Guardian Protection installed the alarm system in our new home some years ago. I called them recently to inquire about a repair. The woman who answered the call advised that I was not registered with them and they could not service my system. No offer to from her to rectify the situation. I feel like my story is the same as many others. I signed up in 2013 and was OK with signing a 5 year contract in return for free equipment and install. However, the warranty on that equipment doesn't last long and then they want more money to fix anything that breaks. Then, as soon as that 5 years was up, they jack up your rate with no notice. I called in back then to ask if there was any way tog et the old rate back and they agreed to lower it. The lady was super smooth - told me I just had sign some paperwork for the discount and here it was another 5 year contract. Unlike some others I see on here, I did actually notice and told her I was not interested to sign a contract - that I was just go with a cheaper company. She then heavily implied that this was just a formality and she just needed the paperwork for her files to get the discount through. It was COVID and I was tired and dumb and believed her. Now of course my 10 year old equipment is completely non-functional and we no longer even need the system in our new place and we are getting charged a fee to cancel. Any company that relies on early termination fees to keep their customers STAY AWAY. Go with Simplisafe. You'd honestly be better off putting the equipment on credit than taking free equipment from these people. read more

Do NOT use this company. Their equipment is the same as every other company, simple stick up and setup, but they REQUIRE a tech to come out and "Install" everything, of course theres a fee for this. They also cost $600/year, Which is $400 more than something like Ring. Then, if you decide to cancel, they charge you $35/month times the remainder of your contract. They want $1500 just to cancel. Please do not use this company! We were suckered into signing a contract in 2017 while building a home because they make it seem like it's the best time because the walls are all open and it's easy to run wires which would be far more expensive if the house was finished. Nowadays everything is wireless anyway so it doesn't matter! We have been paying them $52 a month for 6 years and they will not let us out of the contract! They told us we had to write a letter stating we wanted to cancel service, so we did! We wrote 3 letters. They still won't cancel the plan! I haven't used their equipment in over 4 years. They also left my 7 year old screaming inside our home and never contacted the police! He thought someone was inside the home because they were talking over the Guardian intercom system and they heard him crying and hung up! Someone could've had a gun to his head and they hung up!! This service provides false sense of security. It will take 15-20 minutes for police to get to you if you have an actual emergency. The intruder will be gone and hopefully your family will still be around when they do show up. Do yourself a favor and go buy door and window sensors from Lowes that connect to a loud siren so you have an early detection system for intruders which will allow you to arm yourself and protect your family the right way! These people are criminals and need to be stopped. Boycott GUARDIAN PROTECTION! To Mary Lynne M, Yelp says your messaging is not enabled. So maybe you just say that so it looks like you try and help your customers? I can assure you that I have talked till I was blue in the face to your people and get nowhere! Guardian uses predatory sales practices. I will echo the other reviewers in warning everyone: DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT! I simply wanted services moved from my girlfriends name to mine and they snuck in and had me sign a new 60 month contract without me noticing. Emailed me an online document to sign and told me it would take care of the transfer. Apparently I missed the tiny print where I extended the contract for another 60 months! Why would on a transfer would anyone want to extend the contract! I spoke to their customer service department about honoring the initial date of the contract and they refused. Now they want over $550 dollar for an early termination and would not budge on making an concessions. They already got 60 months out of me and now won't acknowledge they maliciously roped me into 14 more. I plan on filing a complaint with the BBB and speaking to a lawyer about what can be done. They should be ashamed of their one star review, but they absolutely do not change their practices because they prefer profit over customer service. read more

I'm so ticked off at Guardian, sadly enough. We purchased a home in Austin Tx in March 2012 and since it was wired for alarm services, I signed up. Perfect, right? Well, my husband lost his job in June 2012, couldn't find work anywhere, so we had to make a hard choice to move back home (a few states over) last Aug. At our present address I didn't have any alarm system set up. After calling Guardian and asking if I could cancel the services, they said, "No". Then they said they'd give me a relocation package for a wireless system including 3 doors, 1 motion sensor and 1 keypad for $198. This doesn't even cover the downstairs area of my house. Here I'm trying to lessen my expenses (still haven't paid off the moving expenses) and Guardian just wants to add to them. Basically, I've been paying $43.25/month for NOTHING since August. I've talked to them numerous times begging them to cancel because of our hardship situation. Nothin' going. My contract isn't up till March 2015. That means they'll auto-withdraw $43.25 from my account till that time no matter what. Seriously? Contracts can be broken. Would it really hurt them to save their 'good name' and help us out? Make us happy? Not sure what I'm going to do . . . BBB? Now, even when I HAVE the money to get another alarm (which I don't even want to) I wouldn't use Guardian! read more

