My whole family has been going to Winning Smiles for a few years now (my husband, 6-year-old,…read moretoddler, and I). The doctors we've seen have all been great, and the technicians as well. What's better than that just freshly cleaned teeth feeling?! I like that they have a cozier non-typical office/exam room for bringing the littlest one in. We started bringing my 6-year-old in when he turned one, and they do the whole exam in this cute little room with fun stuff on the walls, and carpeted floor, and give them a balloon and rubber ducky on the way out. I love that it's not a typical sterile, white exam room. I think this helped my big boy to not have any aversion to going to the dentist because it started out so nicely this way. Pre-pandemic they had a game room, train table, and super cool mini movie theatre all in the waiting area. Honestly my kid wanted to go just to hang out in there. They also have tvs over every single one of their exam beds, and all the kids beds have fun disney movies playing at any given time - like Nemo, or Toy Story. I have found some bills to be pretty expensive, especially when we were between insurances, as I see others noting below. But luckily (knock on wood), we've not had an emergency or urgent need for any major surgery so routine maintenance with insurance has been as expected.

First time in my life having this dental insurance that alot of dentists dont accept. Bill the patient separately if this dental plan doesn't pay you enough.

Deeply Disappointing Experience:…read more I rarely leave negative reviews, but parents deserve to know what they may be walking into. Our experience at University Pediatric Dentistry has been nothing short of condescending, dismissive, and frankly, deplorable in terms of quality of care. We originally brought my daughter here for routine cleanings. At a previous visit, we were told she needed all of her baby teeth capped because "she didn't have adult teeth underneath," along with multiple extractions. That alone raised red flags, so we went straight to the top prosthodontist at Oishei Children's Hospital for a second opinion. After new X-rays and a thorough exam, the specialist told us her oral hygiene was excellent, the teeth did not need to be capped, and with future orthodontic work we could make a clear plan for prosthetics down the road. She even sent a letter of her findings. We then took that letter to one of the top-rated orthodontists in the area, who fully agreed. Fast forward to our most recent cleaning at University Pediatric Dentistry. The moment we shared the medical findings from Oishei, the hygienist became cold and condescending. Her tone and comments were so inappropriate that my daughter -- who walked in feeling confident and proud of her progress -- ended up in tears. That alone is inexcusable. The dentist then told me he did not agree with either of the other two highly regarded specialists and insisted one tooth "really needed to come out." Fine -- if it needs to be pulled, let's pull it. But he refused to do it in the office. He told me she must go downtown to be fully sedated. I explained I have called that office twice and was told we would need to pay $250 upfront and that it cannot be billed or broken into installments. As a parent living paycheck to paycheck, that is simply not feasible. I asked if we could do it across multiple office visits or discuss alternatives, and he refused. His exact position was that full sedation was "in her best interest," yet he would not treat the child under his care unless it was paid in full, upfront. I keep asking myself: What kind of pediatric dentist claims to be acting in a child's best interest, then refuses to treat her unless the payment structure fits their rules? I was not refusing to pay -- I was asking for a reasonable, humane option. My daughter left this office crying, anxious, and biting her nails after previously feeling relieved and empowered by the doctors at Children's Hospital. No parent should have to watch that. Do not go here. There are far better, more compassionate providers in Buffalo. Your child deserves to feel safe, respected, and cared for -- not dismissed, or shamed. And parents shouldn't leave feeling intimidated.

I explained to them that ive never had this problem in Niagara Falls and my special needs daughter should be referred to Children's where she gets any work done because she has to be sedated and that them not accepting insurance is a very big inconvenience for parents. The supervisor told me they will not do that because they already put the work order in for her there. they were very rude to me over the phone and even hung up on me. They sent me a letter stating that my children will no longer be able to be serviced at their office. Horrible and stressful experience. I wouldnt recommend anyone take their children there. They are very rude and the anesthesiologist doesn't even accept insurance.

Thinking it would be quite the process we were shocked that they took the time out of their already busy scheduleto get her some temporary fillings at the same appointment. Our family of 5 have been patients of Winning smiles for 17 years and we have always loved it there until recently. It is nearly impossible to get through to anyone on the new phone system, billing discrepancies have been handled with threatening letters and texts. We spent hours gathering documentation on a billing issue and the only response was a letter terminating treatment. The only verbal communication that we have had has been argumentative and has provided zero resolution. We have received texts about missed appointments a week before the actual appointments. We were billed $1000 over the amount agreed upon by our insurance, which is in network, the insurance was not billed until 2 years after the start of treatment and the claim is now expired. I waited weeks to write this review in hopes that we would have an explanation or constructive plan to move forward but we only have a letter of termination of care for our daughter and email regarding late payment of an amount that no one at Winning Smiles can explain. Disappointed and sad about such a decline in what was once a great practice.
