I couldn't believe how good this place was. The place doesn't look as appealing inside or outside but the food is flawless. It has the classic vibe of a fast food burger spot. I really appreciated the staff and how friendly they were. They were so fast bringing out the order to you. The burger is delicous! It came with lettuce, tomato, and mustard, and had options for other ingredients. The double burger is my favorite. I would come back for these burgers again for sure! read more

First visit!! Cheeseburger was tasty with lots of mustard. Fries were thin and salted just right. Chicken sandwich was delicious but rather small. Far away but might return someday! read more

Such a classic southside staple, I cannot have enough of it, sadden it's taken me a while to get back to such iconic flavor! Service here is a bunch of young people who are super nice, they make it easy. The inside and outside of the place has been revamped which is nice, adds a modern touch to a classic establishment. read more

Ah maaaan... I totally didn't believe my brother when he told me that a childhood favorite burger joint was still thriving in San Antonio after all these years. He insisted that the burgers tasted exactly the same, and he was right. We both got the double giant cheeseburger with fries and a root beer. That meal took me back to times when our Dad brought us all here on Fridays for a cheap dinner. Freshly grilled burgers made to order and perfectly seasoned fries. I sure look forward to going home again, and Griff's will definitely be on the itinerary. read more

Nice greasy burger with soft bun. Fresh and tasty. I get my burger without mustard and onions add mayo and came out perfect! I got the onion rings which weren't overpowering. I also tried the munchers which weren't too flavorful, but chocolate shake was also a hit with the family. Nice clean and quick service. Restrooms were clean and all the kids working were quick and had excellent customer service. Definitely recommend. read more

Some friends invited me to an early lunch at Griff's. I was a bit skeptical given its location and appearance but was pleasantly surprised by the burger. Food: Good, old fashioned double cheeseburger. Flavor of the meat patties was above average and everything was fresh. Overall a good burger. Fries were extremely over salted. Ambiance: Old, rather rustic fast food ambiance Service: order at counter, pickup when ready, fairly prompt preparation of burgers Overall cleanliness: Below average. The floors were freshly mopped, but the mopping left a slippery residue everywhere. Ketchup stains were visible on the furniture and at least one column. Bathroom cleanliness: average Why 3 stars? A clean restaurant is a safe restaurant. If the visible portions of a restaurant are clearly dirty and not maintained, it's safe to assume the less visible areas including the kitchen are equally dirty or worse. read more

I watched a few youtube videos raving about this must try San Antonio south side staple, and was very curious to see why it had such great reviews. I checked it out for lunch, and immediately when you walk in you're welcome back into the 1960s, which is pretty cool. The list of prices were very reasonable too, $8.50 for a giant cheeseburger meal with fries and large soda! I tried the giant cheeseburger. Presentation wise I wasn't too impressed, my cheeseburger looked a bit smushed. But the real show stopper was the taste. I was surprised the burger patty had a crispy-ness to it and it was so delicious I inhaled my burger giant burger. The bun may have looked flat but it was so soft and delicious as well. It had all the classic toppings - american cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles. The staff were very friendly, the service was fast and they stopped by to make sure we were happy with our meal, which was a nice surprise at a fast food spot. Glad I got to experience the nostalgia this place brings to many, and can't wait to come back for this cheeseburger. Overall great value, fast service, and a delicious cheeseburger with a nostalgic feel. read more

I've driven by this place for years and just now stopped in. It's your typical mom and pop burger place. Small inside but clean and spacious. The burgers were delicious and so were the fries. They're always busy but will refill your drink asap. Definitely a good spot to get a home made type burger. read more

Order 2 burger and a fries to go, they called my number. Only one burger there, I go back to counter and watch them take apart other customer burger to correct my order. They still did not get it correct. Went back finally correct, by then the first burger was cold. Ask to speak to a manager and the saw person took the burger from another was walking up to the counter. I asked to speak to someone higher. A older woman came up to the counter, but did not really seem to really care. Said she was sorry about that with a smile that did not reach her eyes. First and last time I will be going. If you go, beware and check your order. read more

Let me tell you this place gives 90s vibes if I ever knew I lived in it great atmosphere it's even better outside just here in that southside traffic and that occasional loudspeakers lol!! burgers are made completely fresh and the food just taste. Absolutely delicious burgers are nice and juicy I really like how the buns are not soggy when they're served at some restaurants you'll get that but you get them nice and crispy and it's perfectly buttered now don't let me get you started with the bacon compliment, the burger so very well and it's always perfectly crispy. The prices are amazing and the service is 10 out of 10 feels like I'm ordering from family 9 out of 10 the only reason why I wish there was a bigger burger because it was so good. I had to get two!! will be back again thank you all!!! read more

Best burgers in town. Service is always fast and friendly. I wholeheartedly recommend Griff's Hamburgers.

