Awful customer service. I called and spoke with Michelle to schedule to have bark chips blown in my back yard. I explained I was not familiar with the process and also mentioned I had 2 dogs. She quickly sold me what she described were quality bark chips. She never bothered to review the quality and size of various bark chip options. The workers came and blew low grade mulch in my back yard for $800. It was a complete waste of money. The whole purpose was for my dogs to be able to use the back yard without getting muddy and the workers told me I should have gotten cedar bark chips for that. I was told these were bark chips and that is what I expected, I never had any idea it would basically be mulch. Had Michelle bothered to review size & quality of the chips or asked me probing questions and educated me a bit on options, I would not have made this mistake. I later called in a professional manner to give the workers kudos for how nice and understanding they were and also express my disappointment in how poorly this was set up. Had Michelle asked the proper questions or bothered to share with me the quality or size of the bark, none of this would have happened. Instead of taking accountability or showing any empathy with the situation, she blamed it all on me, consistently spoke over me and was down right combative. I do not recommend anyone take their business here. read more

When you read all the reviews that reference poor/rude customer service, you think surely the company must have acted on that. They must have hired someone who was as bad, or most likely WORSE than the one other reviewers have spoken of. My experience went from frustrating to regretful with one phone interaction. 1) I gave the measurements of what we needed covered to a nice guy over the phone. He said it sounds like we need half a until and charged me mid-$500 range. Scheduled for the following week. 2) They arrived on the appointed day (Tuesday), started to blow the product and stopped in a matter of moments...it's too moist to blow this product. Need to reschedule. I called the office immediately and got a pleasant person who apologized for putting the product on the wrong truck for the job. Reschedule for Thursday. Disappointed as we took the dogs to daycare so they would be out of the house and now we have to work our schedules around them again in two days. 3) Thursday rolls around, I get a voicemail after the job that there was not enough product for the job as we had not ordered enough and the guys were 'nice enough' to blow more than what we paid for, but they would have had to have charged us for more, so they did not finish the job. 4) I call back and 'Jenny' starts of by telling me I did not order enough. Did we measure?? And she can drop off what we need but it will be a few days 'because it's our busy season'. I tried to explain that yes we measured and I gave the measurements to the guy I initially spoke with and he told me how much we needed. 'Well, he's only been here a week'. And that should effect me how??? She then asked how much I needed to finish the job. Well....I'm at work...don't know where they stopped....and I expect THE PROFESSIONALS to know how much I need. "Well, it's not our fault". Uhm......so....I give you measurements, you come out twice....don't finish the job and now you're jumping to "it's not our fault". Oh...she did offer to 'dump' the load on the driveway and not charge us the $69 delivery fee. Well...that's kind of you. "Let me check with the owner and see what I can do....I'll call you tomorrow" At this point, I don't even want them back at the house especially since they left the yard gate open. I will never understand why a business puts the worst people in 'customer service'. She could have been pleasant and understanding and we work it out and I recommend them all of my friends and neighbors. Instead, she is accusatory, demeaning and on the brink of confrontational. I had to call them back to see how we were going to get the issue resolved and I was informed they could come back and blow in the additional 'for a couple hundred dollars'. Just drop it on the driveway and let's be done. Moral of the story, go elsewhere If you want efficient or friendly service. read more

Decided to put in some raised garden beds for some summer fun and need loads of dirt. This place was pretty close to us so we drove up in our truck and ask for some dirt. The dirt/soil they offer is a mix of things - composted dark hemlock bark, manure, pumice, sand, and mushroom compost. Sounds good enough for a newbie gardener! They'll direct you to the soil pile and once you park your truck by it, they'll start dumping the stuff in. Pretty quick and easy, no hassling at all. read more

We ordered and had delivered a unit of Medium Fresh Hemlock bark dust in the early spring. The quality was really nice and the delivery was spot on. We were able to be home and give the driver the precise location where we wanted it to be dumped in our drive and he nailed it. They said we were a little out of their delivery range (North Portland), but they were able to accommodate us anyway. Friendly service. We're very slow at yard work... Maybe we'll have spread it all by the end of the summer (fingers crossed). What we have put down in our yard has been great at keeping the flowers moist and helping to prevent weeds from getting a stronghold. read more

They came to my house to blown in bark dust and made a mess. I was shocked when I back in town from a business trip and wish I had been on site. I called them to see if they could come back and clean up mess. They did come back to clean up it appeared, but did lame effort. I asked them to call me so I could meet them on my house which they never did. It required that I rent a pressure washer to clean up driveway and patios plus sides of house, fences and even under the eves. Never use these guys again. I paid top dollar for this job and got a very disappointing outcome. Still cleaning up. read more

