She was extremely knowledgeable about the rain forest and Puerto Rico in general. We used 2 buses and the 2nd driver was equally as knowledgeable. The title pretty much gives you a clear idea what the tour was about. It took us around San Juan. We saw different sights like the Antiguo Prision de la Princessa, the Paseo de la Princesa, Fuente Raices, Paseo de Los Presidentes, Castillo San Felipe Del Morro and many other sights. The driver did Mariza did a great job getting to the places we visited safely and timely. She did a great job navigating those streets and getting us as close to the places as possible so that we would not have to walk much. Our tour guide Aponte was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He made the tour even more interesting than it already was. Great tour! I would recommend it for anyone who has never been to Puerto Rico as it gives you a good jumping off point to understand the history and admire the beauty of this beautiful island!

Jorge was great from the beginning, told us about growing up in Puerto Rico and asked us questions about where we were from as well. I was really looking forward to this tour, since it was described as exploring through areas that even some locals don't know about. It was truly off the beaten path. We started with a short hike to a beautiful waterfall, jumped off a cliff into the water below, and also had a nature lesson from Jorge as he explained the different plants/trees in Puerto Rico. We had lunch in the El Yunque rainforest at a little shop that had incredible views. Then continued along to hike through the rainforest to see five different waterfalls. Julian was our driver and tour guide into this quaint small town with a Caribbean vibe and gave us the right amount of peace and quiet but information to keep us entertained and interested. We were definitely able to see the micro Organisms in the water The evening came upon us. We even had little toddlers and babies with us and he was very patient when they were crying in the right there. He gave us the time that we all needed in the the water to experience the magic. A nice dinner was a pleasant surprise before we hit sunset and got on the boat. Our cost was $398 for a couple. Pretty steep, but a once in a lifetime experience.

This was, without a doubt, the highlight of our PR vacation! I stumbled upon this through some…read moreTrip Advisor reviews and learned that the reserve offers an environmentally-friendly way to see the bio-luminescence. In addition to being environmentally-friendly, it is also cost-effective! Let me tell you more! First of all, the reserve offers a lot of different tours and activities but the one I am writing about is the evening lighthouse tour and hike through the bio-luminescent lagoon. If you wish to the tour I did, I recommend booking it online in advance because this tour WILL sell out. It is SO awesome. When we first arrived to the reserve, we parked our Jeep and checked in. It was very easy checking in. We then covered ourselves head to toe in bug spray which I HIGHLY recommend. Then we walked around the main "office" of the reserve and we got to see a beautiful sunset over the ocean. Everything was so pretty! Once we had everyone checked in for the tour, we got on an open-air shuttle with a group of about 16 people. Our tour guide, Francisco, told us a lot about PR and about the natural habitat and what the reserve is doing to preserve and restore it. Our first stop was the Faro Fajardo (Fajardo Lighthouse). This was gorgeous. We got to go inside this historical building and climb to the top and look out and see so many beautiful sights. The stars and moon were incredible and we also could see our resort as well as many other points in PR. We learned so much about Fajardo and about the ecological systems in that area. After leaving the lighthouse, we went on this long walk in the dark on this really sturdy wooden path that led through mangrove trees and out into this beautiful lagoon. It was so beautiful and you could hear the song of the coquis. Once out at the end of the walkway, we were given long sticks that we were able to use to swirl the water around and see the sparkling bio-luminescence. It was amazing! It was so beautiful and we learned so very much. It also meant a lot to us that the money we spent on the tour was going towards the greater good of protecting the natural environment in Puerto Rico. I cannot say enough about how wonderful this place is. We wanted to go back during the day but didn't have enough time on our most recent trip so we have it on our to-do list for next time. If you do anything in PR, check this place out!

Inexpensive ($12 - $22pp) tours offered by this 316 acre nonprofit nature park (just down the road…read morefrom Seven Seas Beach and the restaurant Costa Mia) are great value for anyone interested to learn about the variety of ecological systems of Puerto Rico. The Reserva Natural Las Cabezas de San Juan provides guided tours of (among other things) the 3 types of area mangrove forests, the famed Laguna Grande bio-bay, some less traveled beaches and reefs, an active archaeological site, and El Faro, the 1882 Spanish white lighthouse on the top of the tallest point with spectacular 360 degree views around Fajardo. Our family attended a 9:30a tour of the park which included a tram trip to the lighthouse with stops to explore the mangroves and a rocky, windy beach. Our local tour guide and geologist by trade, Francisco, was very friendly and knowledgeable about all aspects of the reserve and was a wealth of information about Puerto Rico in general, as well. Although our tour was scheduled to be in Spanish, Francisco quickly switched to English when it was clear that all attendees were from the mainland U.S.. We were glad to have brought water, hats, and umbrellas, as there were some portions of the tour in the hot sun. Evening walking bio-bay tours (where you stay on a board walk and activate the dinoflagellates via long poles) tend to fill up weeks to months in advance, so visit the park's website (it has an English version) and make your reservation as soon as you know your travel dates. This can be a great option for travelers who are not interested in kayaking to the bay or would like a quieter, more "one with nature" experience. If you try this, be sure to cover yourself with mosquito repellant, as the bugs are relentless in the mangroves. FYI, Francisco says that the best time of year to view the brightest bio-bay action are from March to July, and you should try to go when the moon is not full; he also says that Mosquito Bay on Vieques is really the best bio-bay, so go there if you have the time. We were very disappointed to find that the park's gift shop was unable to process any transactions during our visit (prime tourism season over the winter break). We were told, "Oh, we just did inventory for the year, so we can't make any more sales." ¿Qué? This was such a shame given that the nonprofit certainly needs funds to further their work and they missed out on more than $500 in sales from the tour attendees during our visit alone (all of whom would have gladly purchased a $20 t-shirt and other items after hearing our guide's convincing spiel about how we could help preserve this ecological wonder). Perhaps this story illustrates some of the economic problems PR is facing.... FYI, the park's entrance is guarded and gated, but it may be a surprise to hear that the beaches surrounding the park as well as the interior's bio-bay are required by law to be accessible to the public. This means that if you are adventurous, you can follow the beach trail from in front of the Costa Mia restaurant until you reach a path that runs right into the bio-bay.

