    Stuffed mushrooms
    Jeff W.

This was our first time eating at the grind. The restaurant has a very relaxed modern rustic atmosphere. We started out with the stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer. They were a little different than standard stuffed mushrooms. The mushrooms were in a marinara sauce with mozzarella cheese covering them. They tasted excellent lots of gooey cheese. For the main meal I had the chicken Caesar wrap with French fries. My wife had the Margherita fresco flat bread. Everything was excellent you can tell they use local fresh ingredients in their food. The French fries were exceptionally good probably the best fresh cut fries I ever had. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Our waitress did an excellent job checking in on us and keeping our drinks full. The grind also offers a bourbon tasting. We didn't try a flight of bourbon but maybe next time. I will definitely be stopping back in at the grind anytime I'm in the area. If you are ever in the area I would definitely give the grind a try you won't be disappointed!

We were going to go to a little place right across the street from the railroad . Someone in our party wanted breakfast. It's TOTALLY worth the few extra steps to The Grind. Nice menu selection. I got the California Chicken. My friend got the BLT. Other friend got strawberry toast and a side of applewood bacon. Choice of sourdough, brioche and wrap. We both got sourdough. Absolutely delicious. Sandwich was really fresh and hearty. The fries were fresh cut and crispy. Our server Vicky was very pleasant and helpful. Attentive and there was never a time when we had to ask for her to come over. The decor is so cute. A very modern rustic. The bathroom was definitely worth visiting. Places get another star just for clean and nice bathrooms. So The Grind gets 6 stars!

Husband got the meatballs but wasn't expecting a cream sauce- arabiata is what he ordered but he liked it fine.

1/11/25. We went here at our friends suggestion. The menu is very limited and I had a rough time trying to find something that appealed to me. I was torn between the Grind Burger, fried shrimp, and meatballs. The meatball customization options & sauces didn't appeal to me. I settled on the fried shrimp and they were delicious and crispy- very light tasty batter too. They were not greasy. The server told me that these are colossal shrimp and not frozen. She was 100% correct! I opted to switch out the fries for the Mac n cheese. Very delicious! No upcharge on that so I was happy. Our server was knowledgeable - but when she told us the specials- no prices were mentioned. She told us the specialty pasta - lobster ravioli- but again no prices. I thought that was odd. Our server was extremely knowledgeable on the food down to the ingredients and the cocktail menu. The desserts took longer than expected and our server acknowledged that. Something about a kitchen switch over- no biggie. Desserts were good- the chocolate mousse was phenomenal. The portion on the mousse was very generous. This was a true French dense chocolate mousse. I asked about it and the server knew how to answer my question. I've had very disappointing "chocolate mousse" in other restaurants that were a chocolate whipped cream. The Grind's chocolate mousse and my crème brûlée were top notch. I thought the carrot cake looked better than it tasted- the icing wasn't very sweet- I was glad I didn't choose that. Husband liked it though. I don't live in the area and this was only my second time here. Overall-I felt that the menu was expensive plus a lot of entrees seemed to be ala cart. Many items are not priced at all on the menu and have "market price"- I wouldn't bother to even ask. . . The quality of the food was excellent but overall I had a hard time trying to pick an appealing entree that was reasonable in price. The menu is very limited to me. I'm just not used to such fancified high end food. My shrimp was 19$ and I felt that was probably the best priced entree for what you got. I was not disappointed. The restaurant is bright, sleek and clean. I really liked seeing the lounge area. If you like drinks their cocktail list is extensive. Looks like they offer a nice variety of beers too if alcohol is your thing. One thing I thought was tacky was asking guests to tip the kitchen. This was found at the bottom of the menu. This tipping everyone is getting to be a little ridiculous in my opinion. If someone working in the kitchen wants to be tipped then be a server. Should we also tip the hostess who seats us, and the food runner? It honestly never ends.

I expected it to be bigger inside. It was a little aesthetically plain inside. The menu was very different. It's definitely for more the adventurous type with things like rabbit and custard as appetizers. I would've tried a main course, but however, my boyfriend is not adventurous so unfortunately, we looked at the menu but we didn't actually get to eat there so I can't tell you how the food is.

Food was cold by the time I got it. Didn't even offer water. Atmosphere was kind of grimly. Weird smells.

I just experienced Midtown for the first time this weekend and I was blown away! The ambiance was…read moreupscale chic and the food & drinks were superb...especially the espresso martini. To add to the experience, the owners were gracious and welcoming, while the staff were very friendly and skilled. I now understand why this is THE place to dine in Berks!

Ambiance is lovely--great decor, comfortable seating, a gorgeous bar, and live music. Fun cocktails and a solid wine list (though the "by the glass" options are a bit limited). Ultimately, though, I think the ambiance and service are doing the heaviest lifting here--it's a bit of a "vibe dining" spot. The food is definitely good, don't get me wrong...but it's not "wow," which was a little disappointing given that you're gonna be spending $$$$. (Most entrees are $30+ and they're pretty standard fare that's not especially inventive--steaks, a few pastas, obligatory short rib dish, elevated burgers, salmon.) We liked everything just fine but I didn't taste a dish that made me go "oh man, I gotta come back for that." Instead I'm thinking "maybe I should try something else next time I'm in." I do like that your entree comes with a salad. The physical menu itself could also use some work, as its quality doesn't match the care and luxury atmosphere of the place overall. Numerous misspellings and a lack of specificity on ingredients in several of the dishes that leave the diner unclear on what, exactly, they're getting. For example, there's an entree that's described simply as "grilled chicken breast served with rosemary potato wedges and grilled zucchini." Are there spices or sauces on that chicken? Are we talking just plain salt/pep? Herbs? What? Anyway, it's fine. It's a solid date night option. We'll be back.

I attended Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy Part II in DC, and overall it was a really enjoyable…read moreexperience--especially for fans of Poe--but with a few logistical quirks worth noting. First, "speakeasy" is definitely used loosely here. The event took place in a ballroom at the Kellogg Conference Hotel, with a stage set up at the front and several round 8-top tables arranged throughout the room. It felt more like a small theatrical performance with table seating than an intimate, hidden speakeasy-style venue. One thing to flag: the event FAQ mentioned that some venues may have a pre-show bar but no food. That wasn't the case here--the hotel actually had food available for purchase before the show. So if that matters to you, it's worth checking directly with the venue rather than relying solely on the event website. The performers truly carry the entire experience. They handle everything--checking tickets, seating guests, serving cocktails, and performing--which is impressive but also leads to some occasional disorganization. When we arrived, there wasn't great communication between the ticket checker and the usher, so some guests seated themselves and had to be moved later. It didn't ruin anything, but smoother coordination would make the start of the evening feel more polished. As for the cocktails: you get four, one paired with each story. Unfortunately, this was probably the most underwhelming part. The drinks weren't very strong--you could barely taste the alcohol--and despite the website showing nice glassware, they were actually served in plastic cups. It didn't quite live up to the "cocktail experience" expectation. That said, the performance itself was fantastic. The cast was engaging, energetic, and clearly passionate about Poe's work. They performed The Pit and the Pendulum, The Cask of Amontillado, Annabel Lee, and The Fall of the House of Usher, and each was brought to life in a compelling way. There were even a few ad-libbed moments that added humor and kept the show feeling fresh. The actors also did a great job interacting with the audience at each table while serving drinks, which added a personal touch. Overall, despite a few hiccups with logistics and the cocktails, the strength of the performances makes this a worthwhile experience--especially if you're a Poe fan.
