Let's face it... We do not show much love to Guitar Center stores anymore. We buy online. We trust random people in random forums. We hate waiting for anything nowadays. We also hate waiting for a response that takes more than a second. Guitar Center was the place to go to before the online abundance became a thing. I feel like the people working at Guitar Centers are tired of running around and fetching things for everyone that shows attitude because they had to go to a store to pick up whatever Amazon did not deliver fast enough. I miss going there to try instruments. I still buy from them and say a good word to them while I'm there. It catches them off guard since they probably don't hear nice things anymore. I have patience I Guess. Even on bad days people come around when you start a good conversation. I hope you get more hands on deck soon read more

It's so hard to find a guitar center near us which got us so excited to see one in Blackstone Valley. My husband has been looking for a string winder where his guitars for a very long time so you could put new strings on. The humidifier room filled with acoustic guitars was a haven for my husband. He was like a little kid in a candy store. They have a large selection of both electric and acoustic guitars as well as drums and piano's. This is definitely a place to just come and check out what they got which also includes a variety of new and used instruments. I quite enjoyed the musical stylings of one of the employees playing the keyboard to the tune of Rugrats. read more

Horrible Customer service here. I was looking at cases trying to figure out what my bass would fit well in using a bass off the wall as a proxy, but they all seemed to be too small. Three employees stood in the corner and never offered to help me or any other customers. As I was opening a case, I overheard one of them say "Look at this guy, there's no way he will get it to fit in there" and realized they were making fun of me. I looked directly at them for 30sec or so, trying to give them an opportunity to either apologize or offer to help. They avoided eye contact. I just stopped shopping because I didn't feel like having to talk with someone so rude and inconsiderate. Not my first bad experience at this location either. Shop elsewhere. read more

If you're looking to damage your instrument while having routine maintenance performed this is your place. Dropped off my bass for a setup. Wasn't done at promised time (a whole week) so they had someone other than the regular tech do a piss poor job. Upon inspection they cracked the nut and damaged the finish around the truss rod access hole in the headstock. Larry the manager's response? "We didn't do anything that would have caused that." So apparently the setup didn't include the standard changing of strings and truss rod adjustments which is EXACTLY what you did to cause this damage. Screw this place and shop local instead. This is a chain that needs to go out of business. read more

What a Trainwreck of a music store. The customer service is just awful. I needed a potentiometer but couldn't tell by the packaging if it would fit my guitar. I needed metric. So of course the lump of laziness that passes for a manager said sorry they can't open the package to confirm. I explained that it would be fine. It's a guitar part and would not be an issue if it was opened. These need soldering so it would be obvious it wasn't used and besides that ... It was a 6 dollar part and they had several. Long story short, I was respectful as much as the situation warranted. Said fine. Let's open the package, threw 6 bucks on the counter, compared it to the existing, it didn't fit, and walked out. Hey Guitar Center, enjoy that 6 bucks of pure profit cause that's the last dollar I ever spent at your store. edit: thanks Guitar Center for the offer. What's done is done. But you have an opportunity to make sure something similar doesn't happen to the next customer. I was told it's against store policy. That might be true but common sense and generally friendliness was just not happening. The "manager" didn't even say hi to me and chose to communicate with me through his sales associate. I stopped in here recently to purchase a specific item as a gift for a relative. I needed help (I have never been to a Guitar Center before, and had absolutely no idea where to start), and finding someone able to help me was very difficult. Everyone at the main checkout desk seemed to pretend to be doing something, and while difficult to accurately explain for the purpose of the readers of this review, it was just difficult to actually get help. I felt like I was bothering them since that is the attitude they played off. I was able to get what I needed, but checkout took forever, they seemed to have so much trouble with everything even though there were very few other customers around. And continued to keep trying to explain why I absolutely had to purchase a warranty on the item. Store was very clean, organized and full of merchandise, and I will say that I like the way they have designed it. But the execution of what specific jobs that staff have here is something that should be reviewed. Not all that happy with my experience here, and wonder if it would have been similar at the Natick location. 2 stars for now. Not impressed and even though I haven't been there, I would suggest going to the Natick location before coming here (and saying that, I haven't even been there!). 2 stars, merely for the fact that this place is well decorated, well stocked and that the parking isn't nearly as horrible as nearly the rest of the Shoppes @ Blackstone. 2 stars. read more

