customer service at The Grove Liquor is mad awful, and the owner/manager is the main reason why. This is, without exaggeration, the worst and most hostile store owner I have ever encountered. He does not know how to speak to people-at all. When customers try to calmly and respectfully explain themselves, he cuts them off mid sentence, talks over them, and escalates situations that do not need to be escalated. There is no attempt at listening, understanding, or basic human decency. What makes it worse is the openly hostile and homophobic attitude. It's uncomfortable, inappropriate, and completely unacceptable in a business that serves the public. No customer should feel disrespected or targeted just for existing. Running a store does not give someone permission to be rude, dismissive, or hateful. If you can't treat people with basic respect, you shouldn't be in a customer-facing role--especially not as an owner or manager. Save your money and your dignity. There are plenty of other liquor stores where you won't be talked down to or made to feel unwelcome. read more

This is a really cool liquor store in Lemon Grove. They have a large selection of beer and alcohol. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

***PLEASE READ*** i'm writing this as it happened. About an hour ago I set out to go look for a dietary supplement spray that I use from time to time. The liquor store on El Cajon Blvd and Montezuma that I normally get it from was completely out because they're under new ownership is what the guy told me. So he told me he didn't have it so I drove to the blade liquor store on El Cajon and Rolando where he recommended they may have it. I went there and they had a honey concoction the guy at The Blade told me would have the same results. So I purchased it. I then decided to drive around and talk to a couple of more liquor stores to see if I could find that spray anywhere else because that spray works best and I am the type of customer who doesn't like to change products, if something is working well. so I went to a liquor store on university and Rolando by the AutoZone spoke to them and they told me that they don't have the spray either. So then I went to the liquor store of which this review is about when I walked in. The gentleman was on his phone, like I did with the other liquor stores, I walked in with the product I had purchased elsewhere to ask them if they have something similar to this and then ask them if they have the spray version of it. This man at the Grove on Broadway and Massachusetts was on the phone when I walked in so I had to get his attention and ask him if he had any of, the similar products that I had in my hand that were previously purchased elsewhere. So he grabs it and then scans it and charges me for it. So I told him "no I bought this somewhere else" I want to know if you have the spray version of it. He then told me what is it that you're looking for you're just gonna come in and steal? So we argued back-and-forth and I even asked him to go look at the cameras because I'm not the type of person to steal. I asked him several times to check the cameras and he said he doesn't have access to it. He also made a threat telling me that he has my license plate number and pictures of my face. So I left with my product and on my way home there was a car following me the whole way. Not sure if this man had anything to do with it or not. But During my bicker with this gentleman, I can smell the heavy smell of alcohol on his breath. Clearly this man was drunk. I'm going to follow up on this tomorrow morning with the owner and I want him to review the footage because when the man pointed out to me where those honey packets were, you should be able to see in the video that I walked right past them when I initially walked into the liquor store and didn't even notice them. Never did I even grab the honey packet from that liquor store. I'm going to be pressing charges because this behavior is unacceptable. Stay tuned for an update on this. This has never happened to me. This is unbelievable. *UPDATE 2 days later* I spoke to the store owner. Told him what had happened and apparently his drunk employee hadn't told him anything of what transpired. So I gave him the entire story. He said he would look at the camera and to call him back the next day. So I called the next day. He told me he saw the footage and guess what? I was telling the truth. He said he didn't see anything being stolen and that he wanted to talk to me this Friday. I'll give a final update then. read more

Not your typical liquor store because the customer service is a ten, the prices are very wallet friendly and they usually have music bumping. The store may not be the biggest and the parking lot is tough to maneuver around cuz its so small and its shared with one or two small businesses. There's not too many people hanging around outside like at most liquor stores. They have just about everything you need to have a good party from ice, my favorite vodka Belvedere and a really nice size juice selection. This is definitely my spot when it's time to loosen up. read more

My concience won't allow me to dock a star, because we are loyal customers. But if it weren't for the sociable atmosphere the owners supply, I'd have to dock one just based on the awful, awful parking. This is not their fault of course, so I will not hold it against them. The parking lot is the size of your bathroom, and in a bit of a ditch that is difficult to manuveur. It's also in a bit of a scary stretch of Lemon Grove. However, like the other reviewer states, Tommy and Co are great. They know you by name and always have a smile on their faces. I can't bring myself to buy lotto tickets anywhere else, simply because I want them to get a cut if I ever win. In such a seedy town it's really nice when people greet you with a smile, much less wish you a great weekend...even if it's on a Tuesday. read more

Ok, in a world where there is a liquor store or 7-11 on every corner, you must bring something to the table that seperates you from all the rest. Grove liquor does that. Only place close by that I know carries "Mondoro" champagne. It was recommended to me by "Tommy". This guy has almost every beer you could need, all the spirits you could want, and all the treats any person could devour . Been coming here for years, will continue to come back. read more

Absolutely amazing selection of craft brews. Sure they have the cheap beers, but hey, if you're in need of a great place to pick up some quality craft brews, this is the place to go. Only place I've been to that can try and compete with BevMo in terms of their craft selections. Small place, but gigantic selections.
