Answering the question to "What could improve? I've spent a lot of $$$ at Guitar Centers over the years, but I'm very disappointed in my experience at the Spokane store. There were two employees at the front counter when we came in. They didn't look up, didn't great us. We wandered around the store for about 10 minutes trying to find what we came in for, before an employee on his way to somewhere else casually greeted us as he walked by. I had just found one of my items. Then I had questions about trying to find The proper springs for my Hoffner B-Bass guitar. At that time, the only person around was at the front desk. He knew absolutely nothing about bass guitar strings-or Hoffners. And when he didn't know the answer, he told me that "Any of the strings would work"! This was completely unacceptable! I purchased a Spector NS Pulse II 5 String Bass Guitar online from them. Awesome instrument to begin with it the EMG in a couple of months was blown. I took it in to have it repaired and Aaron was absolutely amazing, he worked it out with Spector that it should be under warranty for parts, they honored that decision and once he got the parts rapidly replaced it and notified me it was ready. It is Post COVID in February of 2022, and most stores are experiencing low employment or people wanting to be in the customer service & face-to-face arena. Be ready to use patience over service at this location. This store location is clean, organized, and the presentation of instruments very appealing. Staff was willing to assist and answer questions. Now, let's move forward to the purchasing process. This is where the bottle-neck and staff availability definitely slims and will challenge most person's patience to accept the type of customers service like this: one person at cash register, same person needs to answer all questions, fetch accessories, tune instruments, and verify boxed items by reviewing UPC code to actual instrument being purchased. The cashier needs to wait to receive service from their manager, and the manager is still working with other customers to complete a sale. Whew, I am tired and frustrated writing this - and I was still impressed with the demeanor of staff personnel. It was one customer at a time. Never once did I feel ignored or rushed during my face time with the sales rep, and he did not show frustration when it was time to acquire accessories. If I could change anything, it would be to let the regional manager know the approach to bottle-necks in this store need attention. Well done!! Slacker-iffic employees just cost this store several thousand dollars! Went in here as my wife has been looking at buying a NICE full drum kit ($1,900-$5,000), and while a lifelong musician, she's a noob where drum kits are concerned. Employees really had nothing better to do than to jam out and help the odd customer who stood at the checkout counter for 5+ minutes, and "look busy" fiddling with the odd bit of inventory... We were completely ignored, not even greeted when entering. I know it's not "cool" to act motivated when trying to sell stuff in a "rock and roll" shop, but this verged on ridiculous. Oh well, their loss. If you want to get into an instrument that you're not super familiar with, or looking at making a purchase, you're better off looking elsewhere. read more

Caught a guy on his way to the back of the and asked him he pointed across the store and said if we have any they'd be over there. I wandered around until I found some used stuff, but not what I was looking for. Nobody else offered to help or even suggested purchasing online. These guys have great selection. Their prices are pretty competetive. Staff is pretty friendly. However, I grew up on the one location one owner kind of guitar shop, so I view this place the same way a lot of people look at Wal Mart. They are a chain. And while I have never had a problem with any staff at any location, some of them aren't very knowledgeable. Best bet, if you go to any Guitar Center, look for the oldest looking employee or you may not get good info. I also don't like how some brands are pushed harder than others, even if those brands aren't always "better". Custom shops know that guitar players like what they like, and you can't just push a brand on someone because the manufacurer gives you a bonus when you sell their stuff. I do like that there are so many different items to try out. They aren't very good at stockin niche items, like resonator guitars or pedal steel guitars. Those items don't move as quickly so I understand why, but I don't like it. Still and all, these guys do a good job and are worth checking out for most guitar stuff. read more

I was given a price for a pair of M-Audio monitors (listed as new) to be delivered in one week. After a week and a half, used, dirty, gouged monitors showed up without the original packaging with no prior notice that they would be used. The manager refused to do anything about it and said, "it wasn't his problem because another store sent them" even though I had ordered them through this store. The coward let his cashier handle the whole situation, too. Luckily the cashier was nice enough to let me immediately return them and use the money for a more expensive pair of monitors that I didn't want that cost twice as much and was very polite and apologetic. If I was more upset about it, I would've taken further action, but I decided to just take the upgraded monitors and leave it. I don't usually leave super negative reviews, but I can't endorse this place. People were waiting so long in line due to understaffing that they just walked out. read more

These guys are crooks. I bought an audio interface, turned out to be complete garbage. The product wouldn't even power up (after following setup instructions step-by-step exactly). When I went back to return it the employees were very dismissive and told me I was using the wrong driver. After extensive research into forums and the correct drivers, still no luck. Then when I went back to return it a second time, "Oops, past 45 days, looks like you're up a creek without a paddle" basically. For all the money I've spent at Guitar Center over the years, I expected a lot more. This is a real shame. From now on I'm going to buy straight from the manufacturer and wait for this big box store to fade with the rest. Horrible customer service, terrible products. read more