I was with this company as a customer for 7 years. Closing on new home didn't go through but closing on our house was going through as planned. So we were stuck trying to find a place to rent. After 7 years there the best they could do for our loyalty was have us lay for something we didn't have. A security system for a home we didn't have; or pay about 600 dollars in contract cancellation. Nothing says go shop elsewhere more than a company that kicks people when they are down. So I moved to Pittsburgh in 2019. I signed a contract with Guardian protection services. paid an up front fee of close to $600 and I paid a monthly fee of approximately $49. Now almost three years later, I had to move to a condo closer to where my wife was recently placed in an Alzheimer's memory care unit. Thus I had to cancel my contract. Guardian informEd me when I callEd to cancel that cancellation will result in a charge of $750 per the contract. since I was never informed of this fee, I asked for a copy of the contract. Of course the fee is there, in the fine print. No moral or ethical justification for the fee It is legal though. It was my responsibility to read the contract. my trusting the sales person to tell me something like this was a big mistake on my part. I then read the contract further. It auto renews for 5 more years. The fee (liquidated damage) is included in the renewal. Stopping the auto renew is both cumbersome and requires significant notice. i Strongly urge you to never use this company. It's contract is not customer friendly. Their sales people do not inform you of the fees. The person on the phone was polite. But he was clear they would do nothing to mitigate that fee. I signed the contract. Been with this company for 13 years. Shortly after I signed my last 2 year contract, issues started occurring with my system. Made a call to see if I could get someone to come out, and was told that I would be responsible for the service call. They also gave me a free remote when I signed up 13 years ago and when I went to get that replaced they said $60? I have 2 months left and I will be going with another company. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this company. They are quick to get you to sign a contract, but don't back any of the equipment they provide to you. I just tried cancelling my service from a home that I sold and was told that I had to pay $750 to cancel the plan. That even though I do not live in the house and have paid to have the service cancelled, they would continue to bill me monthly until I paid this amount. This is on top of a $39.99 a month contract that actually was $85.98 a month for "equipment costs" which was equipment I paid several thousand dollars for upon installation. There is a lot of bait-and-switch with this company. This is not security systems company. This is a scam operation to get you to sign contracts that you cannot get out of for services that are sub-par. I won't get into how bad their service was regarding cameras and how often they failed. As if arguing with them was not enough the piece that really made me angry was this: They said that there was one way I could avoid the cancellation fee: convince the new owners to take on my contract and then I would be free of the service cancellation fee. Seriously? I am going to convince the new owners to take on a service I believe is terrible to save myself this fee? I told them that was completely unethical and predatory. I already contacted my real estate broker and told her not to let the new people (or anyone else who is moving to our area) go with Guardian even though all of the equipment (that I paid for in advance and to which they continued to bill me monthly) is still in the house. You will see i've reviewed before, after being literally lied to by the sales associate, assuring me my contract would be only for 2 years because I was renting this home. Apparently, when we moved to Ohio and transferred account from Maryland, we inadvertently e-signed a new 5 year agreement. After getting military orders (and providing them same) to move from my home to another state, they're insisting I pay out the remainder of my contract or face a $750 cancellation fee! The guardian rep told me I was signing a two year contract. SURPRISE it was a 5 year contract. He assured us that we would have a window to decide whether or not to use their security services. We decided not to and informed him that we wouldn't be using them, but he got my wife to sign the contract under the false pretense that we wouldn't owe anything if the system weren't activated.  After closing on the house, a Guardian Tech showed up to activate the system and we explained that we weren't having it activated. He left and the system stayed off.  Two months later, we receive a bill for service and when we called to investigate were told that we were under contract and that a multi-thousand cancellation fee would apply, even though the service is not active in our house, and never has been.  BUYER BEWARE!!! read more

