Food, service, music were all AMAZING. It was our first time here and we brought our daughter-in-law for her birthday. Her favorite movie is Princess and the Frog, and she's about to start school in Louisiana in the fall, so we really wanted to find a great Cajun food/Gumbo place to take her to to celebrate. This place did not disappoint! We ordered Fried Lobster, Gumbo Wings - get them!!!, King's Gumbo, Queen's Gumbo, Prince's Chicken and Prince's Crab and Shrimp and everything was sooooooooooooooo freaking delicious! The portions are generous and there's lots of everything in the gumbo to where you get some of everything in every bite. They even brought us some extra goodies for it being a birthday and the Peach Cobbler was the best any of us has ever tasted. The servers were all very friendly and helpful. I was very excited to try this place after seeing the gumbo wings and drinks posted on Social Media! As I walked in I was greeted with Hello Queen , which we were addressed in this manner the entire visit, nice that this establishment shows this kind of respect! Now on to the food , I ordered the gumbo wings with Snow Crab and garlic noodles! The gumbo wings definitely did not disappoint , I was born in Louisiana and I know what authentic Gumbo tastes like and Gumbo King got it on point , It's all about the Roux ... now unfortunately the Garlic Noodles were a miss for me , first of all someone put the noddles on a cracked plate , then someone else served them on that same cracked plate there was one crack going toward the middle of the plate then the edges of the plate were chipped off , our server graciously offered to replace the dish but by then my wings were cooling down and the experience was already ruined! So the Gumbo wings get a 11 out of 10 crispy and flavorful but the garlic noodles get 5 out of 10 , even when the dish was replaced it lacked the depth of flavor I am used to in good garlic noodles, My sister ordered the Lamb Chops with a side of greens and mashed potatoes, she gave the entire dish 7.5 out of 10 ... mentioning that Lamb Chops were good , cooked the way she asked, however the mash potatoes came out luke warm which turned cold half way through the meal ! I enjoyed the complementary cornbread, buttery and moist with a hint of sweetness.. 8 out of 10 .. Another disappointment was that they were not serving any alcoholic drinks on Friday evening ??! I came specifically for a drink I saw on social media , not sure what the deal was since they have a bar in the restaurant... The service was good , 9 out of 10 , everyone seemed friendly and knowledgeable about the menu., and did their best to accommodate us with the issues that came up during our visit! This place proves my point that you can't support all black businesses....because many of them lack customer service skills. Gumbo King is one of those businesses. First impressions are everything and when you first pull into the parking lot, it's like you're immediately in an old blacksploitation movie. Not a Great Experience at All! I went here 2/3/24 for my birthday and did not have a good experience at all. First, I had a reservation for 10 people. They lost my reservation. Even though only 5 of us ended up attending, we still had to wait to be seated. Please remember this detail when you get to the end of this review. ;) One of my friends bought me a drink for my birthday. I NEVER received it. It probably took us about an hour+ to receive our food. The food was actually good, but definitely not worth the wait. They give you free cornbread for the table to start. The place was empty for a 10 mins shortly it filled up. There was lots of wait staff they are friendly. They have happy hour 2-4pm 7-9pm that helps with the wait! First, I want to thank Gumbo King for accommodating 38 adults and two very active kids! The service for our party size was OUTSTANDING! One server (I believe her name is Alyssa) took our table and handled it like a BOSS! Wait time was a tad long, BUT very appropriate for 38 adults! The consensus from the group was that the food was top tier. My snapper and grits were very good! My cousin who was seated next to me had the same order, however, his grits came in a smaller bowl. I've been wanting to try Gumbo King for some time now and finally made it here. I was excited to pickup my food after I ordered, but pleasantly disappointed once I picked it up. First, over the phone, I had to pay to place my order. I understand it. That's fine and all, but I didn't understand how my total got to $85 without tip. For $85, here is what I ordered: King's Gumbo with shrimp $19.95 (unknown how much extra to add shrimp) Chef Tom's Fried Lobster $24.95 Turkey Greens $8 Mac & Cheese $8 Cornbread $5.20 Sub-total before tax should be $66.1 (not adding the shrimp because I wasn't informed of the cost for adding shrimp). I'll put tax at 9%, which would make my total before the extra cost of shrimp, $72.05. That would mean they charged me $13 for shrimp in the gumbo. I was expecting to find out from the receipt, but I wasn't given one at pickup. My fault I also assumed it would be in the bag. During the phone order direct to the restaurant, I asked if it was possible to get complimentary cornbread since they offer it to dine-ins, but I was told no and I'd have to pay for it. I asked how much corn bread was and the employee said it was $5.20. I agreed thinking I'd get a decent amount of cornbread. I got 2.5 bite size pieces and one piece looked half eaten. Now looking at pictures from previous visitors, they got 4 small pieces for free and I got 2.5 small pieces for $5.20. I think that's a rip off. Lots of chunks of sausage and chicken, well seasoned. My mom had the gumbo on grits. The only flaw here is that the portion was huge! The girts were delicious. Not to long ago I