I was in the market for a guitar for my boyfriends Christmas present and the folks here were really helpful. I went into the store a number of times and they even helped me find the perfect guitar on their website. When I was caught in the middle of a shipping fiasco with the devil, I mean UPS, they did everything in their power to get me the guitar and called me almost hourly with updates. Again, worst service. I haven't shop there in about a year, due to the poor service. I went in today thinking it might have improved, it hasn't. I bought a guitar at the Sherman oaks store 2 weeks ago and was treated well. I think it's the management at the Oxnard store, just horrifble. when I went up to the pedals counter the guy looked away, I waited and finally was ask if I could be helped, it took awhile. In Sherman oaks they walk the floor looking to answer questions, in Oxnard they stay behind counters and look the other way when approached. So I left the store and bought nothing. Just purchased a used 2009 very "Custom Red PRS" on layaway from this store. Used my "Guitar Center Gear Credit Card." No interest as long as paid off on 6, 12, 18, or 36 months. Great way to "Finance my Guitar Collection." Really enjoyed working with Seth- Customer Service Rep, as well as Ryan, and Paul in sale Awesome Service and help, and really caring about their customers. I went here knowing very little about my husband's guitar and what it needed, but the staff here went above and beyond to help me out and make me feel comfortable. I even learned a few things about guitars. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars this time is because they didn't have exactly what I needed, as it's a smaller store, but they did call up another store to see if they had it and sent me there. This Guitar Center SUCKS!!! They had an item in stock that I received a promo email on. I'm a regular customer of the Russell Ranch road location so I'm constantly receiving special offers and coupons. After 20 minutes of them trying to figure out how to give me the sale price on a couple pair of drum sticks they said "we don't have any in stock" so I put them back on the shelf and walked out. If they didn't have them in stock why was I holding them in my hand? If you don't know how to do something ask your manager. read more

I've been to other locations but this place by far is the most friendly. Plenty of staff to assist and greet you with excitement and appreciation. Came in to purchase a guitar for my daughter and they made the process easy. If one of them couldn't answer your questions, they'll find another staff who could to assure your satisfaction. Even got a jam session during the process. The staff are not just employees but musicians so they know their stuff. Can't argue with that. read more

I had bought a used mic that needed to be held on layaway. Once it was able to be released, I came into the store, and they lost it! It's been 45 minutes, I'm actually still in the store writing this review since I have some time to kill. And now I'll be late to rehearsal.. Thanks for all your "service", GC! Staff needs a HUGE organizational overhaul. I also overheard the manager chew out an employee (Kyle, who was actually the only virtually helpful one out of the bunch) about going on his lunch, asked him to take it short when he was already 5 minutes into it.. The town I live in doesn't have much in the way of music stores so I took the two hour trip on Saturday (8/27) to the Oxnard Guitar Center. I had checked their website and they showed that they had the item I was looking for in stock. When I arrived I looked around and didn't see the item on the floor but, in a short time, Jennifer, the sales rep had one sitting on the counter ready to go. While I was there I decided to get some PA gear as well. Again, Jennifer was able to get everything I was looking for. I normally buy gear online since I have no local shop to go to but a recent purchase online that I ended up returning at a significant shipping cost, led me to try out Guitar Center. I'm very glad I did. I'll be making future purchases here. Besides, when it comes to music gear, it's nice to get hands on a piece of gear before buying it and the staff that helped me were very helpful and friendly. Thanks! read more

Went back and bought a new bass that came in via UPS. Because of their website, I tracked my order and was aware when it was delivered. Went in there to get it, waited around for 20 minutes for them to figure it out. After 4 people couldn't figure it out. I finally get it. The guy rips it open and tosses it on the floor of the accessories department when there was 2 customers trying to get to the register! So I'm hurrying to gather my new bass that the dumb fuck "manager" put on the ground and opened up so no one could walk around. Basically booted me out with no thanks or anything. It was like I was inconveniencing them from doing nothing. Anyhow, the guitar sucks, don't buy a thunderbird unless you like really shitty balanced setups. I took it back 2 days later and come to find out that they never received the guitar into their system after I picked it up! So i guess I could have gotten a free Bass out of this deal, but I didn't. The cashier said that the money would go back in my debit card in a day, and its now been 3 days and no deposit. Funny how any other store you go to with a return, puts your money back on your card IMMEDIATELY! Somehow Guitar Center doesn't DO what the rest of retail business does. Fucking thieves are making money in interest off of your money while they tie it up for "standard return policies" Bullshit!!!!!!!!! Basically Guitar Center is the most mismanaged, horribly marketed, overpriced waste of time and money I have ever had the displeasure of shopping. Save your time AND money and just get your accessories on Amazon, and if you know how to use Ebay, that's a great place to get good deals and fast shipping. Basically, I'm NEVER going to set foot in another Guitar Center ever. read more

Good customer service. I was greeted upon entering and then was asked if I needed any help.

