I wish to make clear (hopefully) my experience with Phat Kat Guitars:…read more I paid quite a bit of money to have Phat Kat Guitars put together two Strats for me. I went to them because I thought they were and would deliver Master Craftsman level of work, but it was much less than that and they were not particularly honest about it. They messed up on drilling holes in the bodies but didn't say anything about it until I confronted them on it. That is, they presented the guitars to me in their shop as if everything was as it should be. Later they admitted that they had decided to pass bad work on to me. Apparently they have no quality control or pride in their work. However, they did rectify some of the bad work (mistakes) they did for me after I asked for my money back. They can do really good work, AND they can do really bad work (make mistakes). If you have them do anything, be sure to be very exact about what it is they're suppose to do and be very exact as to how it's suppose to be. What they did for me and to me was very negative and extraordinarily disappointing (and a really bad memory). Consequently, I'm selling, or giving away, or throwing away the parts of the two guitars they worked on for me. I DO NOT recommend them. They are NOT worth the drive IMO. And, what I'm sharing here is an honest account and a "buyer beware" for others. BTW, reviews and/or opinions by people that don't identify themselves are not worth anything IMO. These guitars have been around the world and in a lot of different studios and they always sound great- live and in studio. The set ups are perfect. He even did a super custom job moving a strap peg to the horn of my favorite semi hollow body. And just to boot: he's an awesome guy. If you need anything guitar related, don't use anyone else or you'll be sorry.

I…read morehad no idea what this guitar would sound or play like, so I gave Andrew a call (he answered and I got a quote and appointment set up within 5 minutes) I got there and asked him if I needed a setup, and instead of being un-transparent like other repair places, he tested the intonation and sound right in front of me so that I could hear if it was sounding right. He seemed pretty busy this week and told me it would be about a week's wait for my work to be done. Well, Andrew called me in HALF the time he said it would take to finish the job. He let me play it in his home to make sure everything worked okay. Well, holy cow, this guitar sounds and plays better than the Gibson Les Paul classic I hawked a year ago! She is able to adjust her teaching style based on the student's maturity level and interests. Neli is constantly pushing you to improve but in a patient and nurturing way. What impresses me every time is comparing where I start with a piece of music and where I end up. The understanding of the piece, the subtle refinement, and the growth that I experience with every piece of music is truly inspiring. She encourages her students to record themselves playing the same piece at different times to witness that growth, and that is amazing to see. Students can participate in two recitals a year and those recitals are so, so amazing to watch and speak to her talent to develop her students' talents. Many of her students go on to compete at various levels and regularly earn highest awards.