I had a really awesome experience here last night while picking out a used amp. Normally I do not enjoy going to music shops. I find the service to be un-personal and snobby. Not here last night though. Mike was awesome! He came over and gave me some very interesting points on the Blackstar 60HT I came to test out. Apparently fascinated by my lefty Gretsch Jet he not only had to play it himself, which he shredded even upside down, but he took the time to make a few adjustments to be sure I was getting the most out of it. Mind you, I did not buy this guitar from GC, he just took time to work on it for fun. The new tone it products is very inline with the reason I bought a Gretsch in the first place. After all this I could not say no to the Blackstar. The deal was too good and we had a blast cranking it in the store. Even after pretty much committing to the deal Mike still took me around to other amps to show me differences to be sure I was getting the best fit for my needs. We even dimed a vintage Gretsch tube amp and slapped on screamer to see what it would do. So much fun. If I stayed another 10 min I probably would have bought this amp too. This being my first tube purchase Mike gave me a run down on all the ins and outs of valve ownership. Told me to call him at the store if I had any more questions. I've never been more happy to plop down $600 for anything. I left with a big smile and will stop in again next time I'm in the area. read more

For Guitar Centers this one is one of the best if you find the right help. Chaz, who I believe is the manager, knows his stuff and can get you in touch with the right people if he doesn't have an answer for what you are looking for. The previous negative comment touched on the fact that the help at guitar center is poor and that they hire young kids. It can be true but at the same time cut them some slack. It is a retail store and the majority of people that go in don't know a thing about music and are looking for a "first guitar" etc. For the people just starting out they don't need a professional musician helping them. The pro audio section has good staff and as long as you go in during the week days you will be fine. A general rule of thumb is to stay away from stores like this on the weekend. Friday nights, Saturdays, and Sundays are when the stores get swamped with teenagers wanted to jam out on instruments and when they call in their "inexperienced" staff. I bought the most expensive mixing headphones they offer less than a year ago and they don't work today. I went hoping guitar center would either repair them or give me a new pair or a discount on a new pair. There was a girl behind the counter who was super friendly and understanding, but the manager was a BIG phony. I was talking to him about buying ANOTHER set of the most expensive ones at full retail price when he just walked away and helped someone buy a keyboard and amp. He said he would give the person a deal. I waited like 20 minutes thinking he was just busy and would get back to helping me. And mind you, I needed assistance at this point because the expensive headphones are locked up. When the manager came over I asked him if there was anything he could do, especially because this headphone specifically has a tag that advertises a 2yr warranty - and the other lower end headphones don't advertise that warranty. So I asked him, do the other headphones have manufactures warranty? He said "I don't know I'm not the manufacturer" he was snide and shrugged me off saying "Okayyy" and told me I'd have to go through the manufacturer. I said well I need headphones. He said "Okayyy" very much like he didn't care at all. I said "You're the manager?" and needless to say I didn't buy a new set of headphones from them even though I told him that's what I was looking to do. Great job basically turning away guaranteed business. I hope this is incidental to this one situation and/or guitar center because I literally heard the manager do a "deal" on something right in front of me and then tell me he couldn't do a deal for me because that's "not how they typically do business". Took my Martin acoustic here recently for repairs, the face had become unglued at the bottom. Should be relatively straight forward repair. Some wood glue and a couple of c-clamps, none of which I have so I figured they would. After waiting around 10 minutes for a gentleman named Ricky, he was unavailable. The person up front barely took a look at my guitar and then informed me they will not repair it and suggested I buy a brand new guitar instead. I actually planned on doing just that regardless after the holidays as a little present for myself. Thank you guitar center for helping me to narrow down where my money will be spent. Not at your store. Over the past 17 years I've spent thousands of dollars at various Guitar Centers. Never had a bad experience so I guess I just expected more out of them. My mistake, will not be making it again. We guitar players become very attached to our instruments and it's not like this is some piece of garbage beginner guitar. It's a $2k Martin. I'm giving 2 stars since they've always been good to me, but the way this was handled was especially egregious. UPDATE: thank you for the response, I have emailed the address you posted as suggested. UPDATE #2: after emailing the address suggested in the Yelp response below I eventually got a phone call from the store manager. I've bumped my review up to 3 starts. Ever since I walked out of the store that day Guitar Center has been nothing short of professional, understanding and accommodating. I Just had a great experience with Steve from the drum department. He was able to put together a bundle of new cymbals and stands for me that were the perfect compliment for my existing drum kit. He also assisted in re-tuning a couple of drums with new heads that I had just purchased after I had explained to him that I could not tune a drum o save my life! read more

