The trip to this Dollar Tree store, on the corner of Canal and Division in King City, started out…read moreas a convenient rest stop just off the 101 Fwy in the middle of a long trek from Monterey to Bakersfield and ended up with me wandering out with several grocery bags full of bargains. I don't know what it is about Dollar Tree that keeps me from being able to pass up going inside. No, I know EXACTLY what it is. It is the ridiculously cheap prices on a huge variety of items for both my home and my classroom. Teachers spend large amounts of money on their classrooms every year, and Dollar Tree helps me get the most bang for my buck. I buy so many things for my classroom. I buy school supplies such as pencils, erasers, markers, highlighters, and composition notebooks. In their toy department I pick up all kinds of little goodies for my prize box. If you're a college student trying to furnish a dorm room (or a graduate furnishing your first apartment) you can outfit yourself with plates, bowls, glassware, silverware, and a whole plethora of kitchen gadgets, all at affordable prices. Planning a party means you can save big on color coordinated paper plates and cups and plastic silverware and tablecloths. Party favors, rubber balloons, and helium filled mylar ballrooms are also dirt cheap. You can buy wrapping paper, ribbons, bows, brightly colored gift bags, and even greeting cards. You can buy just about any cleaning product you need to clean just about everything in your house. And then buy everything you need to keep yourself clean and smelling nice, too. You know those refrigerated sodas in plastic bottles that cost $1.75 at the convenience stores? Reach into their cooler and you'll walk away with your Diet Coke for only $1. On this particular visit I picked up a variety of goodies for my classroom, some candy (YES, they have a pretty decent selection of name brand candy) and a Diet Pepsi for the road. Yay for Dollar Tree breaking up a long and tiring trip with some good old-fashioned bargain hunting.

Obviously the customers were slobs which was very disappointing. But the staff obviously didn't care what their store looked like. They weren't even attempting to pick things up. I wanted to roll up my sleeves & offer to help. It was just bizarre.
