Inside the cycle room

GritCycle has been in Costa Mesa for more than a decade and you can definitely tell why this place continues to be relatively busy even when the indoor cycling trend is diminishing. The quality and consistency of the instructors is always appreciated and I love that the focus at Grit is on community and not just about doing crazy choreography on a bike that goes nowhere. Now, as with any group fitness class, there's some instructor playlists you vibe with more than others, so that's for you to determine as a rider what vibe matches yours. All I can say is don't call it quits after taking only one class and one instructor as every class is similar but every instructor brings their own unique energy to the room. The cycle room itself has these very zen dim blue lights which most of the instructor use to set the mood throughout class and the cold towels at the end are definitely the perfect ending to an excellent 45 min class. They have one shower available at the Costa Mesa studio, a water filling station, restrooms, a small vanity area to blow dry your hair, etc.

My first class at GritCycle was on Thanksgiving morning and it was honestly pretty awful. I wish I hadn't started my Thanksgiving day off with this experience. I got a confirmation message the day before my waitlisted class, leading me to believe I was booked for the following day's 10:45AM class (screenshot attached). I arrived at 10:41AM the day of my class, and when I checked in at the front desk, the receptionist was curt and told me she didn't see me on the list, no other explanation. Didn't even make eye contact with me as she said it. I patiently asked her whether she could double check because I'd gotten the text (which I showed her) -- she told me being "checked into a class" isn't the same as being able to attend a class? Not sure what that even means? Eventually she said she could "get me off the waitlist" and assigned me a bike. One of the assistants walked me into the class which had already started, and discovered all the bikes were taken because some people hadn't checked in and unofficially took bikes. Instead of escorting them out so that I could used my assigned bike, I was instead asked to wait for the next class (12PM), which I was patient and said ok to. I ended up waiting in the parking lot for 45 minutes. I got to the 12PM class at 11:45AM, and after checking in, one of the attendants simply walked me to my bike and left right after. I received zero instructions on how to adjust the bike -- which according to a yelp review I read is NOT the norm for someone's first time? I'd assume it's important to adjust a stationary bike to your appropriate height/stature so you at least don't injure yourself. Keep in mind that I had told the receptionist AND attendant that it was my first time at GritCycle. When the class ended, the attendant walked around and handed everyone a wet towel to wipe down, including the girls to the immediate left and right of me, but entirely skipped me. Specifically, she made eye contact with the girl to the left of me and the right of me, but overlooked me entirely. I don't know if this is because I'm new to the studio, I'm Asian, or anything else discriminatory, but that was a terrible first time and I would not recommend this studio.

I was never a fan of working out until I came to Grit Cycle. It's so much fun if you like black lights and house music. Great workout!!!

I love this studio. Its like party on a bike, but parking sucks. 4 stars because I've missed class a few times because I could not park.

Parking is kind of challenging because it's just a popular and busy plaza but not too bad. They provide you shoes if you don't have your own which I love! Other places charge you 3-5 bucks! On a side note... I recently went to hot Pilates and forgot my towel. I asked if I could borrow one but she wanted to charge me $13 bucks? I didn't want to spend that much on a towel when I have so many at home, so I proceeded to take the class and was sweating all over the mat... I know pretty disgusting. I guess I could've rented for $13, but I already said no, so I doubled down on it. They saw the situation and didn't offer it as a one time courtesy. Probably won't be back. Anywho, shout out to my girl Hanin who works the front desk here. She was sooo accommodating and helped me get in class even though I was waitlisted! So nice and kind, and offered me shoes while I waited just in case I couldn't get into class, but if there was a slot open, I would be ready... and there was! I had the best workout. XOXO

Every single instructor and the front desk staff are welcoming and friendly, but I absolutely love Brian's classes the most-- his classes are great for all levels, choreo is easy to follow, and his music makes you feel like you're at the club. Special shoutouts to Marissa, PK, Jennaca, Taylor, Shanell, Sam, and Holly for always bringing the best energy. Spin is my favorite cardio because it lets me just turn off my brain and forget about everything outside for 45 minutes--or 60 if you take Jennaca's Friday power hour. The vibe in the dark room with the bright lights, loud music, and heavy-duty fans is perfect (and honestly, I'm a massive fan of the fans). Plus, their filtered water machine is so cold and refreshing it's practically reason enough to come back on its own. If you start coming regularly, I highly recommend ordering a pair of TIEM spin shoes through the studio when they place orders every couple of months. They come right with the cleats included, and it makes a huge difference having your own pairs. The loaners aren't too bad though, and they're included in your class reservation!

Love the cycling here!…read more After my gym closed down in 2024, I was on the hunt for a new cycling studio. I tried pretty much every cycling option in the area via Class Pass, and M0XI3 proved to be superior in every way. Everyone I've encountered who works here has been professional, welcoming, and kind, which, surprisingly, wasn't always the case at some of their competitors. All cycling classes are not created equal. I've found that when instructors focus heavily on themed rides, sometimes the speed and intensity get lost, and the class ends up feeling like 45 minutes of a slow, heavy ride. I haven't experienced that here. I've frequented Justin and Mike's classes, and they are challenging in the best way. The music is always incredible, the energy is great, and they truly make instructing look so easy when we all know it's far from it. You know you have a great instructor when the choreography is clearly explained, the verbal cues are on point, and the entire room, from beginners to veterans, are completely synced up and moving together. Overall, I'm really impressed with the way they run their business and the talent they attract with their staff. It's clear there's a lot of thought and intention behind the experience they create, and it really shows.

Cam is so personable, approachable, and music is on point! But HOLY SMOKES Moxi3 just brought on SARA freakin' WEISMANN, this instructor is ELITE. Her instruction is unparalleled, mindset transformative, and so so fun! Great job Moxi3 for recognizing this type and talent and bringing her on. I was happy to extend my class package when I saw Sara here. Seriously, Moxi3 members are in for quite a treat. Put her in for cycling immediately, trust! Her energy is unmatched. Can't wait to see her more on the schedule!

Check-in at the front desk was quick and everyone was really pleasant. Since this was my first VersaClimber class, I was introduced to my instructor, who walked me through the machine and how class would go. That one-on-one intro made a big difference, she was patient, made me feel confident, and even gave me the option to wear shoes or socks (I went with socks). The class itself was intense but totally manageable. You can modify or take a break whenever you need to without feeling bad about it at all. 300 calories in 30 minutes, I can't complain! Everyone there, instructor and fellow clients alike, was warm and welcoming. I'll definitely be back, and I can't wait to try the reformer classes next!

To then have my appointment canceled because priority is given to your direct members is both misleading and unprofessional. If appointments made through ClassPass are subject to being displaced by members, that should be clearly disclosed before customers purchase credits and book appointments. Otherwise, customers reasonably rely on those confirmed reservations when planning their schedules. Unfortunately, this experience has caused unnecessary disruption to my day, and I won't be returning. I hope you'll reconsider this policy or, at a minimum, make it transparent to future customers. I'll be reaching out to ClassPass to share my experience and ask them to review whether this business's booking practices are consistent with their partner expectations. I hope they take appropriate action based on their policies.