It's a good thing that the name brand equipment speaks for itself because the staff (not all but most) adds absolutely nothing. This place right here! Though your GPS will never get you here (it's in the Target/Blackstone Cinema plaza) it is well worth the trip! The staff keeps getting better, most of the time, and it's not as cluttered as it used to be. The guitars they have are great and their ability to get something not in stock is awesome. As a company, I enjoy their locations and inventory. However, the customer service I received at this particular site for the past two days was just awful. The associates made me feel like I was such a bother. They made me feel like I was an annoying task. When I refused to buy the "pro-coverage", the associate asked me "Why?" and continued to badger me about it. Another associate who works in the sound area, Bill, was a miserable jerk. It could have been a bad day, but that is no excuse to treat customers like trash. Find another line of work if you're so unhappy. Again, Guitar Center is a great place to shop for equipment/gear. But this particular location needs to work on the customer service. Dave, the store manager, was very friendly and focused on helping me. THE BAD: Most of the staff doesen't know a thing. Kids are too young and don't know a difference between a Les Paul Custom and a Les Paul Junior. Im only 21 and im a music freak, it just disgust me when someone who works in a music store doesen't know a thing about anything. They don't sell used hardcases. The hours suck. They don't open early, and they close early. THE GOOD: Easy to get to, parking is great. The manager like said below is a cool dude. I usually go for him or the old guy, they know there stuff and are cool to talk to. A huge selection, a wall of guitars. I wish they would carry more used stuff. Prices are what they are, usually cheaper or the same as anywhere else. I can't speak for keyboards stuff, I know they have a whole room with that stuff and boards ect, alot of stuff. I go and buy stuff once or twice a month, and sometimes just go for the ride to test something out and see whats new. If you need help ask the old guy, big guy or Chaz. The chicks and other young guys don't know a thing, they belong in a drive thru not working with gear. Rock ON!! read more

Not all guitar centers are alike...this location in Millbury is one of the worst. I went there during the first two years that it opened. Being relatively new, I would figure they would be bending over to please customers...but no. I was looking for a small combo amp. I tried a used Peavey Bandit, a B-52 (which had a blown speaker), A line 6 spidervalve (that someone programmed to have every channel at max volume. You would turn it on, it would be deafingly loud, so you turn down the volume...switch to another preset, loud as hell again), and a Vox Valtronix. Before I get to the amp I settled on, I need to talk about the guitars. I pulled a new American Strat off the rack. The action was sky high with an extreme bow to the neck. As soon as I bent the top string...SNAP! Upon further inspection, there was only enough string to fit into the tuner with a minimal wrap...like someone got the most mileage out of a string they broke on another guitar. So I pulled a mid range Laguna off the shelf...it played nice, except the pickup switch was sunk into the body and the pots were loose. Next stop, a 1000+ dollar ibanez prestige. GO to play it, and the trem is set back to the point that the strings are against the frets. A 1200 dollar guitar. Finally I found an Epiphone Les Paul that was playable and tried out the amps. I settled on the Vox. I immediately asked if we could work on the price, and I was told that 'we don't haggle on price anymore'...fine. Except that some guy came in, tried out a Line 6 spider and decided to buy it. He was dealing with another salesman and I overheard him haggling the price with ANOTHER sales person....AND HE GOT A BETTER PRICE. At this point I asked the guy I was dealing with (in front of the person getting the 'deal'...[I may have screwed it up for him]) why I was unable to haggle but this guy could. Shoulders shrug. At that point I got into detail about the three guitars I tried and their issues, and his response was 'we get them in this way'. Are you kidding? He just admitted that they don't do a basic set up on guitars? They don't fix switches that fall into the body? I laughed, told them that they were a joke and left. Maybe they improved since then? I don't know. After their total lack of competency and the arrogance of not having their instruments in playable condition, I haven't been compelled to go back there. Brian D., I get where you are coming from. I try to support local shops, but the good ones are disappearing and the only ones left make money on lessons and selling student level guitars. About the only decent local shop in this area is Union Music, and even their selection is limited. read more

