Athena, who works in the lessons department, demonstrated a concerning lack of understanding in both customer service and contract policy. My son had been consistently taking one-hour lessons for over two years when the account was unexpectedly canceled--something she later described as a "misunderstanding" after speaking with someone else about placing a temporary hold. When she was unable to place the hold, she unilaterally canceled the account without notifying me, the person financially responsible for the lessons and his legal guardian. At no point did she reach out to inform me of this cancellation, nor did she explain that doing so would result in the loss of several hundred dollars' worth of lesson credits. I only discovered the account was closed when calling to reschedule a lesson for the second week in row without her calling back at this point I was then told by Athena that per policy, credits expire 30 days after account closure. However, how was I to know I needed to use these credits prior to the cancellation when she failed to disclose she cancelled the account. Athena promised to consult her manager and regional leadership regarding a possible resolution, but despite waiting over a month, I never received any follow-up from anyone at the company. Eventually, Athena called--not me, but my fiancé--to ask if my son was ready to resume lessons, which added to my frustration. I'm not a legal expert, but it seems highly questionable--if not improper--to cancel and attempt to restart a contractual agreement without direct consent from either the customer (my son) or his authorized legal representative (myself). This experience has raised serious concerns, and I will be filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more

I'm somewhat apprehensive about writing this review since I haven't completed my last lesson, but I'll do it anyway. I signed up for lessons in July, wasn't able to get a lesson till midAugust because the instructor wasn't available. It's now September and so far, I've paid for 3 months of lessons and have only had 3 1/2 hour lessons. Cancelled and told I only had 30 days to use the credit. When asked by Athena which days were good, I told her Saturdays were not. After scanning the appointments, she said "how's Saturday?" Reluctantly I've come in on Saturdays. So far this year, I have purchased 5 guitars here and I'm about ready to purchase another, but the lesson system is truly messed up. read more

Guitar lessons are a reasonable price and you learn the type of music that you prefer.

Recently my son purchased a new Gibson guitar online from this store. When it was received it was in TERRIBLE condition. (shipped from a warehouse in LA) It had scratches, attempted repair jobs, it was most likely a floor model. My son was pretty shooken up as he had spent all summer saving up for a nice $2k guitar and was really nervous about returning or getting money back. Our experience with Jason was 5 star. He kept us informed, offered a full refund with no condition we had to purchase again or only store credit. He also ordered a Martin D16 and inspected it weeks prior to us showing up to the store. We drove 2 hours to see the guitar and it was in perfect condition. He applied credit, left us alone in demo room to discuss it over (not pushy whatsoever) and by the time my son had made up his mind it was a done deal. Guitar Center is a joke. Needed ONE replacement tuning peg for an acoustic guitar im gifting someone. Called and gave the guitar model and was told they have a set for 30$. When I get there they wanted 100$ for a set plus another 50$ in labor to drill six new holes into the guitar. The guitar tech was borderline rude and condescending. I have never felt so judged, discriminated against and unwelcome at a place of business. I went to this guitar center today and was pleasantly surprised to see a sign on the door that said masks no longer required if fully vaccinated. Cool! In celebration of the return to society I took my mask off and walked inside. I was greated by the entire staff at the door, one of whom said, "Hi! Totally unsafe and insane! What can we help you with?" Of course I couldn't see who said it because he had a face mask on and they were all staring at me like I was some sort of pariah for following their own rules. But I will tell you what you can help me with. First, try not being a total d*** to your customers. It is generally a good company policy. Second, assuming that you are educated enough to read (and granted that's a big assumption) try reading the sign on your own f***ing door. I went home and called the store to talk to a manager. The person I got on the phone sounded like the same person that told me I was totally unsafe and insane. When I told him what happened he said "ok" and hung up. No apology or anything. The lack of professionalism and disrespect towards the customers that this store exhibits is truly astounding. read more

Typically I have lukewarm experiences with GC, but Siara & GM Jason brought back old school customer service and I'm here for it! I wanted to purchase a guitar sight unseen that only their store had in stock. A beautiful "Shell Pink" 75th Anniversary Strat. With only 1 photo online and very little info, I was on the fence so I called the store. I was immediately transferred to Siara who put me on a brief hold and check on the item. From there she gave me some more info and even offfered to take more photos of the item and e mail them to me for review. I had the photos in minutes. it was perfect and everything I wanted. Manager Jason called me shortly after I made my purchase to communicate a few more things and I had a shipping notification before the end of the day. I work in retail at a senior level and know that true customer service has gone to crap. These 2 did not disappoint and I wanted to commend them and give them some much needed props. Whoever is their DM should give them WAY MORE than a pizza party. Please shout them out for a job well done! read more

