Top: catfish with rice & gravy + greens Bottom: chicken wings with Mac & cheese + grits

Found this restaurant on Yelp, while searching for soul food. I came up from the South Bay for an event & had a craving. Came for the oxtails, but it was close to closing, and they had run out already. A few other items were sold out by that time too. So if you want a full menu to choose from, come early. We ordered the fried catfish with rice & gravy and greens for sides, and the chicken wings with mac & cheese and grits for sides. Everything was spot on deliciousness! Yum!!! The staff was so nice and very attentive. They actually seem happy to be there, which is not common these days. It was a breath of fresh air! Thanks Colo's! I wish you were in the South Bay! I'll definitely visit again next time I'm in the area.

Oooh! Fried fish and chicken are breaded nicely with so much flavor! And the black eyed peas, again flavor! I definitely want to come back and try their shrimp po boys. Friendly staff, order came out quick. Will be back again.

Me and my wife came here for a to go meal. When we entered the restaurant we were greeted by staff. Staff were friendly and polite. My wife ordered the red snapper fish, yams, shrimp and macaroni and cheese. My wife loved her plate. The fish and shrimp were cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The yams were sweet and flavorful. The macaroni and cheese were cooked to perfection and very cheesy. I ordered the catfish, ribs, okra and macaroni and cheese. The catfish and ribs were cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The okra and macaroni and cheese was the perfect side dish to the meat. Ambiance is customer friendly. A great place to get soul food.

The owner is from Baton Rouge and as a Louisiana native, this food tastes like home. The food came out hot and fresh since it's made to order. Our server was kind and attentive. She offered us a deck of Uno cards to play while we waited for the food. The food, music, and decor will make you feel like you're home! Support a local Black-owned business by having a meal here.

The food was amazing! The service was top tier. My husband and I really enjoyed the food. They're so many options on the menu, so hard to choose from...lol The grilled chicken was seasoned to perfection. Hats off to the chef.

Wow! From start to finish Colo's was exceptional. They treated us so well and the atmosphere was so welcoming. We played cards they provided prior to our food coming out. Everything was simply delicious. If ever visiting I'll be sure to return.

I cannot believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. This is my second time here May 3. The ambience is immaculate. What I mean by that is I enjoy the decor and the place is clean, but the vibe is top-tier. The servers are friendly. The patrons are fun and if you look around, you will see most people playing games or in lively conversation at their table. The food is fire. They have a well thought out menu of comfort foods and I have never ordered something that disappointed me here. I actually got a picture of the grits and catfish this time. It was so very good. My son ate my leftovers and I wanted to go back the next day. If you are looking for a place to relax have a good time and enjoy amazing food go here fast.

Overall: 4.25/5 Food: 4/5 Customer Service: 4/5 Price: 4/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Best Po'Boy I've had! I can't even lie, the Shrimp Po'Boy here go crazy!! The nicely toasted inside of the bun, the soft outer part of the bun, the batter on the shrimp is so light yet so crispy, the pairing of the grilled onions and peppers, and those 2 sauces they give you... Good GAWD! Outta here! I need that 5 days a week! The Ox Tails... Crazy!! So damn good. Literally, the best Ox Tails I've had at a restaurant and the closet to home cooked Ox Tails! The Peach Cobbler was my least favorite thing. The day I went, I think someone just went too heavy on the All-Spice. I will try a different dessert next time. But this place is one of my favorites just after the first visit. If your not familiar with the area, just don't park your car with valuables left out. If you do, you was warned! Lol

In honor of Back History Month, I checked out one of Sacramento's best Soul food spots, Colo's Soul Food Colo's is a Mardi Gras themed restaurant with southern comfort food and tables games such as Dominoes, UNO and more. The staff was so welcoming here and they truly took the time to help us order, they have soo many options there so it was definitely hard to narrow it down. @colossoulfood , Del Paso Blvd Hours: Wed-Sunday 1PM-7PM What we ordered : * 4 way combo plate with fried Snapper, catfish, chicken and ribs. The breading and seasoning they use to fry their meats has a nice crunch and great flavor. *3 sides: Mac and cheese, hush puppies, and rice & gravy. Everything was so good but HIGHLY recommend their rice & gravy and Mac & cheese for their sides.

