This was not the case, it's a vibey dessert spot with fantastic options from ice cream, milkshakes, and donuts. The girl who served me was beyond patient and helpful as I was definitely overwhelmed from a Long Beach day and the bright colors inside, LOL. I opted for two scoops of their strawberry ice cream and it was delicious with real strawberry chunks! I will definitely be back as I've been told their donuts are outstanding. I also really enjoy that you pay by the scoop and not just for a generic size. Because sometimes a small or medium or large size is just too much ice cream.

Truly, the cocktails and menu at this restaurant are so inventive and flavor packed it feels as if there has to be something supernatural happening in the kitchen and behind the bar. We came here in early May and sat at the bar. Dillon took great care of us, walked us through the menu and made stellar recommendations all around. After having my mind blown by the Everything Bagel Martini, we moved on to share the charred octopus and Leggy's Thighs. The charred octopus was tender, and paired so well with the citrus fruits on this plate, plus the bite of pistachios?! So well put together. Leggy's thighs (RIP Leggy) were literally the best chicken I'd ever had, fall off the bone tender and topped off with flavorful furikake and hot pickled fresno chilis. We also split the Wagyu sando which I'm literally still thinking about. Wagyu on milkbread?! What an excellent idea. Live acoustic music was going on the night we were here which really added to the cozy ambiance. They also have trivia here on Thursdays (Dillon, if you're reading this, we hope your team wins the championship). 10/10 no notes. Come here if you can get a table.

Adventure Buddy and I were visiting Mystic, Connecticut, from out of town for a trade show, and…read moreafter enjoying dinner downtown, I found myself facing a familiar situation...I needed dessert. Naturally, our post-dinner walk turned into a search for something sweet, and that's when we stumbled upon Sift Bake Shop. Oh, hello there! We opened the door and immediately knew we'd found our dessert destination. The bakery was bright, welcoming and absolutely adorable, with display cases FULL of beautiful baked goods. I started smiling from ear to ear before we'd even gotten close enough to properly inspect everything. And then I saw what was inside those cases. Cookies. Cakes. Pastries. So many beautiful little creations practically begging me to take them home. Suddenly, we had a problem. I wanted everything. After several minutes of me staring lovingly at the desserts and attempting to make what felt like an impossible decision, Adventure Buddy gently reminded me that we were not, in fact, purchasing the entire bakery. RUDE. But admittedly, he had a point. I finally settled on the Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookie ($4.50), featuring two peanut butter cookies with peanut butter frosting sandwiched between them. Adventure Buddy selected the Opera Cake ($9.45), made with espresso-soaked almond sponge cake, chocolate ganache, coffee and hazelnut mousse. We ordered everything to go so we could take our treasures back to the hotel and enjoy a proper sweet-tooth nightcap. And THAT was an excellent decision. First up, my peanut butter sandwich cookie. As someone whose personality is approximately 63.8% peanut butter, I consider myself qualified to evaluate this particular dessert. IT. WAS. FANTASTIC. The cookies were wonderfully soft and chewy, with what seemed like a little oat texture mixed in. The peanut butter frosting was smooth, creamy, rich and perfectly peanut buttery. Everything worked beautifully together, and I was one very happy peanut butter enthusiast. Then I tried Adventure Buddy's Opera Cake. WOWZA! The layers of different textures were incredible! The espresso-soaked almond cake, creamy mousse and rich chocolate ganache came together beautifully. And that chocolate ganache?! To die for! I'm not usually someone who gravitates toward coffee-flavored desserts, but this was absolutely worth stealing a few bites of! What made this discovery even better was learning that Sift is a family-owned, French-focused bakery operated by Pastry Chef Adam Young, with everything made from scratch in-house. They offer everything from artisan breads and breakfast pastries to sweet and savory treats, so clearly we only scratched the surface of what they're creating. For about $14, Adventure Buddy and I enjoyed two fantastic desserts and turned an ordinary evening at our hotel into a delicious little date-night finale. We stumbled upon Sift completely by accident, and I'm SO glad we did! We'll absolutely be back the next time we're adventuring in Mystic because there were approximately 47 other things in those cases that I still need to try.

It was less than a 10-minute drive from where we were staying, and going there was the best decision! They were offering two lobster rolls for $41, and they were worth every penny. Each roll was generously filled with large chunks of fresh lobster, a little diced celery, and just the right amount of mayo. They weren't overly dressed or packed with unnecessary fillers--the lobster was definitely the star. One roll filled me up, so I packed the second one in a cooler and brought it home to my dad in Nassau County. He loved it and gave it a 5/5 too! They also sell baked goods, and the chocolate chip cookies were delicious. Just keep in mind that there is no seating and you cannot eat on the premises because it's an active driveway.
