If you're doing a big project that requires a large amount of barkdust or topsoil, I highly recommend their added service of not only delivering, but using their giant blower and hoses to put it all right where you need it -- not a huge price hike, but saves so much time and effort, it's worth it. (Note to the newbies: if you're buying barkdust for the first time, be sure to get the Hemlock, as it doesn't give you or your pets those super annoying microscopic slivers. It is that time of year again when I need to get garden compost blown in and this year I won't be going with Grimm's. The last few years the crew has left substantial mess on the street with their truck and they were not attentive to cleaning up our walkways either. I spent hours cleaning up the mess. In addition, the quality of the compost has not been good either. Too much trash! The only saving grace is that there has been no bad smell. I have white lattice around my front stairs and also under my patio and usually it takes a hose to rinse clean. Not last year! I had to use a brush and a cleaner to get the residue off from having the garden mulch blown in. I was nearly in tears. I have never had this issue before and I am too old to be dealing with stuff like this with a service and product that is supposed to make life easier. read more

I've had solid results with these folks two years in a row: 1. Easy to contact, schedule and pay for (bulk mulch) delivery. 2. On-time arrival. 3. The drivers are always willing to work to put the load where we want it. 4. And, they're nice people. Mulch is mulch. We put it on the garden to help plants grow (And we're really having to work to rejuvenate some [heavy clay] garden areas). The mulch they deliver is affordable and it works. For me, Grimm's provides the right product at the right time in the right place. And that's really all I'm asking for. They've provided us with +4-star service. We ordered a cord of wood from Grimm's during the fall of 2012. The amount was spot-on - enough to fill two 8'x4'x2' stacks plus a 3'x2'x2' stack to make up for the volume in between logs for a true-cord. This was much better than haggling with providers on Craig's List not delivering a true-cord for their price. The wood was properly cured but slightly damp. But what tempered the whole experience was whatever soil or compost product was in the truck before our load. All the wood was dirty with some developing fungus/mushrooms by mid-winter. This fine, organic-rich dirt impacted every step of the handling process - from racking, to chopping kindling, to moving in to the house, to handling prior to placement in the stove. read more

My wife and I visited Grimm's a few weeks ago to schedule a drop-off of some mulch at our home. We had various questions regarding material types and amount needed. We were greeted by a very nice lady named Jessica. We liked her very much. She was polite, helpful and very patient with us. We scheduled a date for delivery and gave her our info and credit card. On the day of the delivery the weather turned bad (snow & ice) and there was more bad weather predicted. A gentleman from Grimm's (I didn't get his name) was nice enough to call me that morning and ask if I wanted to reschedule. I said yes and told him that I would call them to set a date after the weather cleared. About a week later, I called and Lizzie (or Lindsay) answered the phone. I said, "Hi. How are you today?", which I always do. I introduced myself, explained the situation and told her I was ready to reschedule. She asked me what I ordered and I told her. I then told her I should already be in their system. I was calm and polite. Her attitude was rude and her answers were quick. She told me my order was cancelled and my credit card info was destroyed. I told her I didn't cancel, I agreed to reschedule. She would reply with answers like, "I've already told you..." I asked her if she was in a bad mood. She said, "No. I just don't like your type of questions." I then said, "Well, I don't like your company, so I'm going elsewhere." Then I hung up. I called back soon after and asked for her manager. Continuing with her condescending tone, she said he (Jeff) was unavailable and she would have him call me. I said, "Do that." She laughed and hung up. I am polite until you are not. Of course, days later, no call back. I'm assuming it's a family business and my complaining would be pointless anyway. To be clear, I have no problem with the mistake they made with my order. My issue is with a front-facing employee being rude to customers and a company which takes no action and ignores this behavior. Perhaps Grimm's has grown too big to care about losing a customer here and there. I'm sure many of you have had pleasant experiences with Grimm's. If you must order from Grimm's, avoid Lizzie. As for us, we are now getting our mulch at Bark Blowers in Tigard. read more

Took a small pickup of yard debris to dump last Monday 06/12/17. Cost $12.00. I thought that was a reasonable price, so I returned this Monday with the same exact pickup filled the same amount with the same yard kind of yard debris. Different girl working. Cost $18.00. I showed her my receipt from the previous week. She didn't care. Won't be going back there, next week it may be $24.00 for the same size load. read more

I order something from Grimm's Fuel almost every year, usually barkdust. As always, the driver arrived as scheduled and was really good at dumping on the plastic where we wanted it. However, we got garden mulch this year and I was not happy with the quality. They lost a star because it was filled with cannon ball and larger sized lumps that are really hard to break up. Seemed like the whole load could have stood to go through a shredder again! We'll probably stick to barkdust in the future. read more

They were supposed to deliver mulch into my driveway, but dumped it halfway in the driveway and halfway in the street. They told me it was my fault for not being around to answer their phone call when the driver arrived there. So, I paid them to deliver a huge mess/headache. read more