Oh what a lousy experience. Let me count the ways: 1) we got no help in recommending an accurate amount of mulch needed. We live in the city, so it's safe to assume we don't need a lot. When we told them the square footage we needed to cover, they recommended "two units." How much is two units? Yeah, we didn't know either. But naively, we relied on them to be experts. 2) And guess what? It's too much. And not a little too much. We have the equivalent of two Honda Accords in front of our house. Which is about one and a half Honda Accords too much. So much for expertise. 3) When we called to voice our concern, we got Heather. Heather was incredibly rude, incredibly self-righteous and her only solution was to "spread it on thicker." Heather apparently would like us to add another mile or two of crust to the Earth's outer layer. But only in our yard of course. Bottom line: not only is this expensive but it's a big effing hassle to have a mountain of mulch in front of our house. No Craigslist "Free" ad is putting a dent in this stuff any time soon. Save your money. Go elsewhere. Or look on Craigslist. Chances are, our mulch is still listed! read more

They got here and told us that for what we wanted, it would be a lot cheaper to use something other than what we had ordered. We loved their suggestion so they went back and got the other stuff and brought it back to us. We used the dark hemlock. We appreciated their expert advice and honesty. This is my second purchase from Bark Blowers. I've been told I'm sometimes a slow learner. It must be true. The first time, I bought a large scoop of their garden mulch. That product might be OK for flower beds, but for overseeding a lawn.... huge mistake. Not only wood chunks but I think this product is derived from home compost pickups so I found chicken bones, plastic, and food scrap waste. AND it stinks. So when Bark Blowers sent me a $ 20 off a $ 100 purchase coupon, I thought I'd give them a try with a different product. So I explained to the courteous and hard working office worker, loader/unloader/cashier I needed a product for covering fresh lawn grass seed. And I'd like to buy three, $ 35 loads and use my $ 20 coupon. My RECENT $ 35 (1 yard) of "5 way Brahma SOIL" looked much better...dry. But it too had wood chunks 2/3 the size & shape of a pencil. Looks good until watered. Then the chunks appeared. Oh.... and the $ 20 coupon.... Like so many, another "gots ya, sucker". Have your lawyer take a good look at those coupons. So other than their only "soil" product isn't soil, and their coupon is worthless, they seemed real nice. Too bad, so sad. read more

Rude customer service! The woman on the phone, Samatha, was not helpful and quite rude. She needs a job where she doesn't talk to customers. I will not get anything more from this place because of her. My order was completely messed up and they wouldn't correct the mistake. I ordered 3 units of product but they only made my order for 2. The speed of service and their prices are good. I have gotten bark dust and Brahma garden soil from them. I for the most part hauled it myself. I like this soil because there is no yard debris in it. But it is so fresh that it is quite hot and when I use it in my raised beds, I only apply a few inches over the old soil. Also I think it lacks available nitrogen since most of the plants the first year when I put in all fresh soil didn't thrive until I added fertilizer. read more

Rude Customer Service from Samantha in billing and payment. This person called saying our payment was declined, when in fact it wasn't. We had to go as far as doing a 3 way call with the bank who verified our payment for bark was paid. She continued to demand we pay with another card or come in and pay in person. She was also rude to the bank person demanding the bank persons, ID, name, number etc. It was further explained that bark blowers payment system (Blue Star) was in error and not CITIbank. We expected patient and understanding behavior from bark blowers not accusatory, demanding and unfriendly. Ive bought product there for 10years and never seen this rash behavior from any one there. INCREDIBLE Customer Service at every contact! I called to check and see if there would be 1 1/2" rock for my project on 4th of July weekend. I was assured there would be plenty on Saturday, the day I had planned for my project. I was asked if I needed delivery or if I was going to pick it up. I explained I was planning to pick it up. I was asked about a vehicle I was intending to use. I explained what my plan was and what vehicle. I was reminded how much rock weighs and was cautioned I may need to make more than one trip.. I live less than a mile from the location. I asked about delivery and cost. I ordered, paid with my cc over the phone. I asked when it could be delivered. I was told "today" I was pleasantly surprised as I still had a rigid timeline to complete my project. I received a call mid afternoon from the delivery person confirming where I wanted the rock dumped.....WOW! After all the discussion, when I arrived at home I found 3 cubic yards of 1 1/2" drain rock perfectly nestled where I asked it to be dumped. I am impressed with the entire transaction. Don't use these guys! I ordered two yards of dirt with explicit instructions not to drop it in my driveway. My driveway is made of pavers and I didn't want their big fat truck pulling onto my pavers and I didn't want them blocking my garage door with the dirt. But when I arrived home I discovered that is exactly where they dumped it at the head of my paver driveway in front of my garage door. When I made the request, the girl who took my order assured me the driver had been driving for 20 years and was extremely competent. When I called to complain about this, the girl who took my order merely apologized and even suggested I could find chemicals at the local supermarket to clean the pavers! It wasn't until I told her that I wanted my delivery fee refunded that she even thought of that. There are other options nearby that are just as competitive and far more competent. read more