I was not impressed with the initial interaction when going into the store. There we're employees behind the counter not helping anyone and they didn't even say hello. I was with three other people one who was buying a few expensive items and he was looking around and was never asked if had any question. It wasn't until he asked if they had another guitar in the back that anyone helped. There was one employee who was helpful, I think his name was Jeremy. He had a lot of music knowledge and was all around helpful and a cool person. He was on the other side of the store, I wish we saw him when we first got there. My family is done a lot of business with this chain of stores both in person and online. I would expect a little more enthusiasm. Ordered a new Jackson Dinkey for my son online the day before Christmas Eve and had to drive from Fresno to the Visalia store because they had the guitar in stock for curbside pickup. Get there only to find out that my order had been cancelled because they could not locate the guitar in the store. The sales person was pretty apologetic saying that sometimes this happens because guitars get sold out of the store before online orders are fulfilled. I was bummed but I get it. So I asked him to see if there was another location that might have a guitar that was close by and he said that the computer showed that Bakersfield had one. Another hour drive further but I was willing to do it for the sake of having a guitar under the Christmas tree for my son. While I'm standing there talking to him my other son walks over to me and says hey dad the same guitar we're looking for is sitting in a stand with a for sale sign on it behind the repair desk. I told the sales person but he says that that guitar is a customers guitar and I said are you absolutely sure it has a for sale sign on it and he says yes it is already purchased and it is a customers guitar. The Sales person wrote down all the information on the guitar along with the phone number for the Bakersfield GC and I left. I thought maybe I should call the Bakersfield store before I drove down there so I tried three times and was put on hold for over seven minutes each call with the Bakersfield store only for them to finally tell me that they do not have the guitar in stock either. Good thing I called! So then I think OK maybe I'll just go in order the guitar from the Visalia store and have them ship it to me and unfortunately I won't have it for Christmas but at least I'll have it in a few days. I go back into the store to look for the original salesman I don't see him but low and behold the red dinky Jackson that was sitting behind the repair desk and was supposedly a customers guitar is now hanging on the wall for sale. In the 30 minutes that I had left the store they figured out that was probably my guitar that I had purchased online and figured out that it was not a customers guitar that was in there for repair but a guitar that should've been sold and sold to me. They had all my contact information yet they could not make a call to me to tell me they found my guitar and save me a trip to Bakersfield! Unbelievable. I grab the guitar off the hanger take it to the front desk purchase it by an extremely abrupt sales person who rings the guitar up and just hand it to me. No warranty no whammy bar nothing. I have to ask him for it and he says oh yeah goes on the back gets it only to find out on Christmas day that the whammy bar is missing the locking nut. I get that guitar center is a big box chain store but I tell you what when you buy from the local guitar stores around Fresno they polish the guitar and make sure that everything is operational and all the hardware is included before you walk out the door. Just because your big doesn't mean you have the right to blow off your customers. read more

Horrible place to shop, new managers same horrible service, most people who work there know very little about the product they are selling. Felix was the associate who helped me. Not only was he incredibly knowledgable when it came to guitars, he was really patient and great at listening to what I was looking for. He took the time to show me different styles, shapes, and sounds - he was patient enough to help me narrow it down to my two favorite - and then he backed off and let me have time to really think and make my decision. Ive been to many guitar centers, and visalias guitar center is amazing! I traded in my gibson accoustic guitar, and purchssed a 2018 gibson les paul studio deluxe limited edition. Jared and eric helped me out mostly and did a phenomenal job!! I bought a pack of BRAND NEW guitar strings and as soon as I put on the first string, it snapped. I brought my guitar back with the broken string still on and the manager Tim was nowhere to be seen. Actually, NO manager was on the floor. I waited for 30 minutes and as it turned out, he was busy with the OTHER manager punishing another employee for poor customer service or something. Go figure. Luckily the guitar tech helped me out. I didn't get a refund or exchange though. I would like that, but Guitar Center has a policy against exchanging faulty gear to meet the customers satisfaction. First time guitar owner and I had to return and exchange the first one I brought because I have small fingers and I brought one that was too big for me and so, I exchanged it to one that I handle better. Terrible. Returned products (in person) and never received my money back. (Credit). Waited two weeks for it to come thru. Called to resolve this issue and I was put on hold for an indefinite amount of time. The employee said, "Let me see if the operations manager is available". But after waiting over 10 minutes, I hung up and called back just for him to answer phone. Probably doing nothing, but picking his ass. I had to contact a Chase claims specialist to resolve this issue, thanks to them I was refunded my money. I don't even think they got the money from Guitar Center, they just agreed that there was some suspicious activities occurring and decided to give me the money that was stolen from me. I am not a new customer to this store but over the years it has definitely had it's up and downs. I went in recently and was greeted like always. I believe the employees name is Jeramy who is always knowledgeable and kind in the the guitar realm. But before and this day I was looking to buy a drumsets. Now I had no idea what to buy what was a good brand from a bad brand etc. I walked in and was greeted nicely by an employee that I've seen many times over the years. I know his name is Dillion because I asked him if his name sounded like the name Dylan Orin it was different. It was a name I had never heard before so I always remember it now. Anyways he was in the process of cleaning some cymbals and went on to to tell him that I was a beginner and wanted something not too expensive but not a piece of crap. This Guy new everything there is to know about drums and wen ended up talking for over 45 minutes before the deal was closed. From the type of wood, to the types of cymbals, and hardware he told me everything I needed to know. So after looking and discussing many options we settled on the fact that I felt like an electric drum-set would meet my needs the best. I could play it with my headphones or blast it with the amplifier I bought as well. I picked out the Alesis Nitro set and the Simmons DA50 amplifier. I wanted to do something nice for this young man who really seems to take his job seriously and you could tell his love for music and wanting to get the customer helped out to the best of his abilities. This was probably the best sales experience I have had at Guitar Center and I would like to thank Dillion because once I got home and set everything up I have not been able to get off of the set since. Its exactly the set for me and I will definitely in the future ask for Dillion fior assistance in drums from now on. I am a little shocked by this store. I'm assuming the personnel that know about guitars have all taken vacation? I called twice one to see about a tuner replacement and intonation set up and they said they would have to send my Les Paul to another technician and it would be about 2 weeks. I decided I didn't want to do that and declined. Called back a week later deciding I would just do the labor myself and wanted to purchase a new set of tuners. They kept putting me on hold and didn't really seem to know much. Hate to leave a bad review but I would hope they know more about guitars then me since I'm just an average guy who likes to play around.
