    House salad with grilled chicken.
    Greg B.

Been here twice now and the food is really good. I didn't get pictures the second time but I did in the first one. Small place and only one server at lunch so you may wait a bit if it's crowded. She is really nice and does a great job though. The food is fresh and I think most of it is home made. Not 100% sure if the French Onion soup is homemade or started with a base. Regardless it was good. Also got the side salad with grilled chicken and the chicken was cooked perfectly. My second trip I got a grilled cheese. It was good. Very basic which isn't bad. Multigrain bread and I don't think they used butter. I think it was dry toasted but again was good. I also got a side salad. For an appetizer we got the Thai Bang Shrimp. Those were AMAZING! Very crunchy, sauce was very good, the shrimp were huge and not over cooked. Very good. Prices are decent. Ambience is very nice and they have board games which is really cool.

I saw this business post quite often during covid with take out offerings. The food always looked good. So today when we were shopping nearby I saw the eatery and we decided to stop in. It is located on the side of the strip mall. On entering there are a number of tables and business was steady. We chose a table near the back of the room and had a nice view of the touches of decor. The menu had lots of choices that interested me. I started with a nicely brewed unsweet tea. They have flavored teas and lemonades but not available without sugar. Various desserts are located to go near the entrance. Our server was attentive and pleasant. I went with the California burger without avocado and an upcharge side of loaded waffle fries. My husband's choice was the Yorktown, a roast beef sandwich with a side of coleslaw. My burger was huge and I never even got to taste it. That is because I filled up on those loaded waffle fries! I did not leave a morsel for a mouse! My husband devoured his sandwich, and while the coleslaw was very basic, he said it was tasty. Total bill with tax was $42 plus tip. I over heard other diners expressing their satisfaction with their meals as well. They seem to have some loyal customers that come in. I wouldn't mind becoming one of them. I really enjoyed the casual vibe, the menu selections and the nice meal and drink we enjoyed.

This is our first time coming here, and we were not disappointed. My dietary needs changed and it's a great place if you need to be gluten free and dairy free. The entire restaurant is gluten free, which is great for those with gluten sensitivity. The food was excellent, we got a bang bang shrimp appetizer and it was delicious, I then got the crab cake sandwich, and my husband got a pepper jack burger. My son got Mac and cheese from the kids menu. Everything was excellent, and this will be our usual spot from now on. Service was great, the waitress answered all of our questions and served us well. The restaurant is very clean inside and decorated nicely. Please go and give this place a try, they have a lot of options on the menu to fit everyone's needs.

My husband has been eying up Grunow's Kitchen for a while now. We finally had the opportunity today. The are slightly tucked back. But, it's nice and quiet. Parking is perfect. There is a lot of room. Currently they do share the lot with McDonald's Garden center, but that is March-July. We were greeted instantly. They do dine in and take out. It was fairly quiet... ok we were the only people there. But, it was 2pm, after a lunch rush. The dining area is nice and quaint. The food was good. Not as impressed as we thought we would. My husband had issues with his meal. He had the fish n chips. The breading On the fish look like it was tempura breading. But it wasn't cooked all the way through so it was a little soggy and the fish made the breading very soggy in the end. He had sweet potato wedges as his side. But because the potato wedges were all different sizes some cooked more than the others the larger ones were not cooked all the way through. I did enjoy my chicken salad but it did come out warm which I thought was a little odd I was expecting chicken salad to come out cold. Other than that everything else seem to be OK At the time to pay the bill I tried to redeem for my free iced tea via the LoveVA App, but the waitress did not know how to do that. But, she took care of it in the end. Turn off for me, was when the waitress went out to get a smoke. She came back smelling like the smoke. Instant turn off. I was going to get the lemon pound cake dessert, but I could not do the smoke smell. Other than that, she was gray. Nice, polite and helpful. My husband said he was good to not go back again. Part of me wonders if it was just an off day.

Service was wonderful, food was delicious, and restaurant was clean. Easy listening music! Great restaurant and I love that it is gluten free menu!

Finally had the chance to come in here! I wish I had seen the specials board, I noticed it after we had ordered our food since it was our first time. I kept my eyes peeled for what others had ordered to see what I wanna try next time. The chicken Alfredo had lots of veggies and flavor which I LOVED! The chicken bites were definitely breast meat. It was good as well. The girls ate the loaded mashed potatoes so fast! The food was super fresh and full of flavor. Water, tea, and lemonade are the beverage options.... No soda which I LOVED! They do have a cocktail menu. The chef came out and brought the torte and was so sweet! She definitely takes pride in her food. The girls totally ate it up within a minute! It is a flourless chocolate cake basically... more like a fudge or hard mouse consistency. The place is semi small and cozy. We will definitely be back. It is expensive though.... However I figured that going into the place being marketed as a fresh food place.

