Went to Security Six for my CCW training and thought it was going to be dry and boring but Larry and Sandy was super interactive, made sure we understood everything being taught and repeatedly promised we'd learn something new this weekend. I just completed the Alameda County approved CCW course with Security Six. I had been delaying the course, finally decided to go ahead. Picked Security Six because of convenient dates and enrollment availability. Really new very little about Security Six, only that it was approved by Alameda County. But I will say that I was happy I made the choice. Larry Hamby was the instructor for the two day course and truly probably has the most impressive background in firearms of anyone in the country. His extensive knowledge makes for interesting discussions and a meaningful training experience. I learned a lot and definitely look forward to getting back to the range. Another benefit for both the environment and expense is the use of computerized realistic weapon simulation for qualification scoring. Definitely a preferred approach. Be careful with filling out the sign in sheet they have everyone put their personal information, such as social security numbers, all on the same page. Security Six was the location I used to complete my required 16HR course for the California CCW permit. The staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions I had. Larry was a great instructor to have .... he will teach you the correct and safe way to shoot your weapon with the most accuracy possible. They use a laser simulator to test your shooting skills, so if you're looking to fire off live rounds ,you might want to check out another range.... but i found the simulator actually helped me to improve on my accuracy and i was able to apply all of the little tricks & skills that Larry will teach you in the class! ...Overall you will learn a lot of good information by using Security Six!! This is the place where I took my first gun training class almost 30 years ago, Larry Instructed me on the correct way to Zero in a 357 Colt Python at 25 yards down range; since then I have become a good marksman. Recently , l went back to do it all over again because I let my permits expire 2years ago and the experience was outstanding and Larry was great as usual. Because I had not been to the range in over 3 years, l was a bit rusty; but Larry wasn't; and corrected all of my imperfections. Most FFLs are rude and have an "I don't have time for you attitude," which doesn't make sense because if I had a good experience would give them more business. CONS: I don't really have any at this time. I will update this if I can come up with anything . OVERALL: Highly recommend for an FFL transaction. During the pandemic, BLM protests, and antifa...there are only a few ffls that are open and of those that are open only a few are excepting ppts. Even with the shops offering a ppt time slots they are charging a ridiculous amount for fees and monopolizing the market. I was able to find a seller on calguns and he picked this training facility/Ffl in Hayward. The owner Larry is a great guy and is genuinely a good person with a vast amount of knowledge. They charge a very Resonable rate (even if we weren't going through the adversities that we are today). It was a quick and painless experience. Even though I live 30 miles away and there are plenty of ffls between my home and this Ffl, I'd much rather prefer to take the drive and be treated right with reasonable pricing and friendly customer service. The word best describing the staff and the company is "integrity." They take seriously what they're doing and meld their knowledge on the variety of issues taught in the class into one, consistent message. Both were highly personable and professional throughout the day, were very organized as the presented material on several subjects. Both kept the class moving, avoiding possible ratholes and expertly guiding conversations back to the curriculum so there were no pressured moments later in the day.