Attended a Paint Party in support of #VeronicaSmith Running for Sacramento City Council District 2. Given by Cassandra Berry. In the heart of District 2 Del Paso Heights, in the city of Sacramento, CA. Colos is a soul food classic. The food is always flavored excellent! I ordered a lunch fish snapper and Potato Salad plate. Delicious. The service was great. We even got a chance to talk and take pictures with the owner and her son. The ambiance was clean and colorful. Looked like a scene from a movie shot in New Orleans.

Off the beaten path in West Sacramento, you can find this little gem called Colo's Soul Food. At the present there working they are working thier way back from remodeling and covid issues...but, service was good and so was the food. Took my mom out for dinner on a Saturday evening...got in before the storm of folks flew in. The vibe inside was definitely New Orleans jazz club with a restaurant in the back. It was a little under-staffed, but a lot of places are right now as they are recovering. Getting to the good part...food was quite tasty as we ordered an Oxtail plate which came rice & gravy +2 sides. The other plate ordered was a fried rib and bbq chicken plate + 2 sides. There was a simple variety of drinks like sodas, lemonade, beers...etc. Overall a good experience. Most likely a one-time pop off for me tho... Ciao for now!

First time finally coming here 3/28/25. We ordered for pick up; it was ready in 20 mins. Friendly staff, fried snapper (bone in), Mac and cheese, greens and yams (not pictured) were so good. Would definitely go again. Apparently the system was down, so they were only accepting cash at that moment, which wasn't a problem.

I really hate having to write this review because the staff is really nice and this place has a good ambiance. But those are the only positives that I can give. I stopped by after ordering 4 meals from the Too Good To Go app. When my husband, daughter, and I arrived we were quickly checked in for our orders. My husband saw a few other items on the menu so he ordered some additional sides. I recommend coming early in the day as they tend to run out of the more popular items. As others have stated, there is a long wait time. We waited about 30 minutes for our food to be ready. When we got home we realized the $7 okra my husband ordered was missing from the bag. We had to really season the food in order to eat it! And even then it was a challenge. We ended up giving a lot of it to the dogs. There was just no flavor or the flavor wasn't good. My 12 year old said the yams were the worst shes ever had! At first I thought she was being dramatic until I tried them. They were awful! Same for the chicken and mac and cheese. I would like to think we came on an off night but based on reviews other yelpers have posted I highly doubt it.

We learned on our very first visit how good the gumbo is and it's become a must ever since. The people who work here are friendly and you can tell they have a lot of regulars who stop in for food. There's a gravel lot right next to the building and you can take your food to go or enjoy it there. Our food took about 15-20 minutes and then we took it home to enjoy. The portions are definitely fair for the price. They also pack everything well for the ride home. The gumbo is our favorite, it's flavorful and packed with protein like their sausage, chicken, and shrimp and has just a hint of spice. We tried their riblets for the first time and it was a generous portion and we really enjoyed the bbq sauce they used. The mac and cheese is good, but I like mine creamier. It does have a little spice which was nice. The dressing was packed with flavor and we were excited they offered this side because you don't see it everywhere. Their hot water cornbread is definitely something they're known for and is really good on its own or dipped into the gumbo. The Palmer here tastes like Brisk raspberry tea mixed with lemonade, and we really enjoy this twist on it. Overall this spot is a local gem and we love visiting.