Great time! Highly recommend it!…read more It was every bit as good as their website and yelp reviews made it look. If you're in PR and physically-fit enough to climb the trails, this is a must-see! I read the other reviews here, but I have some more to add. First of all, our driver was exactly on-time (unlike others who were surprised by early arrivals). Can't beat punctuality! We had to make several stops (obviously, we had purchased the package that included transportation from one of the San Juan hotels). But it wasn't bad and the ride from the beach to the park was 45 minutes, including stops at two other hotels. Once there, you'll get to use the restrooms (bano's) if you want before being directed down to a trailer to sign a waiver and pay (if you didn't bother to pay in advance.) Compared to what I paid for the in-advance-internet price, the walk-up rate was $7/person more. There was some more waiting around before getting fitted for a harness and then some MORE as we waited for a large enough group to assemble before heading down the trail. I really want to stress this part, as there were several older guests in the group and they struggled with the trails. At the beginning, you descend some ragged/un-improved trails down to the first line. There WERE some thin ropes to show you the trail and I guess you could hold them, although I think if you really put your weight on them, the poles would have just fallen over. There were a lot of loose rocks and dirt, but eventually everyone got down the trail to the briefing area. I don't think my mom, or anyone not "sure-of-foot" would have made this descent... There was a briefing given in both Spanish and English and they made the final adjustments to our harnesses (which had been left loose to allow us to hike down the trail). About photos: I REALLY appreciated that they weren't trying to squeeze more money out of us at every turn with compulsory pictures or "add-ons". Hell, they don't even sell souvenirs, so if you're thinking of getting a memento, you can forget about it. So, better bring a camera that is either small enough to go in your (zippered/buttoned) pants pocket, or you had better have one that has a strap to put around your neck. YOU WILL NOT be taking pictures while ziplining!!!!! You MUST wear heavy raw-hide gloves on both hands throughout the trip, although there are someplaces where you can step aside and remove your gloves to snap a picture or quick video. The alternative is a "Go-Pro" or other helmet-mounted camera. The helmets they make you wear have places to connect your Go-Pro straps. DO NOT be like the jackass in front of us who thought he could ignore the safety instructions and take his hands off the harness and line. He immediately flipped upside down and easily could have dropped his equipment or injured himself. Use a helmet-cam or take pictures when safely stopped. 'nuf said! As mentioned in other reviews, there is NO PLACE to securely store your valuables, so don't bring any! If you don't have a zippered pocket or pouch that you can put around your neck, just leave stuff at home/hotel/car. And now the staff: They couldn't have been any nicer! What a great group of young people. There is staff at EVERY point in your journey. There's at least one person (highly trained) at EVERY platform, at the beginning and the end. And of course, back at the base station to help you with your equipment. Most are completely bi-lingual, but a few aren't fluent enough to carry-on a casual conversation. Even those folks spoke enough English to guide you thru safety procedures or changing from one line to another. Seriously, nothing but praise for these men and women. They were great. We put a $20 in the tip-box to thank them. Bottom line, we've ridden a number of (much) smaller ziplines, but nothing like this. 8 lines!!!! Awesome views, easy procedures, friendly staff! Loved it! We would do this again on a future trip.

This was an awesome experience! It was our first time to Puerto Rico and first time ever zip…read morelining. We booked through Sam, who was great! He was super accommodating and kind. He picked us & another couple up at the hotel and the trip was about 20-25 min to get there. He even met our Beyonce playlist requests :) haha! There were 8 lines and the staff was great. I think this is a good spot for first timers. It's not overwhelming, but still high up with beautiful views. It was also cool because we stopped at a butterfly/tropical bird garden on our way before we hiked down (only 10 min hike) to the zip lines. We got some beautiful pictures. After we were done Sam recommended a great authentic little food stand that we stopped at on the way back to the hotel. It was so good! Overall, it was worth every penny. Manuel was also awesome, but so was all of the staff that helped really. They really put us at ease and were great with safety. A 9 year old girl was even in our big group and was totally fine. Had a great time!