This company is a total rip off. We have had nothing but problems since this system was installed in our new home. We had a flood last year which caused damage to the system. Since the home was a new build the warranty covered everything. The builder asked Guardian to come repair the alarm damage. Guardian insisted we pay the service fee even though the building told Guardian to send the bill to them. It took 3 months (of course while we were still being billed) for them to come out and "repair" the damage. Low and behold 8 months later our alarm is having the same problem. This time without a warranty. It has taken over 3 weeks to schedule an appointment (again, still being charged for a non working alarm which they twiddle their thumbs about getting a service person out) This company is the worst I have ever dealt with. They are a scam!! They showed up at my elderly mother's house and told her they wanted to do a free upgrade to her ADT system. She let them in and they proceeded to replace the entire ADT system with their own system. Once they finished, they asked her to sign a document with super small print and told her it was just to confirm that they had done the work. Turns out it was a 5 year contract at almost double the monthly fees with no way out. Now she has moved out of the house to a senior living facility and they want $450 to cancel the service... Avoid doing any business with this company! UPDATE: Their deception continues. I responded to their comment below three times and they ignored me. They only want to look like they are responsive by posting comments on Yelp. Again, avoid this company! read more

We thought our contract was for a year or two, well we just discovered that we are contracted with them for 5 years! We paid for the equipment already, but must continue to use them for 5 years. I bought a new home in Canonsburg, PA from Heartland Homes and was sold on an interior security system from Guardian and Heartland during construction and then moved out of state and while trying to sell my home and discontinue service from Guardian was told that if I did not get the new owners (which the home has not sold yet, so there are no new owners and I moved to a location not supported by Guardian) that I was responsible for an early termination fee of $1200. And, by the way, my alarm system did not work when two birds entered my home through a vent when I was not there and no alarm went off. Talk about being ripped off!!!!!! I will stick with Ring and SimpliSafe!!!! I am sure Guardian will be out of business soon!!!!! In response to the Guardian Customer Service Representative, if you read my post, I did not get another security service and where I moved Guardian is unavailable and I paid $3700 in upfront costs during construction for wiring and the system itself and pay$44.95 a month for alarm service, so I belief in all fairness, Guardian has more than recouped their cost and made a substantial profit. If I could apply zero stars to this review I would have. This company Guardian Protection Services is the biggest scam I have ever came accross in my 60 year life right in the public's face. My 86 year old mother lives in an adult mobile home park which is gated and does not allow any solicitors. A third party solicitor was able to gain access to my 86 year old mother's mobile home park and knock on her door. Even though my mother already had an eacy to use and understand security system installed at her home and already up and running (Life Alert) this salesmen ignored this fact and talked my mother into his newer upgraded hot shot Guardian Security system with all the bells and whistles (Honeywell). He told her that all of the equipment was FREE.. What he did not tell her is that she was signing a 5 year written contract with no bail out for $60 dollars a month (direct debit) at more than $3,750.00 dollars for this new system weather she liked it or not. The Contract was written in super small print and mom is super honest with a big heart and trusted this third party salesmen from AMP Security. Guardian came out and removed my mom's simple easy to use Life Alert system and replace it with a honeywell system which tapped into her furnace/air conditioner wiring as well. This system was so complicated that my mother was having me come by all of the time to re-set the heater or air conditioner or some alarm would be going off she did not understand, and needed to be turned off. We opted to remove the system, we called Guardian who said since my mother signed a 5 year contract with the third party AMP Security salesmen there was nothing Guardian Security Systems could do. They were now holding my mother hostage for $3,800.00 and the five year contract. Even thought the original third party solicitor illegally entered my mothers gated community to get the contract signed. After weeks of contacting Guardian by phone and with detailed letters they ignored, we removed the Honeywell/Guardian equipment cutting it off the wall and throwing it all in the trash. We called Life Alert back and my mothers has her easy to understand easy to use security system back up and running now. This all did not happen without a cost to her. She had to pay a heating and air conditioning professional to come out and remove and rewire her furnace and air conditioner at a cost of almost $300. My mother now is receiving at least one call per day from Guardian people playing stupid and saying that they are not getting an emergency signal any longer from her home to their equipment, (which in the AMP salesmens terms was my mom's equipment free). Probably cannot get that signal from the city dump. I will be taking them to Federal court soon. You have been warned about Guardian buyer beware. !!!!!!! read more