In general I like Guitar Center because I can get in and out and usually get some service help. Today however was a little crazy. It is the first time I walked in there and literally could not get anyone to sell me anything. So I stuck around about half an hour and then left. It was pretty busy which is good for the pandemic era, but man only person who talked to me was the guitar tech, who told me he send someone over in a while. So I purchased a guitar from Guitar Center, it was late at night probably about 1015 minutes before Close.. I did not take the brand new guitar out of the Box and check it before I left, big Mistake. Because when I got home and tried to play the guitar it sounded terrible , it was out of tune and the strings would hit the fretboard below my fingers because the neck was warped. So I took it back to the Guitar Center on the vision one day later and left it for their Guitar technician to look at. And when I went back in to get it the guitar tag said that that model of guitar almost all of them were screwed up and it was A5050 shot as to whether or not they could fix them, and mine was unfixable he said. So I went into a little room with all the acoustic guitars to go pick out a different one to exchange it for and while I was in there their manager came in and told me that it was my fault that the guitar was messed up and that they were not gonna return it or exchange it for me. I did nothing but take that guitar home try to play it put it back in the Box and brought it back within A-day of buying it but it was my fault that the guitar was f***** u* they said. As I said on Reddit, I wouldn't buy so much as a pick or a patch cable from Guitar Center ever again, even if I were 20 minutes late for a gig that was 40 miles away. I'd make do with a quarter and some bailing wire. This store is a true abomination. If you're new to musical instruments, beware, we're talking about the WalMart of music retailers here. Full disclosure: I used to work for this particular location, and I hated the store even then, but I still shopped there for a couple of years after I quit - mind you, only when I was desperate, though. Now, even desperation will not prompt me to cross the threshold of this vortex of soul-sucking mediocrity. The staff are not knowledgeable (and even if they are, they're paid in such a way that encourages them to maximize their profits and send the unsuspecting buyer home with products that line their own pockets rather than meet the customer's needs). The product selection is good, I guess, I'll give 'em that, and of course, the prices are going to be good (although if you're only after the best price, I'd recommend just buying online - you'll save yourself hours of wiping the ick off of your soul after you escape the premises). That's, I guess, why they would even deserve one star. Musicians, please, for the love of all that is pure and sanctimonious in music, go buy your gear from any of the local music stores in town - Hell, even Pawn 1 is better than this. Hoffman's... I like to go to this store when I need some gear or even if I just want to look around. They have a fairly large variety of instruments and other gear, and the size of their new building is perfect. I really like how they keep all their acoustic guitars in a climate-controlled room to keep the various woods in top condition. Their prices are pretty good, but keep in mind that they usually have a little wriggle room on many of the instruments, so the price on the tag isn't usually what you should pay. Generally about 10% off is what I would estimate. If you have any questions about the gear and what instrument would be best for your needs, the staff seems very knowledgeable and helpful. I am only giving it four stars because they don't include the great guitar inspection you get from Sweetwater, plus their selection, while fairly large, could use a slight boost to include some more. read more

Over the last few years, I would say that I have spent probably tens of thousands of dollars at this store. I have never had a issue with this store until yesterday. I recently spent $1900 at the Spokane Guitar Center, but had something happen that was an emergency, needed more funds, and needed to return a guitar that was $449, that I had just boughten with cash. At first Savannah couldn't find the transaction. Then said that it didn't exist, and that I didn't buy the guitar there. I argued the fact that surely, it was boughten at this store, and the transaction, did in fact exist. Eventually she was able to find the item in my purchase history. I needed the cash in hand from the refund, which was the way I had originally paid. She would not refund me the cash or return the item. It was within the 45-day return policy limit, and the guitar was in perfect condition, same as boughten. Then she mentioned I could do it for a store credit. I was highly disappointed in the customer service I received, and actually told her that I wouldn't ever be shopping at this store in the future, for anything, if they cannot uphold to their end on their return policy. I am never one to leave a review, especially a bad one. This was something that really shook me though, truly. This is because the guitar i had bought 5 days prior, I actually had to go up the street and pawn it for $150, not even close to its worth. I have paid my Guitar Center Credit card dutifully and timely. Have had a zero balance for 3 months and yesterday we get a letter in the mail saying they are closing our acoount. My wife and I will make sure everyone we work with at the Veterans Medical Center and Spokane Public Schools (the 2nd largest school district in the state of Washington) will know what BS you have pulled and we will advise them to Never shop at Guitar Center or get another card through Synchrony. read more

First of all I actually live in Coeur d' Alene and not in the area so I have to think it is worth it to take the time and gas to go 50 plus miles to shop someplace in another town. Guitar Center is worth it. Easily the best prices of any music shop I've visited and selection is excellent as is customer service. Brian is the guy I've always dealt with and is very knowledgeable about their inventory and loves to help you find a good deal and makes sure you know about warranties, financing options, best and worst accessories,etc. Got a limited edition Les Paul (Epiphone brand) and amp for a great price and had the option to return it for a whopping 45 days! Amazing return policy. At my local shop there is no returns on guitars, amps, or cases. Overall a great experience. I take the time to go there for a all my music needs. read more

