I stopped in here with my husband the other day, on a long road trip where I wanted a deli sandwich for lunch. We chose Safeway, though there are other nearby options. I enjoyed browsing the produce and bakery items and ended up buying more than the sandwich, chips and drink that I intended. The restroom wasn't perfect but it was useable and I didn't have to wait. Aisles were all well-stocked and the produce and flowers looked especially good. The staff was friendly and polite, and parking is easy. The location is not far off the 101 so it's easy to get to. read more

I actually want to leave zero star! Our first time shopping at Safeway in King City ~ we are new to the area & decided to see IF this would be our regular weekly grocery shopping Store. Well IT MOST DEFINITELY WILL NOT BE! Selena the Cashier was rude; throwing out grocery items towards my Husband whom was bagging our groceries.... She threw an onion right on top of my cilantro! We spent over $200! After I paid with our card, she turned her back and never even said thank you! She proceeded to check out the lady that was behind us, and she only had three items, and my husband and I were still trying to bag up our groceries ~ she just kept continuing scanning the customer behind us stuff Selena would not even let us finish bagging our groceries! Jacob at the deli made my sandwich perfectly- used fresh ingredients and asked a few times during the process if I had any other requests for my customization to make sure he got my order right. You know this Safeway is bad when they never carry what you need and FoodsCo in Soledad does. No heavy whipping cream ever, no sirracha, no buttermilk ranch dressing from litehouse ever, doesn't make hot sandwiches like the Safeway in Salinas does. Do better. read more

Encountered the most rude checker ever a the King City Safeway. Was given a tattered $20 bill in change and therefore requested a bill that was not torn in half. Was refused by the checker Destiny who had a very bad attitude and said I would need to go to the service desk. Nobody was at the service desk. Had to request that the manager be called to get this resolved. Safeway need to hire checkers who have some sense of customer service. This was a very negative experience, and Safeway should not let a checker with a bad attitude to reflect so poorly on the store. read more

This Safeway Store, just off the 101, is a very nice one with friendly employees, nice decor, and a great selection of food items. There is a Redbox DVD rental machine just inside the front door next to Wells Fargo ATM. The floral department is large and full of beautiful arrangements. You can also purchase helium filled mylar balloons. The produce department is large and the produce is big, glossy, and beautifully displayed. There are wood floors and mood lighting to set the mood for your romance with food. And, hey, it's all "fresh from the fields"; the sign says so. The perky and oh-so-positive signs also announce that everything in the dairy department is "pure & wholesome". While that would be my first assumption, it certainly doesn't hurt to highlight that fact. Well, at least it's more pure and wholesome than what's in the cookie aisle. The Deli provides "great lunches". It HAS to be true, the sign says so. Large, colorful, and artfully lit pictures of deli foods adorn the walls of the moodily lit Deli area. Seriously, set up a little cafe table with chairs and a candle and this department is the perfect spot for a romantic rendezvous. The soda fountain in deli area offers Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Barqs, Sprite, and Coke, a pretty decent selection. I picked up a package of Surimi Combo Sushi rolls with brown rice to take back on the road with me as a nice little healthy lunch. There was no self service line, but the cashiers were very friendly and kept the lines moving. read more

I'd make it lower if I could but that apparantly is not an option. Have lib ved in this town all my life and this store continues to go down hill. Shelves are not stocked well at all. Most of the help is ruse with a couple of exceptions.. The store is dirty and when u ask for help you recieve non helpful answers. The staff is constantly changing as the baggers are rotated thru and let go in a few weeks. The checkers have all been rotated thru from other stores and definitely don't like getting stuck in king city. The managers don't last any more than a few months as they put their transfer in as soon as they arrive. For a major company trying to keep competition from coming in, they had better clean up their act!!!! Please also note they have not posted any recent reviews andI'm sure there are a number of them as the community is not happy with this store. Lets see if this gets posted. read more

We stopped into this Safeway on our drive back up to S.F. from So. Cal specifically looking for dried hibiscus flowers (to make Jamaica/hibiscus flower tea with). No luck. The helpful employee let us know that they'd discontinued the sale of them in as large of a package as we needed. However, we did find that they had an excellent tortilla selection. In addition to carrying the standard brand that is widely carried by Safeway (Mission Tortillas) they had two other more locally produced brands. Overall, they had a great selection of Mexican brands/products and a decent Asian product selection as well. read more