We ordered 8 yards of blended soil from Grimm's Fuel and had serious problems with what should have been a very simple transaction. Foremost was their inability to accurately measure and deliver 8 yards of soil. We had the driver dump the load into 2 piles. Immediately, we were very concerned that the total amount delivered was no where near 8 yards. I used to own a landscape design company, so am familiar with landscape materials like this. The driver assured us that our total delivery was 8 yards and even pointed out which of the two piles was "larger". So, we called Grimm's and were told by their office personnel to text a picture of our piles, with a wheelbarrow next to it, to a cell phone number they gave us. OK, so we did - I put a standard-sized wheelbarrow next to the "larger" pile and texted it to the number and had the following text exchange: Me: "How many yards is this you just delivered?" Grimm's: "The driver said he split your load between 2 piles?" Me: "Yes. How many yards is this pile?" Grimm's: "Between 3-4. When we split loads it's not exactly even" Me: "That's not the issue... both piles are about the same size and can't possibly be a total of 8 yards." Me: "So are your yards not 3x3x3 feet? Grimm's: "That looks about right. If you want to give me the dimensions of your boxes I can make sure you ordered the right amount. Fill your boxes and let us know if your short" This went back and forth a bit more, but I was clear that my issue was that we ordered 8 yards and didn't get nearly that amount. Grimm's kept focusing on how much we needed for our raised bed boxes (and I had more uses for the soil than that), and NOT confirming that they delivered the correct amount of 8 yards. So, the next day, I CAREFULLY MEASURED the pile that I had sent in my text using a Medium Lowe's moving box (I put the box in my wheelbarrow and filled it level to the top of the box and then dumped it where I needed it). Remember Grimm's said this pile was "3-4 yards"? TURNS OUT IT WAS ONLY 1.44 YARDS. Here's my math: 1 Medium Lowe's Moving Box (dimensions are 18x18x16 inches) = 5,184 cubic inches 1 cubic yard (27 cubic feet and 1 cubic foot is 1,728 cubic inches) = 46,656 cubic inches I filled the Medium Lowe's Moving box just under 13 times, but rounding up to an even 13 = 67,392 cubic inches OR 1.44 cubic yards. Based upon this and then adding it to the other "smaller" pile, we likely were delivered UNDER 3 yards total when we ordered 8 yards! After more discussions with Grimm's they finally agreed to, and I quote, "give" us more. They delivered another pile 2 days later. While I didn't measure this second delivery, I think it was around 3 yards, so we STILL ended up paying for 8 yards and getting around 6. The reason I went through all of this is that we rely on and trust companies like Grimm's to accurately measure and deliver bulk materials such as top soil and bark mulch. Grimm's clearly failed to do that and then made it worse by continuing to mis-represent their measurements. In the end, we dealt with lots of aggravation, rude staff, clear mis-representation of standard bulk materials measurements... and we paid for 8 yards and still only got 6. Huge FAIL. Took a small trailer of yard waste to Grimms today and felt like I got gut punched with a $30 charge. I took a huge cargo trailer to the dump in Woodburn and only paid $25. I would give 1 star but the cashier girl was nice. I don't understand why they charge so much to drop off yard debris? We're paying them and providing raw materials that go into other products they sell. It would be like paying Goodwill for dropping off donations they resell. The whole thing just irritates me. Last week we got one fat cord of very dry wood, alder/cedar mix that was left over from last years already seasoned wood. We always get oak from them but this year they were out and I really wanted to stack the wood before the rain starts (unlike every other year that I stack in the cold wind and rain). Their wood is covered at the Tualatin yard so that part didn't matter. I set the drop date for a Saturday, asked for morning and they said it depends on the route that day. Got a call back later and they gave me a 1.5 hour window in the morning and they hit the mark at 1.5. Driver dropped it right where I had asked, was polite and did a good job, quick and in and out. I always take my yard debris down to Tualatin (in the early mornings), its around $10, plus or minus per truck load depending on if its overflowing over the bed or not. They are a little pricey on the fire wood so I took one star off. If I ever need bark dust I will check these guys out first. read more

For the second time I had Grimm's Fuel blow mulch into my flower beds and other areas. The truck/crew arrived on time and were finished in 30 minutes. After blowing in the mulch the crew cleaned up around the areas leaving my yard looking immaculate. Scheduling was a breeze - the young lady on the phone was friendly and efficient. I made the payment (a very fair price) over the phone after the crew left. The gentleman was very nice and thanked me for using Grimm's. I plan to hire them next year and thereafter. read more

Grimm's was recommended to me by a friend at Oregon Decorative. I was looking for a unit of bark dust and their prices were competitive - identical to Mt. Scott Fuel. I had called around prior to calling Grimm's and was impressed with how swift I was able to get the bark dust - next day - and on a Friday, too. The guy showed up in the morning and I was able to get the unit spread and off my lawn by the end of the day. My yard looks great now. Thanks for the help guys. read more

NOT ADA FRIENDLY AT ALL DISABLED BE AWARE . Terrible to the NTH degree company on all levels! No customer service, no problem solving abilities and terribly horrific UNKIND and unprofessional staff. To began I am a disabled in a wheelchair and I live alone new to PDX and none to come and stack wood and if I knew this was a requirement I would have moved on to probably a much more decent company. Worst customer service I have EVER experience including incorrect information that has cause issue right before a snow storm. I had 1.5 units of cedar chips blown into my backyard last week. This wasn't enough to finish the job so they returned with another half unit 2 days later. I got 2 quotes on the material and Grimm's was $100 per unit cheaper than their competitor and they are able to blow cedar chips. The company with the more expensive quotation had better reviews but they weren't willing to blow cedar chips. This is my first time putting bark dust on my yard and so far I am very happy with the results. The Grimm's team gave me a 2 hour window of when they expected to arrive and they were prompt. They did a nice job of distributing the chips and cleaning up excess debris afterwards. I chose cedar chips over hemlock or fir with hopes that maybe I will get an extra year out of them. September is a great time to get it delivered as their schedule is pretty open. My understanding is that the waiting list for the blowing service can be quite long in the summertime. read more