Sorry, but I just can't get onboard here. It was somewhat of a bad experience from the get go. Mind you, these COVID-19 times are testing all of us, so it's understandable things are a bit off, but there's always room for improvement. It was a Friday of a holiday weekend, the sole survivors in the office and I (3 of us in total) decided to go out for lunch for a rare treat. We called and made a reservation. No one on the phone notified us of their policy regarding how long they hold your table. Once there, we were informed "sorry, but after 5 minutes we will give reserved tables away). I looked at my watch, we were 7 minutes late... no bueno! So, we ordered food to go and sat in the waiting area until it was ready, I mean workin' folk gotta work, right? But a las, when I tried to order a Diet Coke, the lady who I presume to be the owner, with a snobbish tone replied, "we pride ourselves on offering healthy choices here, so no sugary drinks are sold." Ok then, pardon me your highness, I thought. So I ordered a lemonade. However, the irony was not lost on me, I'm pretty sure there was plenty of sugar in that lemonade. Anyway, an easy 20 minutes go by and we see plenty of people come in and get seated, while some others leave. So we thought, let's see if we can change our to-go order to stay here. Ok, they responded, we can seat you now. It's almost like we were able to expedite everything by ordering first, relaxing in the comfy chairs in the "lobby" and then eat there anyway. Though it still took a very long time to get our food. The food? Meh! I ordered fish, it was ok, but a bit dry. My sweet potato fries? The best part of my meal. Both of my table mates ordered a pasta dish and they both remarked the pasta was under cooked. This also was the determining factor to discover the pasta was not fresh, but boxed. So much for their scratch homemade healthy schtick. Look, I don't mean to pile, because some folk might totally disagree, however, in my humble opinion they put out a vibe of pretentiousness and their food doesn't back it up. In addition, their prices were too high for the pedestrian product they were laying down on our table. Generally if it's just a glitch I'll give a joint a second go round, but if they're all snobbed out like these jack wagons were? Pass! Not this guy! But hey, you guys decide for yourself. Cheers!

I love having a 100% gluten-free kitchen in the area where the possibilities are endless. I ordered the Club and my friend ordered the burger. We both also had the loaded fries as our side. The fries were the best part. The service is always quick and of course we had to get dessert on our way out.

Ask the Community - Grunow's Kitchen

Is it still the same Med food, gluten and nut free, as it was when it was MedMeals? What has changed besides the name and the garden improvements?

I'm not sure how it was before, but I do know that I wouldn't classify their menu as Mediterranean as it is now.