went to get lunch with an old coworker. We were excited because of all the hype. We checked in to get a table which was some what busy but not too bad. Which is ok. So we waited for about 20 minutes when we asked if they knew if we would get seated soon. They said "yes" again I understand. A family walked in and checked in. They were asked if they had been here before and they said no. They were then to be seated by the front staff. The garlic noodles flavor is good but heavily saturated with butter and not quite done and the Same with the sautéed shrimp and salmon overly saturated with butter but the salmon slightly over cooked. As I answered in a question, I'll restate here, very pricey, food was salty, too many flies(few flies, okay), but we fanned over our food the entire time we ate inside at the restaurant. Took an hour to get our food, guessing everything is made fresh. My patty size was two adults and a gratuity was charged. I went to Gumbo King this past Sunday after having some catfish from them at Black Business Click Family day. Catfish needed a bit more salt for me but was fried so well and was real catfish not basa. So walked in a was seated right away. Next to the wall. No smoke meat flavor, I could not place the flavor buy greens were tender. Cabbage tasted more boiled then fried but was okay. Firstly, being greeted with such warmth set the tone for the night. Everyone said hello with amazing smiles. We came very late in the night, so unfortunately not everything we wanted to try was available. However, the server was super attentive and informative. She was also very helpful with suggestions. We were also sent off with well wishes and it was a great experience! The gumbo is authentically homemade and hit the spot. The cornbread is amazing. My husband enjoyed his lamb chops, Mac & cheese, and asparagus. He wants to go back earlier in the day next time to try more food. There's a bar with tvs. Some great music was playing. I sang for most of the night. The seating varies between higher tables towards the bar and lower tables around the rest of the restaurant. Their bathrooms are super clean. Based on what another table was saying, there's usually a wait with the food because the food is made to order. To us, it was worth the wait. We're excited to try more food asap! read more

Unfortunately, I can't speak on the food because we never received any. I can only speak of the service which was extremely disappointing. Let me tell y'all what happened- We went up to Sac this past Labor day weekend to spend time with family who all lives up there and my family plus my mother in law (party of 6) came in on this past Sunday night around 8pm. We were seated and the nice waitress brought waters and cornbread and then came and took our drink order and food order. Now mind you we came for gumbo and she said they only had the Queens gumbo and no more Dungeness crab only snow crab which was a let down (if you make gumbo then you know). Anyway, we let that go because we had really been looking forward to eating here. There was huge party that came in about 20min after us but before that it was pretty chill and it looked like everyone else in the restaurant had their food. We were so patient we let at least 45min to an hour (which I'm almost embarrassed to even say we waited that long) and still hadn't received our drinks, food or were checked on. At that point we were getting hungry and the kids were getting restless as we have a 10, 7 and 2 year old and so we tried to ask both a young guy with dreads and a guy at the bar if we can get an update and they said they would check but never came to let us know anything. We waited another 10-15 minutes and it seemed like the one waitress gal was busy handling all the tables and prioritizing Togo orders on her own for the most part. So my mother in law decides to just get up and ask her where our order was and the waitress comes back and says somehow our ticket was thrown away and they could start making it or we did we want to just cancel. So ofc we just canceled because we were all starving and upset at that point. My thing is, no one checked on us in that time and when we were told our ticket was thrown away there was no sincere apology or anything she was very nonchalant about it maybe she was used to this happening or overworked bc she was the only waitress I don't know, but as a customer, this was unacceptable. I had 3 hungry children who love gumbo and we were all looking forward to it. I came across Gumbo King about a month ago because a foodie guy name Grub with Mike had reviewed this place. I had been hyping this place up to everyone at our family Labor Day party. When I tell y'all hyping it up I mean pulling out my phone and showing their instagram page videos and everything smh The next day I'm talking with my family we were all gonna have dinner together but some of the group wanted burritos for dinner because they were saying they just had soul food the day before. But you couldn't tell me nothing- I had my heart set on trying gumbo king. It's hard to find a good bowl of seafood gumbo outside your own kitchen so we broke off from the group and went. And the funny part is I say all this to say at the end of the night guess where we ended up?? At the dang burrito spot everyone else had went to except by the time we left Gumbo King and got our burritos to eat at home everyone else had got their burritos, ate and went to bed happy LOL and here we were scarfing down burritos at 10pm which were BOMB. We coulda just enjoyed burritos with the rest of the fam but nooooo it was all my fault. Shoulda coulda woulda, lesson learned. Gumbo King, if you're reading this, just know I really wanted to be your new biggest fan and customer I coulda cried with how bad I was looking forward to a bowl of gumbo.
