This place gets busy but they have a lot of ladies working that are constantly moving the line. I ordered tamales and it's my first time having Guatemalan tamales. The masa was soft and tasty. I visited this bakery with my friend and it was such a chill experience. It's in an inconspicuous spot on Beverly Blvd but once you see it, it's hard to miss. Parking is plenty on the street across from it. Just make sure to check the times for street sweeping. Once inside, they have a little market area on the left where you can purchase snacks and drinks, in the front left is their bakery items and the right is where the food buffet is where you can order combo plates. My friend and I ordered the Rellenitos-mashed plantains stuffed with sweet black beans (make sure to ask for Crema! Sour cream!), Pache-potato tamales with pork, pupusa with pork and cheese, a Concha, and 1 Atol De Elote. The Rellenitos were so yummy! They were fried to perfection with plenty of sweet black beans inside. Adding the sour cream with it added a savory kick which I really enjoyed. Pache-I have never had a potato tamales before so this was a new experience. The texture is very interesting. It kind of reminds me of silken tofu with a grit to it if that makes sense. Smooth but with a bite. The tomato sauce on top was the perfect balance of sweet and sour and I really enjoyed that it wasn't salty at all. It had a good amount of meat inside as well. Pupusa with pork and cheese-this was my favorite! It came with this red sauce and pickled cabbage of sorts and it was the most delicious together! The flavor of the sauce balanced out the cheese and pork and the cabbage added a lovely texture. Concha-sorry for no picture but it was very good. It's smaller than the Mexican concha's that I grew up eating. The bread was not as sweet which I liked and I enjoyed the texture. While chewy, it had a fluffiness to it. Atol De Elote-this drink was at the perfect temperature to enjoy. It had chunks of corn in it as well. The taste reminds me of a corn porridge but less sweet. It's more of dessert drink for me! read more

Being from Guatemala, the bakery has been my go to place for Guatemalan products and food without anything negative to say except for today. Not having enough time to make my own, I opted in buying Fiambre and was extremely disappointed. Not only was it overly priced at $35. per container (serving 4-5 people), had less than a handful cold cuts displayed on top of nothing but curtido which had zero flavor, no vinegar, salt BUT for some reason had sugar. Needless to say....I will never buy this yearly traditional plate from the bakery. Should've listened to everyone when I was told NOT to buy from them. I'll stick to the chocobananos! Not bad for a fast typical bakery as the woman behind the counter just smile and are so pleasant. The spot is nice and let's start with the food: I had the typical breakfast of eggs, beans and crema. I am not a fan of the big dollop of cream that is typical to Guatemala, but when in Rome. It wasn't bad at all, and the fact that they hand make their tortillas is perfection. You can't complain when this is here. The food is very typical of Guatemala and I was I pressed with the knowledge these women have. Perfect when you are in the mood for food and the bakery section is on point. The galletas cookies, are on point as they make these every little whole here. I've had them in Guatemala and can vouch for the authenticity. One of the ladies said that she goes back to her country every year but the pandemic stopped that. I grew up in this area. Their bread used to be top notch. But the past 3 months, the bread is bad and the service is even worst. Just last week there was a roach in their boliyo (french bread) the girl just moved the bread around and it was on the wall and she said. "See there is nothing." Then today I bought a piece of cake and it tasted rotten. Like WTF. Now their bread is super expensive. You cant even get good quality any more from this store. Great bread. I used to come here since I was young and it brings back memories. I'm glad everything looks the same. Their bread is delicious and their food is also good. They have and inside table seating so you can grab food. It's not just a bakery. My dad always comes here for the bread and their Fanta sodas. Their prices are fair. And the bread is not burnt. I've been to other bakeries like this and their bread is sometimes burn and it ruins it. I would recommend this bakery for your daily bread. The only thing that's inconvenient it's their parking. There was lots of bread-y goods and then some fruit cakes with processed cream, like something in Ralph's. However, I was looking for dinner and watched the other customers or the combo stews. Choose from chicken, beef, tripe. It comes with rice (a bit like fried rice) and black beans. I switched one plate for plantains instead of rice. I think you can do that with the chow mein too. The stews were tasty, if a bit light on the serving, but it was under $8 a plate. The jamica drink tastes like sugary water, certainly not the best place to get this. Guatemalan goodies galore! My husband is Guatemalan so every once in a while he craves homemade Guatemalan food. I try to make some for him but it just doesn't taste the same so he goes to this bakery to stock up on refried black beans, tamales, chuchitos (small guatemalan tamal), sweet bread, imported chips, cookies and even sodas. The food is delicious and it is very affordable. It's very authentic and feels homemade. My favorite thing to buy are rellenitos, mashed plantains filled with black beans that are deep fried and sprinkled with sugar. It sounds weird but they actually taste delicious. Reminds me of the asian red bean desserts. They also have atoles, these are creamy hot drinks thickened with flour and sweetened to perfection. They have a fava bean one and a corn one which is my absolute favorite. If you're into ethnic cuisine, Guatemalan food is interesting. It is similar to Mexican food with an earthier flavor and it is also a bit heavier. Good to try every now and then. Not good if you're trying to loose weight. I've been coming here for years, I walked in this morning and the customer service was the worst. So rude with attitude. Every time I tried to order the lady kept interrupting me and just gossiping with her coworkers. With $5 cash (i don't think they take cards) you can get: 1) fried plantains with fried refried beans and bolillo (aka french bread) or 2) pupusas or 3) tamales with a bolillo or 4) shredded beef with rice and a bolillo or 5) eggs, beans and bolillo or 6) a ton of other homemade central american dishes. It's a tiny, tiny place with maybe no more than 5 tables. Service is counter-style and it's always full of customers. I suggest getting your food to go. Also, right next to the restaurant, there's a bakery where one can purchase bolillos, pan dulce (sweet bread), cakes and other traditional packaged central american delicacies such as baby mangoes, nopales (cactus), sopitas maggi, spices, and other knick knacks. read more