Love spending time looking through the stuff at Guitar Center. The one at Blackstone Valley mall is newer one. My son plays guitar and spent a lot of time here before he left for college. Its his first choice of places to go to check out instruments. Now I go frequently looking for audio equipment for my hobbies. Sometimes at weekends it can take awhile to get a hold of help so I go early or late. Great place to browse if you love the music atmosphere. read more

I really want to elaborate on my view of Guitar Center as a whole, as opposed to just this location. Simple things take forever at Guitar Center. What should normally be a 30 second transaction such as buying a pack of strings or picks always ends up taking 10 minutes or more. Really, how is that even fucking possible...? Be warned, even if you have the thought beforehand that "I'm just gonna get in and out!".....you're not. You will somehow get stuck in the store for an absurd amount of time, even for simple sales. It's fucking ridiculous. The employees pretty much ignore you when you walk into any store, (again, this review is about Guitar Centers everywhere) which is good because it means you can browse without being bothered but bad because when you actually need someone, there's nobody around. It's almost as if they don't want to take your money. I've also dropped my guitar off to have the input jack fixed, and they gave me like a week and said they would call me when they finished the repair. Did they call me? No, they fucking did not, of course. I called back and they couldn't even find my guitar. THEY LOST MY FUCKING GUITAR. I told them the make, model, color...none of this information helped them to locate the instrument that I explicitly trusted them to take care of. Finally after an hour on hold they located it. Fucking idiots. This isn't uncommon, I've read multiple reviews where people recount stories of Guitar Center locations everywhere simply losing their instruments in the abyss of a shithole that they call "the back." Honestly, how the fuck is losing my/anyone else's instrument acceptable? Like...at all? Please explain. I am giving you my instrument with the trust that you will care for it and fix it, and you fucking LOSE it? How?! But, nothing is worse than many of the employees that work at these places. While there are definitely cool employees who actually are well versed in the products sold in their respective departments, I would venture to say that MOST of them are complete fucking idiots. Often times you will actually end up teaching them something when you ask a question. But I consider myself pretty knowledgeable in guitars and amps, so thankfully I usually don't have many questions, if any at all. But if you're a first time buyer who's just learning to play and shopping for your first guitar, watch out. They will try to squeeze every penny out of you, hoping they can pray on your lack of knowledge. More than anything, though, it's just the attitude and the vibe that a lot of Guitar Center employees give off that is a real fucking bummer. These fucks have this "holier than thou" attitude, and will completely judge you on looks and will scoff at you if you have a different opinion than they do. If you're a woman, expect to be completely ignored or laughed at as well. Because chicks can't play music, dude...lol. Wrong, douchefuck. There is an extreme "too good for you", elitist atmosphere and these guys deploy the shittiest fake friend/used car salesman shtick when trying to upsell you on a ton of shit you don't need. They call you "man" and "brah" and try to ask about what music you're into and what guitar you have. I don't want to be your buddy. Sell me my shit and let me be on my way. On the whole, I cringe when I have to come shop here. I think most serious musicians do. Support local shops. It's an uncomfortable place to be. I think this guitar center is pretty good. being a big chain store they can't ensure every guitar center will be perfect so quality of staff varies from store to store. the Millbury store has a wide selection of guitars, basses, drums, amps keyboards, DJ equipment. this is guitar center's major selling point that they have a wide selection and lower prices since they're a chain store and can buy in bulk. I came in looking for a high quality beginner guitar and settled on a Taylor 100 series the sales person answered all my questions to my satisfaction so I bought it. later I wanted an amp for it and did my research in advance so I knew exactly which amp I wanted to try out. the amp is fantastic and I was able to get a boxed model for the same price as a marked down floor model. my advice is if you are looking for a specific piece of equipment call before hand and ask if it's in stock if it's not see if another store has it. it also goes without saying to read consumer reviews about a particular guitar you want so you if it's worth it or not. I have read that people who ordered equipment from other guitar centers had to wait a long time for their orders to be put in and for their equipment to get there and sometimes the guitar arrived with defects and couldn't be returned. for this reason I would only buy equipment in stock that I can personally play and inspect and take home the same day. read more
