Ground Support is a great coffee shop that manages to be cozy without being too small. There's plenty of picnic bench-like seating spread across two rooms, and a tiny outdoor area for when the weather's nice. The only drawback right off the bat is that the place is freaking freezing. Maybe it's not time to turn the heat on yet, but bbbbrrrrrr. I work from this coffee shop a lot, so I appreciate the free Wi-Fi. Also, they make excellent lattes with cute little designs on top - gets me every time. The drip coffee I believe is Intelligentsia. Whatever lemonade they have is addictive; I think I have a lemonade problem. Good thing it's from some random organic farm stand, or else I'd be bringing that problem home with me. Add to the drinks their delicious sandwiches (grilled cheese, Cuban sandwich are recommended) and this is a great little spot with really nice baristas. This place is buzzing with excitement and dare I say attractively eye pleasing folks. The cost wasn't terrible, I mean for a fresh lemonade and sandwich. Unfortunately had my own health not been an issue I probably would of enjoyed my experience much more. Cons: the bread was a little too stiff and hard on the teeth. I'm not 80 but It was like biting into a rock. I did think the paper bagged to go option was a cute idea. Reminded me of waiting for my sack lunch as a child. La Colombe has been my undefeated favorite coffee spot in SoHo, but Ground Support is pretty darn good! If you find yourself on the West-side of SoHo, you won't be able to find a better cup of coffee or a cuter venue than Ground Support. I overall appreciated the rustic atmosphere and particularly loved the park bench that is inside the shop and faces the window so you can people watch while being sheltered from the elements! read more

Ground Support is a nice cafe serving excellent coffee from Chicago based Intelligentsia Coffee. Great espresso based beverages and they also make good Chemex brews. The coffee is very good value for money to be in New York (small drip coffee less than $2 and Chemex,gives between 3 or 4 cups for less than $5) and the breakfast selection is pretty good. I like the yogurt and my fiancee loved the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The hot sandwiches also seem to be popular but I never tried them. 4.5**** I got a regular coffee and warmed up by their park benches. I don't really know what I mean by this, but it has such a SoHo feel to the place. The people who drop by are definitely familiar with this area or are workers on their lunch breaks. The baristas are nice, the place is not too small (definitely not big and spacious), and the atmosphere invites people who are doing work. SoHo's cafes are usually quite cramped, but Ground Support is a comfy coffee shop with adequate seating, great coffee, wifi, and a restroom. It's a great place to work. You might have to share a table with other people but there's plenty of room. I love that there's plenty of natural light throughout the place. It's really pleasant. My cappuccino was pretty good too. I didn't try the food, but the menu consists of several sandwiches and (a single) salad. There are also a few pastries available. read more

Surprisingly for a coffee shop and a coffee shop in Soho, not only is their coffee great, but they have excellent sandwiches. I usually get the grilled cheese which is everything you love in a piece of pizza but in a neater package. The other day I got the turkey sandwich that contained, among other things, potato chips and barbeque sauce. The Cubano looks great too but that will have to wait for my next visit. The paper wrapping also makes their sandwiches stand out. The drawback of this place is that there are tons of theoretical places to sit but people with laptops there don't seem to think that they are often taking up 3-4 spaces with all their papers, bags, food, coffee etc. It wouldn't be so bad if they were only there for a litle while. Maybe the employees and police them gently, show them that they need to share the space. read more

Ground Support has truly excellent coffee, and if that's all you get and walk right back out the door you'd have a five star experience. The drip coffee is delicious and nourishing and the americano actually yields to milk really well, taking the edge off the strength without muting the flavor. But something just rubs me the wrong way about the place. The space is visually perfect, airy and light filled with rough wood benches, but it's actually pretty uncomfortable if you're staying. I was miffed that the sandwiches were premade and 9+ dollars, and it's a little weird to have barbecue sauce on a cold sandwich (Turkey Picnic). And I don't know, this particular sliver of the neighborhood is not my scene. I have never seen more women in high heels or dudes in all black but with surfer haircuts. There are a few places where I don't want to be subjected to the impossibly beautiful and immaculately put together. Gyms, doctor's offices, and coffee shops are among them. This is more of a case of it's just not for me rather than objective quality, but it just doesn't get my bull running like other places in the area. read more

I stumbled upon this place while wandering on W. Broadway in Soho. It's a very cute, chilled out coffee place. Loved the fact that they have benches outside where people can just lounge around. I ordered an iced latte and a grilled cheese. I was absolutely blown away by my grilled cheese sandwich. It was made on sourdough pullman brean, had roasted tomato, caciocavallo and fresh basil. Perfectly grilled and cheesy. Very scrumptious. The iced late was ok, nothing special. Maybe i ordered the wrong drink. I was just not sure what i wanted. They have wooden tables and benches, community style. The place is nice and cozy. Work, chat, gossip all over a cup of coffee!! Will definitely go back to it! read more

They do have tea, the chai is weak and not my favorite - it's almost too sweet. I've recently been on a green tea with fruit kick and that has been wonderful and awfully tasty. Wow, had no idea I could find a good coffeeshop like this in Soho. Coffee is excellent (please try the honey latte) and there is a decent amount of space to sit around and get work done. There are a limited number of outlets, but if you sit there long enough, a space with access to one will probably pop up. Decor is typical hipstertastic niceness, and the barristas are exactly what you would expect for a place like this. Yes, there are millions of tourists, but at least it means that you will constantly be surrounded by different languages. And I find that the tourists also don't tend to stay that long, meaning there is more space for grad students like me who just want to hole up and get work done. :) read more

