Calm, yet unfriendly. Professional and cleanly decorated shop, yet unprofessional and amateur dog grooming. If you have a labradoodle, avoid this place. To be fair, I should have trusted the instinct alarms and left the place upon meeting the first employee, but I thought I would give it a try.
I brought my two miniature Australian labradoodles to this shop for the first (and last) time the other day.
I arrived exactly on time, but was not greeted when I entered. The young girl looked at my dogs and me without smiling. She didn't ask their names, or what breed they are. Even after they calmed down, she didn't try to pet them or greet them.
She asked what type of grooming I wanted, and pointed to a little chart showing length of clippers. I emphasized they should keep their long coats and clean their ears and not cut their eyelashes. She didn't make notes or seem to register what I was saying. Instead she gulped from an oversized can of iced tea and chewed on a cookie with her mouth open. (The employee, not my dogs).
As I drove away, I was annoyed by the rudeness, but once I calmed down I rationalized her behavior by realizing she was calm and didn't get my dogs excited. This is a big plus.
But then the moment I saw them when I went to pick them up, my heart sank. They had merely taking the clippers to them. It is the equivalent of taking your daughter to the most expensive salon in town and them just giving her a buzz cut. Even then, the cut is choppy and uneven. To emphasize, they left the hair on their head long (see the pics).
Labradoodles are known for their silky, soft hair. What was this groomer thinking. Maybe she knew what she had done, because the groomer/owner didn't even introduce herself or make any comments on my dogs. She left it up to her rude employee to take the cash.
So, flustered, I took out my wallet to pay, and that's when they tell me they only take cash or cheque. For two dogs, for a crappy cut, it was $156. I had to drive to the bank and back. Yes, I should have protested right then and there. Yes, I know it's passive aggressive to go and write this online instead of telling them directly.
I'm writing this in the hope that others will avoid this place too. Try Bark Avenue instead. I stopped going there because they don't have space to let the dogs be free when they're no on the table, so they are crated. But Stephen gives by far the best cuts around. read more