Very friendly and attentive. This Safeway lives up to the good name of this chain of supermarkets. The store is clean, organized and well stocked with all the consumables one would need when shopping for food or drink. An added plus is the customer service from the front door to the cash register, they were all very nice and accommodating. Ordered a plain naked cake with simple pink writing on the top . Specifically said nothing on it no flowers nothing . I picked up a cake with dark blue ,light blue and white I don't even know what to call them ? Dots? Specks? Crap all over the cake . a white somewhat border that looked like my toddler did it with the crappiest writing in it . Too late to complain cus the cake was needed ASAP . Okay since my last terrible visit I have been back a few times. The one very condescending clerk from then is still there, but I have only seen him/her stocking and doing stuff on the floor, not at the register. he/she is personable now. The other rude clerk I have not seen since. No other negative interactions with employees since then, they all seem helpful and friendly. Store looks a little cleaner, haven't had as many problems with items being out of stock. I guess I would now rate it acceptable but I am moving out of the area and going to a place where there is a Trader Joe's nearby and a lot of outdoor farmer's markets and a Smart and Final. I'm a local here and usually when I go they are very friendly, however yesterday when I went the cashier that assisted me was very rude. It looked like he didn't want to assist me. I belive his name is William? I'm not sure. After I paid he didn't hand me my bags and when I politely asked him to hang me my bags he looked at me and gave me a rude look. As he handed me the bags he gave me a smirk it's like it bothered him. I went again that same day because I forgot something. As soon as he saw me he gave me really bad looks. I agree with those who also shop at FoodCo in Soledad; food prices are definitely cheaper there. Also, since this Covid-19 crises, I've noticed a change in attitude (for the worse) among the employees at Safeway...namely the checkers. The meat dept. fellas are great! Also, there are never enough checkers or employees in the aisles to answer questions. As others have also said, this store is about the only game in town, so arrogance is a virtue. read more

I have to tell you the produce here is AMAZING. I had just shopped out a weekend of food for 16 and stopped here on the way to our campsites to grab a bit more ice! Well one pass through the produce section and i found better prices and top quality and I will use this store when ever I am coming through the area! The Just 4 U system is seriously flawed. It often doesn't work. Most of the employees are good about issues that occur from using the Safeway card. However, there are a few that are rude. There is no excuse for treating customers badly. It can be an inconvenience for everybody involved when an issue needs to be fixed... but at least the employees get paid to deal with it. Also, they always seem to be out of things that are on special. When items are not on sale, they are usually over-priced. One thing that I enjoy about the store is the majority of the employees are very friendly and helpful. But it only takes having to see one or two that are not to ruin your shopping trip. read more

Another place in King City that doesn't take business hours serious. If you're thinking of stopping in before work for a breakfast wrap, or a box a donuts for your co-worker, don't. Neither the deli or bakery know how, or seem to care to open on time. The deli worker will even keep the lights off in the deli to dissuade customers from trying to order something, and the bakery never has donuts in the case before 7am. read more

Horrible produce! Rotten fruits and veggies. How does this happen in the Salinas valley where all you see are crops?! When you tell them, they don't seem to care. My girlfriend & I were passing through this town on the way up to San Francisco tonight, and decided to make a quick stop at this grocery store. Immediately upon walking in, the only cashier there greeted us as we walked in, even though he was helping other customers. Then later as we were checking out, the same employee was extremely nice & genuine to us, and literally every guest passing through the line... For me to take this time to write a review from my hotel tonight, you know the service made a lasting impression. Give that guy a raise! Horrible service. 3 lines open at 5pm on a Monday. 5-6 customers in each line and the manager shuts down one of the express lines. I asked him to open another line due to the amount in each line. They have signs everywhere saying if 3 are in a line we will gladly open another line. He says his employees need their break right now and refuses to open another line in complete disregard to what the signs say. I wish there was another grocery store close, they know they have the only option around and don't have to try to be better. read more

Your typical Safeway, except that the employees here are more friendly than average. The produce section however, is sometimes lacking on stock and the prices aren't always competitive. Also, there seems to almost always be a very long wait to check out. read more
