to end, and Robin uses a wide range of tools to make the learning as realistic and hands-on as possible: full-size replica firearms in manufacturer holsters, field-tested tactical flashlights, and other practical equipment for safe, lifelike demonstrations and drills. On the range, he takes things a step further. Robin has developed a custom intercom headset system that integrates with hearing protection, allowing him to speak in a normal tone while every student can clearly hear instructions -- not just general commands, but individualized coaching. This setup elevates the entire experience, ensuring that every student benefits from expert, real-time guidance during the qualification. In short, Robin's class is an exceptional use of your time. It's professional, practical, and designed with both safety and real-world application in mind. I walked away with greater skill, deeper understanding, and full confidence that my time -- and money -- were very well spent. read more

Robin it's an awesome coach. Helped set up and coach me to be a better with my equipment.

I came here for my CCW class that was recommended by my friend that also took the course here. Robin, the instructor was great. He was very detailed on what to expect and explained the "why's" the consequences and how to avoid them. I was really expecting a boring class but it was really informative and I really learned a lot. I think every beginner should go through this class to really understand all the angles of owning a self protection tool. read more

I've had private training with Robin from Gun Kraft before, so I knew his training style was calm, rational, and reasonable. The materials he provides and reviews for CCW training are impactful, meaningful, and thought-provoking - not just for concealed carry but for self-defense more broadly, as well as implications of actions and reactions. He gave relatable and memorable examples to illustrate concepts. He is no-nonsense, safety first and foremost, and serious about the success of his students. I highly recommend any coursework offered by him as an instructor. read more

This is long overdue (a friend asked me for a recommendation which reminded me) .. I did an intro private lesson with Robin a couple years ago, and he's a great teacher - the right balance of seriousness given subject matter, but also making it comfortable / accessible to anyone. And it's super convenient - everything from signing up, meeting at the range and (if you need it) Robin supplying a firearm, radio earpiece to wear inside hearing protection for instructions, etc. If you're a beginner curious about firearms - looking for a safe/legal onramp in the Bay Area - there's just not that many good options; this is a great way to go. read more

Robin is a great firearms instructor. I took the 16hr new CCW qualification course in SN Leandro. Robin did a great job as a firearms and safety educator and skills trainer. Robin is the best $ I've ever spent. We did a 90 min 1 on 1 instruction. Quite possibly the best lesson in anything I've ever gotten. The improvement I made from the beginning to the end of the session was, frankly, unbelievable. I went in wondering if my gun's sights were wrong or if there was something about my approach that I'd just never get over. I left with practical, real knowledge about how to improve my shooting. Just remarkable. Those 90 minutes flew by. I plan on booking a follow up session. Can't give enough praise. read more

Where do I begin? Robin is an expert at what he does! I was worried about the 16 hour class, but Robin did a fantastic job at making the class interesting. Pay attention! He gives a great perspective and really teaches you a lot about the responsibility of having a CCW. I intend on seeing him in two years when it's time to renew! Don't question it. Just sign up. GunKraft beats any other class out there! read more

I think I have a unique opinion with CWW classes as I have taken 4 within the last couple of years. That is another story though. However I would have to rate this class vs the others. I think that is the only fair way to do it. If you are the type who enjoys sitting through Traffic School, this is the CCW class for you. This class had the least amount of range time of all the classes I attended. 3/4 of the time you are sitting listening to Robin. That's one star gone from the 5-stars. The moment you hit the range the first thing you do is qualify. This is the exact opposite of all the other classes I attended where they make a good effort to help you pass the qualification by giving you the basics and a little more to up your chances of passing the qualification. Hence you chances of passing qualification, if you hardly know how to shot aren't very good. That's another star gone. I can only assume he does this so you will book more time with him to make sure you pass your next try at qualifying. This is another $100 at least on top of the already epic price of $400 for this class. Why do I say this? Because there is a practice test before the actual written test which ups your chances of passing the actual test significantly, but zero training before the practical shooting qualification? One of my classmates was struggling with the qualification and he didn't help him at all besides give him another try at it. All the techniques he needed to pass were given to the whole class after failing the qualification twice. Not cool. I did learn a few new things from this class. For those couple of things Robin gets 2-stars. read more

