I had an excellent experience with Guitar Center this evening. I got a fair value on a Yamaha Clavinova that I traded in. This value, combined with a 10% discount on new equipment, caused me to walk out with a new keyboard, stand, bench and accessories significantly less than I would have paid elsewhere. I had the best experience ever buying a new Guitar yesterday from Doug at Guitar center. I was upgrading from my starter guitar (very cheap guitar) he took the time to show and play all the best candidates in my price range, including what he considered the best of the used guitars. I spent hours of his time discussing all the minute details of what would make me delighted. Playing and swapping to listen to the differences. He played the same song on each of the finalists for me as did a couple other guys to highlight each guitars strengths. After I made my selection of a beautiful Epiphone jumbo, he searched the back room, found an amazing case for it. Then he got to work on getting me the best price! Gave me top dollar for my old guitar, found every deal known to mankind, and frankly made me such a good deal on a two year warranty I better not say what or he might get into trouble. Then He set it up with new strings while I waited and we tested each small improvement. I played it last night at my pickers circle and everyone loved it ( I saw the envy in their eyes) and were blown away at the deal I got. Doug is nice, patient and knows his stuff. I came in to this store just to buy some picks and take a quick look around. I've been considering lessons here but not anymore. I legitimately did not see a sign on the door, or the masks at the front near the entrance. If someone at the front or even a cashier had told me to grab a mask and throw it on I would have been completely fine complying. I find my picks, and stand in line for nearly 10 minutes while waiting for the customer in front of me. No problem. I then make it to the cashier, still no word. Pay for my picks and while I am waiting for my change a young, confrontational employee goes to grab a mask for me after condescendingly telling me to put it on after he puts his hands all over it and when I tell him I'm on my way out he threatens to call the police, and tells the cashier to give me my money back while he is holding my change. Some words are said and I just ask for my change and want to quietly leave. At this point a scene is being made and I feel like an idiot on my way out and the cashier is wrapped up in all of this as well. He seemed like a pretty nice dude but the young man continues pushing this to the point of yelling as I am leaving. I understand following company policy and just doing their jobs, but this young man was extremely disrespectful, unprofessional and threatening. I've been in customer service for a long time and understand customers can be a pain. If I had been confronted from the very beginning I would have complied and put on a mask provided, but now I never want to step foot in this store again. I also would have been completely understanding if they said they could not take my money until I put on a mask, but waiting until I've already paid and am waiting for my change was pretty odd to me. Sorry for being "that guy" but maybe work on some customer service skills, guy. Reading other reviews this seems like a pretty common problem. Beware of Tyler Texas Guitar Center!!!! I care about other people that's why I'm posting this! No one deserves to be screwed over! I bought this guitar($2200 Vintage 1979 Martin D-35/see in the picture below)from guitar center Tyler and took it to 3 different professional guitar techs. They each told me: It needs a neck reset and had body separation! $500-$600 dollars for the reset and the separation couldn't be fixed! They each told me that I paid way to much for a guitar in this bad of shape. I returned the guitar and the guy in the store that inspects guitars said I was right it does have these issues. He was nice and the only one trying to make it right with me (that's actually the managers job not his). He then kind of got arrogant a little and played it off saying all Martins have to have neck resets. He says but he didn't know how he missed the neck separation when he brought it in! So this shows the manager Katie lied to me! I think it's funny the other day, when I was purchasing the guitar, Katie the manager said the guitar was checked by professionals at corporate and price was set by corporate before they sell it. Katie needs to be retrained on customer service because, her attitude sucks and she you try to talk to her it seems like she is not interested in speaking with customers at all! Matter of fact she seems like she is bothered by it and she seems arrogant. Overall, Everyone else in there really is friendly and helpful. When the guy doing the return had to go get Katie to help him with the return she didn't look at me or acknowledge that I was even there. That's not how you treat customers who constantly drop money in a store! Also when I was purchasing the guitar(keep in mind I also purchased another mixer at the same time $300!!!) I asked for a discount and Katie turned and asked the sales guy what he wanted to do because it was up to him. The discount that was given was a joke! I would also like to note there is an younger guy that works there that stands around behind the counter playing a mandolin as loud as he can when you are trying to check out or talk, it's rude and annoying! Someone from corporate needs to clean house at the Tyler Texas Guitar Center! This morning I went online and noticed it's back listed for sale! Purchased an item over the phone and they immediately charged my credit card. It never arrived. Drove to the store to try and pick it up. My nine year old daughter has taken guitar lessons here for nearly a year and we could not be more pleased! A lot of the credit goes to her instructor, Carol King - who is really a wonderful teacher and very patient, but I have also really appreciated Guitar Center's easy scheduling and efficient communication. Payment is also easy with autopay. They offer guitar, piano, voice, and drums - overall a great option for music lessons in south Tyler. read more

Store itself is fine but rude employees make me never want to come back :( will seriously drive to Dallas to avoid this one from now on.