I come here for lunch quite a bit. It's a great, quick place to get a good sandwich. It's a little on the spendy side ($12-15 for sandwich and a drink) but in the area you can't do a whole lot better. The food is solid - I do the ham & cheese triple stack or turkey picnic. Ah, finally writing another review. Thought I was a goner for sure from this thing. If you are up early in the morning, and you wanted something to wake you up, this wouldn't be a bad choice. I only managed to savor a cookie which was okay decent. It did taste homemade so that's definitely a plus. It is a bit pricey for a coffee shop but still a better choice than the usual prepackaged cookie. Why am I even comparing? ^^ I was hurrying so I only got to have a cookie. I wish I had a drink so I can really give this place a proper rating. I give this three stars for the food but four cos' of the location and atmosphere. It's a great coffee shop with plenty of seating and enough lights that allow for you to read, study or get work done. There are picnic style benches towards the back and bar seating near the back as well. I was there for a quick coffee date. The place was intimate enough that we could have conversations and get to know each other without being suffocatingly amorous. I'm a huge coffee addict and thought the coffee was great but they had a limited of different kinds of brew. Don't get me wrong this coffee shop had the different styles of coffee - macchiato, latte, cappuccino and etc. But there were not different types of brews which put a bit of a damper on my coffee experience here. read more

Coffee tastes impeccably pure, but it's a 'gotcha' moment, when you have to cop the size of midget cups.. Lumberjack-ish staff in Che Guevara caps; could interact more with patrons, instead of fooling around. Door left open on freezing winter days. I came here today with a friend and grabbed a almond milk latte. My, oh my! it was the most delicious and lush coffee I've had in awhile, enjoyed it without sugar and had an extra skip in my step as we walked around Soho. Today I ran in out of the rain with my infant and my family from out of town and the guy wearing the red bandana behind the counter told us the place was full and couldn't serve us. He made us feel like we should leave after we just got there. I understand it's a busy spot but some basic customer service would have been nice. Oh man, I am so disappointed that I didn't enjoy this place at all :/ I found this cafe on a list online for "best coffee shops to get work done", and I am someone that if I need to get work done, I will block out an entire 8 hours to be at a coffee shop to get it done. And today was one of those days. But the WiFi at the cafe was so spotty - I can not even download a zip file and it takes up to a minute to load a page. During peak hours around 2pm, the entire place is packed with people. There is so little seating that people are having full on conversations just standing around in the coffee shop. I think the WiFi is also dependent on how many people were using it, it literally just stopped working. I looked over to the lady next to me, her pages were also not loading, and I had to leave to go to a Starbucks to finish my tasks. My friend seems to like the Iced Chai. The bathroom is kind of small and you have to grab a key from the front. This is a great place to grab a drink to go or meet up with friends. Ground Support is once of my go to coffee shops when I'm in Soho. The clean and airy space inside makes it a refreshing sit-down spot away from the hustle and bustle outside. More importantly, the coffee and snacks that are offered are absolutely delicious. During my last visit, I shared with my boyfriend a cappuccino, grilled cheese and a chocolate chip cookie. We demolished it all pretty quickly while sitting by the bar and watching one of the workers grind peanuts to make peanut butter. If you enjoy watching people make food and doing cool things like grinding peanuts, grab a seat by the bar. Otherwise, I would try and get a seat in one of the benches facing the street that is perfect when the sun is out. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area! This place serves up some great beverages, and it was a great find on a sleepy Monday afternoon. We placed an order for two Americanos and they were made in about five minutes in spite of a hectic and crazy influx of tourists and locals alike. They have a great system that prints out your name and order on a sticker that they place on your drink, a much better and less flawed system than Starbucks or any other coffee/tea equivalent. The Americanos were strong and tasty, and all the other food/drinks that I saw looked great. The atmosphere, in spite of being packed, was a modern coffee shop with metal tables, sky lights, and ample seating in terms of most coffee houses. There were a lot of NYU students studying in the midst of the craziness. This would be a great place to go to during non-peak hours. read more

A great place for those seeking almond milk lattes without bitter espresso (I'm looking at you, Le pain quotidian). The pastry selection is varied and interesting, including some tempting chocolate cookies, but if these don't draw your attention, there is always laduree across the street for some macarons and eclairs. The seating located in the back (outdoors, and presumably only available in warm weather), is quaint and welcome. First: this place has one of the sleeper best sandwiches in NYC - THE VEG. Don't be discouraged because it doesn't have ham and all that. This sandwich is insanely good - the crunch of the cauliflower, the creamy pickle mayo, the shredded greens, and excellent, excellent bread (where is it from?!) Decided to stop in here randomly for a coffee break and so glad I did! I ordered their almond latte and had the "veg" sandwich. The almond latte was nice and smooth and a good temperature when it came out. The "veg" sandwich was the true standout for me though -- fresh, healthy, loved the crunch of the cauliflower and the flavor of the radish.