You're not just a customer here; you're a guest. The welcome was immediate and genuine and set the tone for the whole experience before I even sat down. I ordered the brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries, and wow, it delivered. I was surprised the blackberry chipotle sauce worked BERY WELL! The brisket was tender, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Paired with perfectly seasoned sweet potato fries, it was the kind of meal that sticks with you long after you leave. This isn't reheated, thrown-together food, you can taste the love and craft in every bite. It was like Woman Power this morning with all ladies from front to back. Their whole vibe was awesome from the front of the house to the back. I have to give a very special shoutout to my waitress, Tiffany... she was absolutely AWESOME. Attentive, personable, and full of good energy, she made the whole experience even better. The kind of server who makes you feel like you're dining with a friend. So, we get the wings, and the only heat they had was the warmth from the chicken. No flavor at all. It definitely wasn't sweet, and it wasn't spicy. By the third wing, we were still trying to figure out if the heat was going to kick in, and it did not. So, he's like, "OK," and I ordered the jalapeño and Swiss burger. You know me, I love jalapeños, so I'm thinking, "Okay, maybe it'll have some good savory flavor." I've done those kinds of burgers before. The flavor was mid. You could tell they just hand-patted the meat, threw it on the stove, and called it a day. No salt, no pepper, no flavor. Bland as can be. And the jalapeños weren't even hot. I was like, "What?" I grow fresh jalapeños, so I know what they're supposed to taste like, and these weren't it. One of our friends got the bourbon barbecue wings, and she said they tasted like somebody mixed a ketchup packet with some tomato paste, and that was about it. The only thing that was even decent was probably the sweet tea. And then, our friend had to order another meal. I think she got the chicken Philly or something like that, and that actually had some flavor. But here's what got me: how do the French fries have flavor, but my burger and wings don't? I will not be going back. And I'm gonna write a review, because that made no sense., they had pulled pork too. You know pulled pork is supposed to be savory, maybe with a nice sauce or two. Situated right under the York River bridge, not far from the Yorktown museum, is the cutest village. I'm sorry, they can't claim it as part of the original Yorktown but it is cute. There is a lovely river walk...hence the name of the restaurant. They have some of the BEST views in the area being right there. We had reservations however it being the busiest day for restaurants, we had to chill our heels for a few moments before being taken back. I was more than ok with this as we ended up getting a window seat (see above for reference). Thank heavens they put the name of the server in the receipt cuz y'all know my Swiss cheese brain. Cara was the wonderful server who took care of us. She was always there ready for me to get my mum good & spoiled. Super friendly and very helpful. The buffet, it was impressive for a buffet and while not a big buffet, it was specialized. First up were 3 different kinds of salads, then a fruit platter, and bagels & cream cheese. They had a raw bar with shrimp & oysters next, then breakfast stuff (eggs, potatoes bacon etc) mac & cheese, garlic mashed taters & then a carving station with turkey, ham & lamb. Finally a small but respectful dessert table. If you couldn't find something to fill you, you weren't looking. The single sour note of the buffet was the salmon and Mac & cheese. I'll know better next time. Overall the River Walk has come back with perfect timing and style. I highly recommend a visit. Parking is a pain but patience will help

We did sit at a table with the view of the water which was nice. Jason our server came over within seconds to pour us water and take our drink orders. We both wanted sweet tea with lemon. Since we knew ahead of time what we were ordering, we gave our appetizers orderes first. We ordered the soup of the day which was the she crab soup. It is highly recommended. We only ordered a cup and not a bowl because we were unsure of how it tasted. The Caesar salad had no anchovie flavor like we are use to and was just medicore. We ordered the meatballs which had lamb and pork in it. They were juicy, tender and just needed a little more seasoning. The Calamari was fried to perfection for me and could've used a pinch of salt. The sweet tea was everything and I would recommend it. For the main entrees, we chose the shrimp and scallop risotto and the beef braised Ragau. There were two scallops and four grilled shrimp and few asparagus with some chopped up bacon. This dish I highly recommend as well. The beef was tender, seasoned and pasta was cooked perfect. Overall, this is a nice and quiet place to dine at anytime. I would recommend and will definitely return again. Jason was on point with his promptness.

It's a sports bar / casual dining and okay for the kids. There's a full bar, plenty of TVs with live sporting events on, plenty of seating indoors, and nice patio seating. It was a little on the chilly side, so you may want to have a light jacket ready. The menu includes hamburger glory (hence the name), appetizers, and some serious drinks. Table service, clean bathrooms ( which is a good indicator of how the kitchen may look), and the decor scream hotel dining. I noticed a steak option on the menu; thinking outside the box, I got that instead - I found out it was not a big seller, but I went with it anyway. The steak was not the best; it made me sick, but Our excellent waitress, Kelly, took it back and let me order something else. In the end, she took off 20% of the price. So they aim to please the customer. The wife had a traditional Breakfast Burger highlighting the breakfast theme--fresh sweet potato fries and onion rings are available, and dill pickle comes with every platter. Please read what's on the burgers; there may be something you don't like or have questions about- they will gladly serve it on the side, eliminate it, or give you extra if you like. Now, they have a variety of chef-crafted burgers, or you can build your own. Burgers are made with ground beef, brisket, or steak cut as a choice. The build-your-own burger option has plenty of options, and I recommend this. Side options are French fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings slaw, and grilled veggies - all served fresh and hot. They reserve the salt, but plenty of condiments are at your table. I didn't notice if they have vegan options, for I am a meat and potatoes man. Ultimately, we paid $54 without a tip, so I added $20 for our exceptional waitress, Kelly, and their overall customer service. There is a full bar and spacious seating, and it is just a great place to watch a sporting event. My numbers are service 10/10, food 8/10, cleanliness 7/10, and 10/10 for the sports bar vibe. It's definitely a great place to visit if you're there and worth a planned visit. I'll be back!! Happy Yelping!!