Terrible customer service. Not willing to accept any responsibility . My system was not monitored for 4 months due to not having the correct communication card in it. They couldn't fix it on the first trip because they did not have the tech outfitted with it. So i was inconvenienced a second time and because of that it was tough to get on my schedule so they say its my fault that it wasn't monitored and refused to credit me any money back. Terrible experience with them, their systems are not modernized and they do not care about their customers. Stay away from this company. I would recommend not lying to your customers. We won a 1 year promotion including equipment install. During the install the technician informed us that despite what the contract said that because we had won the promotion we could call after a year and cancel our service if we were not satisfied. We had a long conversation about it with him BEFORE WE SIGNED ANYTHING! We would not have signed otherwise. We ended up not liking the service provided so we called to cancel our service after a year and have been told all the way up the chain even at corporate that we were in a 5 year contract and in order to cancel have to pay $2,200. This is incredibly dishonest and taking advantage of customers. It's not ethical like they claim to be on their website and it is not the way you should do business. I am incredibly disappointed and do not recommend this company under any circumstances. They will screw you over and take advantage of you. And they need to train their technicians how to give proper information. But it wasn't just him who told us we could cancel after a year. We signed up for service from Guardian a few years back. Due to unforseen circumstances we had to sell our house and move to MA. We called Guardian to tell them about the situation and the only out they offered was to pawn the service off on someone else or renew for another three years. Their rationale was that it costs money to send the installation guy out to the house and to install the unit which is all spread out across the course of the contract. Fast forward a year and a half and here we are still paying for an inactive protection service on a house we don't own, in a state we don't live in. I would gladly pay the installation fee out of pocket twice over to get out of this contract. One of the worst financial mistakes I've ever made. Period. read more

I am a customer with them right now. At first we just installed the security system. We decided we wanted the camera doorbell after a month of having the security system. I have called consistently for 5 months (3 or 4 times a week) to ask to get them to come and install the doorbell. They always tell me the part is not in or the third party who will install it, will call us in a day or two. THEY NEVER DO. Also, I have signed the document 3 times already so we could have those set up. I would not go with them again. read more

I originally purchased my Guardian Protection Service with Guardian on 3/27/2019; through Ryan Homes. I have had several issues from incorrect installation to devices purchased from Guardian Protection malfunctioning. In 2019 I purchased a new home from Ryan Home and had Guardian install my system. The first issue they did not install a hardwired window sensor per my contract agreement in my 4th floor loft. The second issue a hardwire in one my garage window, the sensor was cut. To resolve the two issues Guardian installed external window sensors, the whole point of me going with Guardian was to have everything hardwired, not battery operated. The third issue, their provided fire detector is so sensitive even when I made toast it would go off. I called Guardian to find a resolution, they just try to sell me more products, instead of resolving the issue. I ended up replacing my smoke detector with a Nest smoke detector. The latest issue I reported on July 27, 2022 was the doorbell camera Guardian provided from Skybell lags and does not capture motion, such as package delivery. I had to install a separate camera to capture motion. I called Guardian technical support and was told this is a known issue with Skybell and that they are moving away from Skybell to their own doorbell. I was sent to loyalty support. Turns out their products only have a 1 year warranty, but Guardian signs you into a 5 year contract. I just asked for a new doorbell and they tried to charge me $350 for a new doorbell and lock me into another 5 year contract. I ended up getting a ring doorbell instead. I want to terminate my Guardian contract without penalty. My current termination date is 3/27/2023. I want this contract terminated immediately. It has been a nightmare dealing with Guardian and the horrible products and expensive services. Guardian Protection Services is by far the most corrupt company in practice I have seen. Please do not use them, use anyone else. They will bind you into contracts, they will not repair their own fault equipment. They will charge you a fee for setting up a device rather than allowing you access to set it up yourself. Adding any device requires a technician to come here out a code that they will not give you, and then pressing 2 buttons. I BEG you to go to any other company. Also there person I spoke with on the phone was very helpful (Rebecca Burdette) and did not try to push anything extra on me . Unfortunately, I will be deploying and have my Military Orders ready to send in. I called about cancellation as we will not be able to have Guardian Protection in Germany. The representative told me that I would need to pay $750 to cancel. This is absurd. I reached out to the JAG office on base and the attorney advised me that this is against the law and that servicemembers can cancel under the SCRA. Ignoring that right and seeking to enforce such a contract could lead to costly litigation. Moreover, it could put the servicemember and their family through unnecessary stress.