As an experienced guitar, piano, and guitar technician I find this place has much potential, as i've been to guitar centers in other cities with much MUCH friendlier staff. Essentially going in there I was accosted by rude early 20 something, workers that would neither leave you alone, or knew what they were talking about. My first visit to the store was a few weeks ago. I was looking for a good guitar. I walked in and was asked if I needed help. I said no and was told to look around and enjoy my visit. That I did. I went to the acoustic guitar room and tried different guitars for several hours. Others came and went as I searched for my guitar. Everyone was helped when needed and left to explore as desired. We own a business and spend a lot of money here regularly. Aside from James (who is awesome!), customer service is awful here! I have been in 4 times in the past two weeks, knowing exactly what I needed on the way in, and have waited 20-35 minutes just for someone to check me out. Waste of time. Went in there looking to sell a speaker and a mixer. Warren in "pro audio" wasted an hour of our time. He spent the time to hook up the mixer only to say due to what kind it was they wouldn't be interested. So he wasted 45 minutes hooking it up while he sang and danced away in no particular rush. He knew exactly what the mixer was and knew they wouldn't buy it but still wasted the time to hook it up. For the speaker he said they would normally sell it used for about $75 and they would offer about half which was $35 Some time went but and then $35 turned into $25 because it had some scratches which were obvious when he first looked at it.Total waste of time. If you see Warren singing and dancing ask for someone else or take your business elsewhere. read more

After reading the reviews, I was hesitant to go in but I needed a guitar stand and it appeared that Guitar Center had the best in-store selection. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by Matthew who, when I told him what I was looking for, took me over to the selection of stands and helped me pick out one that suited my needs. He could have sold me the most expensive one (this was a gift and I know very little about guitars) but instead, he asked me questions and suggested one that appropriate for what I was looking for. He was friendly, knowledgeable and rung up my purchase efficiently. My entire time in the store from start to finish was less than 15 minutes but I felt valued and will definitely be bringing my business back. As I left, another gentleman thanked me for coming in. It's been awhile since I've been in any Guitar Center, so this review of the Spokane, WA store and their .com site is a little late... I brought my latest guitar purchase, a 2012 American Fender Stratocaster, in for a complete setup. I bought a new set of bridge saddles and fully expected the setup to match my '91 Strat action, which is like buttah. Sadly, when I got my guitar home, over $100 and 200 miles later, I found that the action was too high for my preference and the intonation was a bit off. I don't know if it was because they re-strung my baby with some lame-o, bulk-bin 9's when I use 11's, but the action felt like a cheap, yard sale acoustic. They put the 9's on because they wanted to charge extra for my preferred brand and gague of strings, as they seem to charge extra for EVERYTHING. Ultimately, I set up the action myself and adjusted the intonation so that I could actually play my Strat comfortably and in tune. I called the store to express my dissatisfaction and their only solution was for me to drive another 200 mile roud trip so they could try and hack at it again. NO WAY!! I, sadly, made another mistake of buying a used amplifer on line from Guitar Center a couple weeks ago, I bought a Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 100 head from their store in Austin, TX. The ad had a really nice photo of the front of the amp, but that was all. When I spoke to the sales rep, Matthew Adams, he made no mention of any other issues. Well, when the amp arrived, it had no footswitch, the back panel that protects the tubes was missing and there was a broken EL34 power tube. SERIOUSLY?! After I left a few unanswered email and voice messages with Matthew Adams, I called the store in Austin and Tyler was nice enough to send me a pair of new tubes, which should arrive tommorow. However, from the time I received the amp until today, which is nearly a week, I have an $800 "brick" sitting in my bedroom. I was able to find a back panel for $50 at Mojotone.com and a $100 footswitch from Reverb.com. I only hope that once I get the replacement tubes installed, this amp works like it's supposed to. Needless to say, I will be taking my business back to Sweetwater.com, where I've been treated with fairness, honesty, respect, and much better prices. Live and learn, I guess. read more

I have always gotten an answer and learned much from the staff here, especially James in Pro Audio. And, the few times I've needed an adjustment, Aaron has been more than fair. I've shopped other stores in town and don't have any issues. But, somehow Guitar Center gets at least 80% of my business. First off I am not a young inexperienced musician. I've been in the music game since the 60's and have been in and out of many music store over the course of some 50 years. Every time I have called to or come into this store I have been treated with the greatest respect both by sells reps and the management. On two different occasions I bought equipment through the Guitar Center(different stores) and had an issue with the equipment sent to me. I called the Spokane store and they resolved the issues immediately-no questions asked. A speaker in a cab that was bad was re-coned at no expense to me and an amp that needed some minor repairs was repaired at my local shop and paid for by Guitar Center. I will continue to do business with these people and praise them for their outstanding assistance and customer service. Bravo, keep up the great work. read more