The service at this place inspired me to open my own business. They showed me exactly what not to do. I was actually in the market for a Roland electronic drum set and they didn't have any more of a model they had on display. First they said they couldn't sell me the display because they still are going to carry that model, but their shipment would not arrive for who knows how long. Then they said (2 drum shop guys and i think the manager or shift supervisor of something) I could take home the display model with a 10% discount but when the new stock arrived, I would have to trade back the display with a new one. They said they would come to my house to pick it up and set it up, but the new set would not be discounted the 10% because it's new and I would have to pay extra for them coming to my house to do all this! What the! ...ha. Absolutely not. Not only did they not know how to sell anything, they didn't know about the product(s), nor did they seem to care at all. And this one guy claims he was some bad dude that was a Marine. I've been in the Navy for 13 years... I see how he didn't make it past his first term. Not the brightest and very cocky. When I was trying the set out and finished, he began to attempt to tell me about it and also how much it sucks to work their because he has to hear people play the same thing over and over. Guess what he played. Exactly what I just played! AND began to talk more crap about the beats he "has to deal with" hearing all the time. Hey, good for you. You must be some great drummer. Get over it, you work at a music store. He may as well just told me I suck to my face. Anyway, I'm not trying to show off, I'm testing the set out. If you don't like customers, find another job. This is my first review I've given on Yelp. Unfortunately it is a bad one. I went into Guitar Center knowing exactly what I wanted. Some DJ equipment. Specifically a DDJ-RR by Pioneer. They did not have it in stock but said it would be super easy to just order and send it to my house in Santa Barbara. The lady working was training and was taking some time to complete the order which I didn't mind at all. Once I got the receipt I noticed the shipping was to their warehouse in Oxnard...not to my house. Next thing I know I'm there for another 30 minutes of them trying to cancel this order and do a new one. After 30 minutes the lady says I can take off and she'd call me once its handled. I leave. Never receive a call. Ended up calling back the next day. They never placed the order. Spend another 45 minutes placing this order. Making double sure that it was sent to my house. I find out last night that my fucking order is cancelled ONCE again FOr FUCK knows why. So overall I've wasted about 3-4 hours of my life with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in exchange! Thanks Guitar Center and pathetically incompetent workers you fucking suck. read more

Great place if you need anything electrical like keyboards mixers whatever they have it. When I went to pay they said that they do give military discounts. However me being retired with the military card they would not accept that. They said you have to be active. A little discouraging that they do not except those who have served before. read more

I've been here a few times with my dad to fix his guitar and to buy a new guitar and for guitar strings, and I don't know what else to say except that there is excellent service. The employees are very kind and have even been very patient with us when they are very busy or when they are close to closing time. Terrible Customer Service! It was difficult finding help and even when I got help the sales persons Jan and Jerry admitted to not being trained in the merchandise! When I went to buy the keyboard I had selected, the wrong keyboard was sold to me. I did not discover the error until I had brought the keyboard home and opened the box. When I called the Center to explain the error the salesman "Jerry" kept denying that he had provided the wrong keyboard. What a hassle, I have never before experienced such unwillingness to take responsibility for a sales error. I would suggest trying a different store. read more

I am giving two stars because I hadn't had an issue before this time, but I don't know if management changed, but this time the Customer Service was horrible, and not from the regular clerk, she was good, but from the manager. I wanted to buy an electric guitar for my boy and found one on floor, good price, with discount. When I was going to pay, asked if they were going to give me a new one and not the one of the floor, when she went to look for one she couldn't find one in the back, that was the last one. I asked her if I was going to get a small discount because of that. She asked the manager and he said no. The guitar had a small dint on the back, and of course it wasn't clean, since it was on floor. The manager said he didn't think that was enough to make a discount. He offered to look for a new one in another store and have shipped. I told him I needed it for this Saturday (it was Monday) and if the guitar was not going to make it on time, I rather looked somewhere else. Since the clerk found one in California, she said it would be no problem to have before Saturday. I was very specific I needed it no later than Friday afternoon, so I could go pick it up. They took forever to do all the process to finally made the purchase. I got an email today from UPS and it states the store would get it on Friday at the end of the day, that it was shipped from Kansas!!!...how did this happen?, how did it get shipped from Kansas if the store clerk had told me they were going to ship it from California?! That means I would not be able to pick it up before my son's birthday party...thank you Guitar Center! I am so angry, I should have bought it from Amazon, it was cheaper and their deliveries are always on time! read more

Wow, this place is huge and has a great selection of guitars and keyboards. The people in the store are extremely helpful and knowledgable. We had to bring back a guitar case and that exchange went without any issues. Their service department is efficient: I brought my guitar in to be re-strung and they fit me in without an appointment...the place rocks ! read more

I usually come here to buy all my instrument equipment. Today I went to see if someone could repair a bass that I purchased there. It literally stopped working. So I am there and they tell me the repair person is not there to come back in an hour. I come back the guy is still not there, but was told he might be running late, so I wait. Walking around a sales person comes and asks me if I need help I tell them what I am there for and he tells me I saw him walk in to just give him a minute to put his stuff away. I sit down to wait and it is now 30 minutes. Another guy that originally helped me came up to me and told me he wasn't coming so I told him I was waiting for him because someone told me he was here. He continues to help another gentlemen. A couple of minutes go buy a gentlemen walks in asking for the repair guy to the guy that told me he wasn't coming. He picks up the phone and calls him all the while I have been sitting there waiting. I grab my bass from behind the counter and I told him I was leaving and he says "ok sweet dude" like he doesn't care. This store is horrible all the sales people I saw were just there to ring people up not to help anyone. read more

To much turnover to much pressure on employees to make their base pay in commission percentage before they make any actual commission. To much competition from within from their own online business and online competition. It's a great place to go and try stuff out to later purchase online it seems. It isn't kept up the employees are jaded the carpet is dirty and most of the guitars they sell are overproduced and lose value the second you walk out the door with them. Sorry gc Oxnard had one to many terrible experiences with staff. I hate going into this particular store. The location sucks. The staff always changes and there is way better places in the county. My favorite is guitar planet. After my last dealing with the "luthier" inquiring about a Gibson guitar I had purchased at that very store I boycotted this store. He was later fired but they had already lost me as a customer..For life. read more