Robin is an excellent instructor who wants one to be able to self diagnose errors in order to correct them. In addition, his classroom demeanor is both informative and interesting. I highly recommend his training classes. read more

I'm glad I picked this CCW class over the other ones. Robin is really passionate about what he teaches. 16 hours (8 hours per day) might sound a bit too much but the way Robin covers the class - it didn't even feel like it was 16 hours long. He kept everyone engaged and interested. Learned a lot of new things from his class. Highly recommended! read more

Excellent content and training. The instructor, Robin Yang, has a heart to make sure his students understand not only the necessary information needed in having a CCW, but is very effective in emphasizing the responsibility and seriousness it entails. I did my original qualification with Gun Kraft and my renewal. The class is always interesting, never boring. Thanks! read more

Robin's class was informative, kept me engaged, and offered the "why" behind many of the CCW permit concepts and nuances. His class was affordable, had helpful content, and it was easy to tell he's passionate about what he's teaching. Not only did he teach us the legal concepts and information... he also spent time with us on the range which was extremely valuable. He had us run through drills that I never would have thought of and will definitely use in my own personal time. He also coached us on techniques that were helpful in correcting possible issues with form/shot placement, etc. I'd definitely recommend this class to anyone looking to get their CCW or if they want to built competency, you could just take a training class with him. read more

Robin is an excellent instructor whose approach is focused on explaining the reasoning behind the techniques he teaches. Although he is geared toward novice to intermediate shooters, there is value in his classes for all levels of shooters, so long as those shooters come in with a learner's attitude. I found Robin's teaching style on day 2 of the CA CCW course to be clear, relatable, and understandable. It was evident that he had a lot of ground to cover in the 8 hours provided, but it never felt like we were cramming to be able to check the box, as it were. Moreover, Robin appears to care deeply about sharing knowledge with quality instruction rather than just churning out CCW certs and collecting tuition, as made evident by the copious amounts of extras he provides to the students above and beyond the bare bones basics as required by CA DOJ. So long as my issuing agency approves Gun Kraft, I'll keep renewing with Robin. read more

Robin's class is exceptional. Though two days at eight hours each is tough, I learned something extremely important about carrying legal concepts in CA, as well as how to safely operate and holster firearms. Highly recommend for CCW requirement applicants. I'll definitely be back for more advanced training. Make sure you understand safety issues and follow commands the entire time--many students, myself included, made mistakes. Good luck. read more

Just recently completed my 8 hour recertification for CCW @ Gunkraft / San Leandro gun range. We had maybe 3 or more different counties represented by 9 students. The class lecture is very informative and really makes you realize the importance of and seriousness of "signing up " for a CCW. So many categories are covered, from insurance, to the aftermaths of defending yourself with a gun, mental awareness, psychological awareness, first aid , 3 basic requirements needed to justify legal self defense with a gun, and so much more. Being able to eat lunch in the class is a plus. Every student was given a snazzy GunKraft baseball cap. The actual range qualifications went off without a hitch even with multiple counties and their corresponding requirements and also, most students having more than one gun on their card, having to qualify with each gun. It's a recertification class so be ready to prove you're worthy. Robin is patient dealing with any and all questions. read more

Robin's class was an excellent refresher for my CCW renewal. Pace and content was on point. This course isn't intended as a beginner gun course so please don't expect this to be. The point of these CCW courses is to ensure you are familiar with the laws, regulations, and that you are more than competent to handle a firearm in a situation where you need to deploy deadly force if required. read more

I had an amazing experience in Robin's 16-hour CCW class. The time flew by, which speaks volumes about his skills as an instructor. Normally, I struggle to stay awake in a classroom setting, but this class was completely different. Robin kept it engaging, interesting, and highly interactive with his students.
