Affiliated with the Sturdy Oil Company (multi-generational, family-owned petroleum distributor…read morebased in Salinas, California), this single gas station in Monterey CA clearly showed lower gas prices than the other stations in the area. The pay-at-the-pump CC price was $5.65 a gallon which (unfortunately) was much lower than the others in the area. We stopped by before 07:00, beating the rush that other reviewers warned about. And they are correct, the entrance/exit is awkward and its not easy to get in/out (especially since the hoses are not the long variety, forcing you to park on the same side as your gas tank).

Going later in the evening, there were plenty of open pumps. The location is still odd- it's across the street near the car dealerships.

I had a carne asada torta from here today, and it is the best carne asada torta I have ever had…read more The carne asada there is amazing. It's not chewy and full of tendons and grissle like most other places in Salinas. It is tender and so full of flavor. Also they are not stingy with it that's for sure. My torta was stuffed full! I can't wait to try what else they have. Yum! Update: I went back a week later at dinner time and purchased carne asada burritos and another carne asada torta. The meat was not good at all. It tasted old and overly reheated. Almost jerky like. I was bummed because I was really craving what I got the last time. I won't completely dismiss this place, and because of that first incredible torta I'll only reduce my rating to 4, but I'm definitely going to try again at another lunch break. I'll stay hopeful and post results
