Omg wish we read these reviews beforehand placing our child. we removed her less than an a week later. BTW google legal cases against the grove school. There are many and many currently going. They have inadequate staff and not enough of it. The "young" staff also has been caught rewriting events in logs since there are not enough cameras on campus. from shitty dorm staff, who tormented my son, treatment team that didn't do anything- kids not getting punished to stop. they hired a child r8pist and nudist who gave info out to minors online, as a dorm staff in the youngest male dorm. they hire anyone off the damn street. most teachers aren't qualified. your kid isn't allowed in their living space for most of the day, even weekends. if you go to a tour, they make it way better than it actually is. Heck- they usually plan them on a day with an edible food schedule. they have "so many options". for instance, moldy bread in in-opened packages. my son had to throw out 3 in ONE BREAKFAST! they give staff and part time (who are only there for 4hr shifts) out your kids information- even info that we were TOLD would be confidential to my sons treatment team. They DO NOT prepare anyone for graduation. my son stated he wasn't ready, and needed help with that. but from his dormstaff that almost put him over the edge, he couldn't deal with the bullshit. The staff know how to mess with their and your heads as parents. He is lightyears worse than when he got there 3 years ago. being told "You'll hate your life even more as an adult" to "sometimes adults have to do things they don't want to do" (such as not being 'allowed' to be in your dorm, or no getting accommodations he was told he had by his advisor.) they treat students very unfairly, and my son who had no prior eating difficulty, developed practically starving himself to this day. tons of trauma and flashbacks from this place. They manipulated him. Horrible. do NOT SEND YOUR KID HERE!! 20$ + 5$ per pound of laundry, per week sent out. they get it 2 days after, if on a monday. if on friday, they get it 3 days after, on monday. they don't let you shower past 10. my son had medical accommodations on this, and only one dorm staff listened. the other one who didn't, he is still suffering from trauma with, and she was told multiple times on emails my husband and I were shown, countless phone calls as well, that she did not do her job. Year round, 120k+ a year. for profit. sports teams sucks if your kid actually cares about it. this school is a joke TONS more i could mention, but this was stressful enough with flashbacks he's experiencing. My son did great at another therapeutic school but regressed almost entirely at this school. More interested in pushing wokism than following the recommendations of a neuropsychological evaluation. Combination of bullying, lack of monitoring in the transition house and expecting too much too soon really impacted him. They tried to change all his meds to alleviate his mental health issues caused by these issues. He never recovered and they kicked him out before there was any alternative accommodation in place. They labeled him as a risk to himself and others even though he has no history of either. You could get lucky and get a skilled counselor and advisor, but if you don't, it can be bad. Really bad. And they will blame your child and you, and accept no responsibility. They know his to cover their asses, probably because they are currently being sued for neglect (suicide of a child who was not being adequately observed). Stay away. read more

****Affirming only Finishing school for children with Gender Identity issues**** We were warned about this school but thought the warnings were exaggerated or hysterical. They were not. This school is a total waste of time. If they are not a good fit for your child or realize they will be unlikely to help your child, they will NOT tell you. Why? Because $$$ is all they truly care about. They will delay, divert, and stall any hard pressing questions from parents. On the surface everyone is pleasant and courteous but God help you if you question or heaven help you, disagree with anything they are doing. You will be stonewalled for starters. Grove School is a wonderful school that has greatly helped my daughter to realize her full potential. She has been a student at Grove School for more than 2 years and the experience there is transforming her life. The school is staffed by people who are incredibly well trained, compassionate, and smart. I also feel like I benefit very much from the parent workshops that the school conducts. Overall, this is such a unique place that has the potential to greatly help any student (especially pre-teens and teens) who has faced challenges in life, such school refusal, school anxiety, and a broad range of other possible issues that can impact their quality of life and ability to learn and mature. read more

Grove School is an incredibly caring and nurturing school. They have helped my son more than I thought possible.

This school ruined my life. I have problems that I never would have had before. I'm not autistic and all my classmates are on the spectrum and constantly freaking out. I have gotten no help here. The living space is atrocious. The bathroom floor leaks water, and the school doesn't care enough to fix it. In fact, the owner of the school, Richard L. Chorney, just bought a new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, rather than improving the lives of the students at his 'theraputic' boarding school. The Grove School was a very positive experience for those who could appreciate its assets Good therapists well trained and well intended staff and a director gave personal attention to those in need. His personal life pressures may have compromised his behavior after I left but he did a good job while I was there The food was good the fear of abuse none existent and being a boys school removed the pressures of female complications in adolescence. I currently go to grove. it is a good school but only for certain areas of what you are trying to work on. if you are working on an eating disorder DO NOT COME HERE!!!!! If you are working on gender identity DO NOT come here. they make you go to the dorm your gender given at birth is. I am a trans male, and they put me in the GIRLS program. They say a girls and boys program, not exactly a good idea. The staff are very inconsistent and almost everything is done by protocol. The school helps, but can only help to a certain extent. I have reached that and now they are making things harder. There has been sexual assault issues, bullying, physical bullying, homophobia and other things about the LGBTQ community, racism, a lot of sexism. the school does not do well when it comes to dealing with these situations which makes things a lot harder. I've had many friends run away, and they all had different punishments. One person didn't have any except being on super(hard to explain what that is). one person was indefinitely suspended, and was forced to wait 2 and a half weeks to have a meeting with the school about what was going to happen. they first made a meeting, but it was cancelled because the owner, Peter C. was in a different state. you are sometimes stuck to campus, not being able to do anything as a punishment. this is taking some students coping skills away. some of the therapists either fall asleep in therapy, having 10 minute sessions, or invalidate how you are feeling and tell you that you are doing things for attention. you always have people breathing down your neck. they don't take suicidal ideation seriously, unless complained about students and family(publicly brought up) one time I was crying and having a panic attack and I said "I want to fucking kill myself. I'm so done with life" and the staff in the room said "stop cursing or I will give you a detention." nothing else. I don't recommend this school. read more

I was at Grove late 50s-early 60s. It wasn't perfect, but it sure helped me. I was a mess, socially & academically. It got me out of a hellish family situation and did a lot to straighten me out socially. I was acting out in ways that could really have gotten me in forever trouble. Good therapy and a caring staff saved my butt. Director Jack S. Davis was a bit of an authoritarian, but he was sure balanced by Owen Hoover, who was a role model any kid could appreciate. It wasn't coed then and the student body while I was there maxed out at 24, so I don't know if this review will help anyone. read more
