My husband and I went to the Farmers Market but before we had to see if La Mesa's Wine and Spirits had Bryan's favorite energy drink. The store is super spacious and open and has a lot of really good options for snacks and bevvys. Straight off the bat I saw individually sold Jumex's hard nectar - 2 for $4, yes please, picking up guava. My husband was not able to find his drink but he did find gummy coke candy, There were also a sample testers from Flying Embers, I love a good cocktail but have found some canned cocktails can have a weird aftertaste but was really pleasantly surprised that theirs was really light and refreshing. I ended up getting the classic margarita and it was so nice, they even gave me merch which I totted around the market. When we were checking out the cashier, was super friendly and even offered our little pup a treat. Kodi is super picky, I'm sorry but we really appreciate the gesture. read more

it isn't often that you get such friendly service in 2024 but the young man behind the counter deserves a huge raise because he makes everyone feel so welcomed. I go in there to get my lottery tickets and won't go anywhere else and I'm actually going to take a ride to pick up some Tito's now. TIKI RUM!!! Who knew this corner liquor store would have Hamilton's rum?! And several types!! AND the collaboration between False Idol and Hamilton??!! Really great selection of rums they even have Plantation. I'd like to see some more rum imports from the Caribbean and Guyana/Demerara, but still a solid selection. I live in Spring Valley near Monte Vista High and I would much rather drive here than all the way to Trader Mort's in Pt Loma. Now if they had Hamilton 86 and the Black Pot Still I would be a fan for life! read more

Nice little liquor store right on the corner so it's a good location but it can be a little slow at times. This is not a small like some places and you can actually walk around without knocking over anything. I usually come here to grab some snacks before heading next door to Hoffer's for a drink. The customer service here is pretty friendly and helpful. I know I'll keep coming around as long as Hoffer's is next door. read more

I love this liquor store, it's within walking distance to where I am temporarily staying at, the owner is so nice and so friendly and has really really stepped up within helping the community during Covid was very helpful during the riots last year especially with helping other businesses clean up. I definitely frequent this place due to their ice cream and non-alcoholic beverages... However there is one person that works there he's just always in a bad mood, I don't know what his name is but I know he has red hair, glasses(sometimes), It really depends on the day... I know that I've gone in there looking like a scrub and I've been treated like crap by him.. i've also gone in there to start coming home from a gala up in LA and he just so happened to be very polite to me. I usually go later in the day, (I work from home) and sometimes I go there 10 minutes before they close I don't know if he's just in a bad mood and wants to get off of work but it makes me feel like I have to literally get my hair done makeup done and wear some skimpy little outfit in order for this one cashier to be nice. I don't trust people very easily I just moved here the last thing I need to somehow you treating me like crap after I just left a very abusive relationship... So I treat others how I would want to be treated and I've never done anything to this person so it's probably just him/how his personality is but I don't know how he got a job there in the first place with that attitude. I certainly would never hire anyone like him to work at my store. Once again, that's my opinion. I have lived in La Mesa for a number of years now, and have never given La Mesa Wine and Spirits the time of day. Not that I think it is bad, just never had any real interest in it. I still would not have, but my BF tried to convince me we were going because they had wine, when I knew full well it had a bunch of beer.. So off we went to look at 'wine' for me... Low and behold what do I see? A huge selection of beer, in the fridge--out on the floor. I am sure my BF was weeping inside at the sight of it. He ended up getting some fancy beer that came in a box, that they had only one left of. When the guy let him know this you could see his heart skip a beat. The gentleman that was there was fun, chatty and had a joke or two. He seemed pretty knowledgeable, and willing to help which was nice. Oh and yeah I got a bottle of wine. They seem to have more higher end ones here, so it isn't a place I could keep coming to on the regular.. but we know this wasn't about the wine anyway... read more

We stopped in this location today while attending the La Mesa Village Oktoberfest. My husband was searching for a beer he enjoyed the day before at "Tsuruya Sushi" restaurant, to our surprise they carried the beer but was out of it. The store was clean and busy today. The staff was friendly and seemed happy for the customer flow from the Oktoberfest. They carry a nice selection of beers, wines and spirits along with various snack foods and lottery tickets. read more

La Mesa Wine & Spirits has been very proactive in supporting the community during the Corona Virus. Marvin has been posting on the La Mesa Happenings facebook page about items they have in stock and their willingness to do free delivery. Today they posted about toilet paper, other hygiene products and of course their alcohol and I figured it wouldn't hurt to give them a call. Marvin answered the phone, took my order and informed me once a second employee was in that they would come deliver my order (in about an hour). They were able to take both card or cash. They called back sooner and I had my toilet paper and wine at my house in 30 minutes from the first call. I'm very happy they're being proactive in helping people self quarantine and look forward to purchasing wines from them in the future. :) Thank you!! read more

I think this place is a great local gem! Moving recently from Banker's Hill / Hillcrest, we had our fair share of liquor stores and cool hipster shopping. But you know what? La Mesa Wine & Spirits is completely up to par! Nice staff who are knowledgeable about the selections in the store. Store is always well-stocked, clean and easy to navigate. Focus is on beer (local), with decent selection of wine as well. Pricing on all is reasonable/expected. Many are kept in the cooler (though not exactly "cold"). A few sundries are also available (red bull, gum, ice cream bars). Definitely a place to grab something on the way to a friend's dinner party, home after a long week of work, or to stock up for a dinner party. Fun shopping! read more

when you finally realize Bevmo costs more than they pretend to, go here! Huge enormous array of everything ever fermented and at decent prices. These guys actually know their product and answered some of my most annoying beer geek questions without hesitation. I am sitting here wondering whether yelp has software to detect potential money opportunities in unsavory ads or if some poor guy in a cellar in Lebanon reads every review looking for negative remarks? This place had a good selection of craft beers anywhere from Stone specialty releases to Bruery, Avery, Lost Abbey stuff. Look around as there may be some limited or vintage stuff hidden! They've got some pretty good bourbons sitting around. However the LIMITED ones can def. be WAY OVERPRICED. But that's secondary market value and some people would be willing to pay it, not me. Lots of wines here but I'm not a big fan so I don't really know what they have. Parking is kinda tough here, bring some change to pay for the meters. Pretty good liquor shop but be willing to spend more than a pretty penny coming in. read more

Marvin is a SUPER nice guy ( *and his little dog too!*). He offered me a pinot grigio (Blue Fish) chilled. Very pleasant. Turns out that this wine comes highly recommended among wine connoisseurs, AND he provides this wine at one of the LOWEST PRICES ANYWHERE on the Internet.