One…read morecustomer was sitting at a table waiting for her order. It's a small, very interesting place! (I found this restaurant by accident on Google.) I decided to stand there and review the very clear appetizing menu, taking a moment to soak in this unusual eating spot. I enjoyed the uniqueness and creativity of the layout--you have to be here to understand it. Anyway, as I was standing there, I heard a very pleasant voice ask, "May I help you?" I reached up and turned up my "pretend" hearing aid to make sure I heard that voice coming from a professional Young Queen. It made me forget I was at a soul food establishment! Usually, I am greeted with rolling eyes, laziness, and--most of all--attitude. (See one of my old podcasts link below regarding my opinion on soul food restaurants on iHeartRadio): https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-the-david-mack-show-105280474/episode/lena-s-soul-food-in-oakland-ca-119449772/?cmp=android_share&sc=android_social_share&pr=false Back to my review: Her name is Victoria... like the Queen! I told Victoria I was looking at the menu, which has a very nice variety of soul food selections. Victoria asked me if I would like to sample the gumbo. Sure! Victoria came back with a small, teasing sample, and after tasting it, I told her, "SOLD!" Just from the taste of that gumbo, I knew my Mother's Spirit was back there doing the cooking. It was a very cold day, and I would have eaten there, but because of the layout, I ordered the family size to-go. The gumbo also comes with hot water cornbread. Victoria took my order, my payment, and advised me it would be ready in five minutes. I waited in my car. I came back in four minutes, and my order was already bagged and ready for pickup. I "suffered" during the hour-long drive home, smelling the aroma of that meal the whole way! Finally home, I opened the secure bag, filled to the top container, and took out the prize. The food presentation was excellent! I put the gumbo in a bowl, and it was still very hot. I then proceeded to taste my meal: Rice: Nice and fluffy! Chicken: Flavored perfectly. Soup Juice: Perfect. Prawns: Excellent. Sausage: Plump and sliced perfectly. All many other ingredients: Very tasty with a hint of spice. Note: There were no crab legs to make a mess (which I did NOT miss) and no slimy okra (which was great)! The sweet hot water cornbread was very buttery and looked like a thick pancake. I put mine in the toaster oven to warm it up and get it a little crisp. It was amazing! That gumbo not only warmed me up, but it also put me to sleep like a big baby! If this restaurant continues with the trajectory of this review (professional attitude, unique layout, and great menu items), they will be the "go-to" soul food spot on the 80! I wouldn't change a thing! I will return because I want to report on another food item I had my eye on before the gumbo sample! Go check out this spot and see the Young Queen Victoria! Make sure you tip her for great service (No Tax On Tips), just like I did! David Mack (Reviewer-in-Chief)

I hadn't been since last summer and was happy to return. Parking can be a bit hectic, but once you're inside, the atmosphere makes up for it. It's a family-owned spot, and you can feel it right away -- everyone is kind, welcoming, and takes the time to check in on you. We came for breakfast, but they also offer lunch and barbecue options, so there's plenty to choose from depending on when you go. They've also expanded and now have a location in Elk Grove. I ordered the French toast plate, which came with thick-cut slices of bread, eggs, and bacon. The French toast was soft on the inside with a nice golden finish, full of flavor without being overly sweet. The eggs were well seasoned, and the bacon was cooked just right. BB ordered the cheeseburger with fries and a side of grits. The burger was juicy with grilled onions and melted cheese, and the fries had that crispy, beer-battered texture. Everything came out hot and satisfying. Overall, a great spot for comfort food with genuinely friendly service. Definitely planning to come back -- especially for the biscuits and gravy next time.

I parked right in front, and saw they were cleaning up the dining room. So I asked the young lady if they were still open, and she said "Yes, c'mon in!" I ordered the fried chicken combo meal with mac 'n cheese and green beans. Total was $20.04. I thought it was funny that they price it at $20.04. It would actually look better if it was $19.99. How was the food? I was surprised. 35 mins before closing, and the fried chicken was still moist with a spicy heat to the flavor. The skin was lightly crisp. The mac 'n cheese was creamy. The green beans were just okay. The food was being kept in warmers. There's nothing wrong with keeping food in warmers as long as holding times are observed and proper temps are maintained. As I left both the young lady and the server thanked me for coming. Next time, I will have to return at around dinner time. Support Local Business in the SF Bay Area!
