I was also impressed with how he explained the nuances of the work. I'm a pretty handy guy myself so I appreciate getting tips from experts. All in all a very good experience.

Great thing is he can do so many aspects of the job and you don't need 5 different contractors to get the job done. Phil Barkowsky, Deco Construction, remodeled our 40 year old kitchen and we can't be happier. We…read morehad postponed this job for years because it seemed overwhelming, but Phil took on the job and exceeded our expectations. He had to remove a wall, open up another wall into the dining room, move the laundry room wall, raise the ceiling, remove two windows, and reroute electrical and plumbing. It seemed complicated, but everything went very smoothly. Phil and all of his subcontractors are perfectionists. Every aspect of the remodel looks amazing. The team that fabricated and installed the quartz counters were able to make a perfect match and we don't have any visible seams. They are truly artists, as is Phil. The cabinets are top quality and Phil did a great job on the installation, even modifying drawers for the new downdraft. The flooring is perfectly installed and trimmed even though we didn't have the easiest flooring to replace. We really appreciated input on color and style from Phil's wife, Phyllis. She has a great eye for color and detail. Both she and Phil talked me off the ledge a couple of times when I couldn't make a decision. They're a great team! One of the most pleasant aspects of the remodel was always knowing when someone was planning to be at the house. We were even updated when someone had to be 15 minutes late. Phil and his subcontractors were all unusually meticulous and neat. At the end of each day the house was swept or vacuumed and everything put away. The job was completed on schedule and it wasn't overwhelming at all. Phil's quote was reasonable and what we expected to pay. We cannot recommend Phil and Deco Construction highly enough. We will definitely talk to Phil next time we have a project.

That was probably my number one impression -- that we were dealing with an honest and straightforward person, which made everything stress-free. He was very clear about the plan for scheduling and maintained good communication when there was a change. The outcome looks great and is exactly what we discussed. Similarly, the price was fair and what we agreed on.

The first two contractors were less than ideal and MK Construction was fantastic. We'll never have another contractor! They did a kitchen expansion and remodel with a outside deck and retaining wall. Matt is an amazing communicator, very organized and schedule and just honest and straightforward. His crew arrived at the same time every day, were friendly, polite, hardworking and easy to be around. We opted to live in the house when the construction was ongoing and "cook" in our basement. The house/construction site, was cleaned up every day, Matt checked in with me about what was taking place every day, and when my son's monster truck fell under the stairs they were building, they pulled up boards to recover it. They almost always do just one job at a time, so they are your contractors during the scope of your job. If they do have finishes on other jobs they will let you know ahead of time, and will be very clear on when they will spend a day on another job. The work is great and we love our new kitchen and deck! Couldn't ask for a better crew. Matt also project manages everything. They handle the big details (like a fantastic subcontractor who did a great wood floor) and the small details (a designer referred us to wood cabinets that were missing pieces and Matt followed up and made sure everything was fixed and delivered). Couldn't ask for a better crew and a better job!

Job: replace rotting wood siding on the front of home with james hardie siding…read more Found DOM thru the hardie website - DOM was listed as an official installer. When I called I talked to Peter who is the same person listed on the business license. This was the type of small company I was looking for. A company that knows their job but I do not have to pay the overhead of an executive staff and marketing. Peter showed up when he said, gave an excellent quote, clearly knew Hardie board as well as any other company I talked with. After getting the permit he was on the job almost exactly when he said he would. My take on his crew was that they are all friends. They work well together. Tear off was fast and installing the "body" hardieboard was quite fast. Most of the time was spent in prep - adding underlayment, flashing, paper & caulking. I was very impressed watching the attention to detail. When installing the siding they made suggestions but never pushed. I asked them to do our columns with a bit more detail which I knew would take more time. They did it with no hesitation and they came out beautifully. They cleaned up the job site each day. When doing tear off they filled their truck each day to remove debris quickly. Small Con: in the quote for the work they asked for a large downpayment. My understanding is calif only allows up to $1K as a downpayment. I emailed and suggested a pay as you go structure and DOM was happy to work with that so it became a nonissue.