Very fresh made to order old fashioned Cheeseburger and fries. And very fast service!

We were told that this was one of San Antonio's best old fashion burger joints. The local news channel NEWS4SA gave this place the " San Antonio Blue Plate for the "WEAK" award. I think they must have been seriously mistaking.... #news4sanantonio When we pulled into the parking lot the drive-thru was at least 20 cars deep. We opted to go inside for the Full Monty. Initial impressions walking it... definitely a community treasure but nothing fancy... fairly clean, it was a full house. Every table occupied with people eating. There was no line at the cashier but it looked like chaos behind the counter with sandwiches, and about 20 prefilled cups of sodas. We Ordered: Griff's Double Giant combo with Large Soda and Large fry. Cheese burger and side of onion rings Total price - $15.99 (very reasonable price) The Double Giant burger was decent, the meat reminded me of the pre made patties we use to eat as a kid... when there wasn't much money and moms wasn't concerned about the quality of the meat. Surprisingly my burger was very decent size, flavor, preparation and price. The bottom bread of the cheese burgers bun was so hard it COULD NOT be eaten...its was like a ROCK! (Im not exaggerating). It was so hard I could not break it with my two hands. Onion rings were extremely over cooked, burnt, oily! French fries were okay. Soda was flat as expected because as orders came in they prepared the drinks w/ ice and placed on the counter until the rest of the order was completed. I noticed that the warming lights and table in between the kitchen and the cashier was not working; so they placed the prepared burgers on top of it. The kitchen looked small and there was total chaos back there. I can not imagine what the Blue plate judges would have to say right now; obviously they visited this place when they were closed or had very little busy. Outside seating was dark, the lighting was very low and it did not feel safe to eat outside. This was not the worse restaurant that I have visited, but I see absolutely no purpose for me to ever return to this place again. If this is news4sanantonio.com standard for QUALITY, we will never follow another one of their recommendations for "Blue Plate Awards" #news4sanantonio "SAN ANTONIO - Its motto is quality food and speedy service, but now can add squeaky clean kitchen to that list. Griff's Hamburgers is the winner of this week's Blue-Plate Award." read more

This place nails the classic burger experience! Griff's double cheeseburger is a real standout -- juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. It's everything you want in a good old-fashioned burger, totally beating out the typical fast food spots by a mile. Can't go wrong with cheeseburgers from the southsideeeeeee. This place is a hidden gem. My brother used to work early in the late 80's early 90's and I come to pay tribute to him because he would always say they were good RIP. I make sure to also try the shakes because they are creamy, frothy and everything in between. Be sure to get the fries or onion rings as a side as they are both delicious! Take on the biggest hot dog they have their everything is magically good! I also enjoy that it's always packed which means the food is good. read more

I really wanted this place to be GREAT, but one big problem kept them from 5 stars. PROS: I loved the grilled buns, with super crispy edges. Most places do not get this right, and it really makes burgers shine. Also the produce was super fresh, crispy, and cold, which is exactly the way it should be. Finally, the staff was super efficient and friendly, and the order came out very fast overall. CON: The burger patty was rubbery and had an off taste I associate with low quality beef. This is a major misstep in my book for a burger joint. Overall, this place reminds me of Burger Boy. If you like those burgers, these are almost a clone. read more

Horrible service!! Been waiting in drive thru for over 20 min for 2 burgers ‍ I asked for sweet tea and they gave me unsweet and when I told them I wanted sweet the said they didn't have any, so instead of asking me if I would like a different drink they really tried to give me unsweet tea, who the hell wants to drink unsweet tea!! Horrible horrible and all they did was have conversations that didn't pertain to service, and their attitude sucks balls.. read more

Griff's Hamburgers - #1 combo Double Giant with cheese and mushroom add on. I love this place oldie but goodie - Burgers Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

Let's start by saying I was raised in the Midwest, where diners and shack burgers were everywhere. I stumbled upon this place while just driving down a street i had never been on looking for someplace where I had never dined. The sign caught my eye as a classic style Americana themed signed and the building looked like an old walk up shake stand, just a little bigger. I then noticed the line around the building for the drive thru. I saw that and thought it must be good but I don't want to wait. I continued on and stopped at a bbq restaurant, parked, but then thought, I really want to try that double cheeseburger the marquee mentioned. So I went back and parked and went in. Place was no where near the cleanest place I had been, but it let me know they pay more attention to the food then the looks. I proceeded to order the double giant cheeseburger combo. The burger wasn't anything special to look at, and even looked over cooked. First bite, the bun was nice and the burger was juicy. Reminded me of the old ways they would do burgers, right bun, right meat and right cheese. Patties were seasoned right and just did it all good. The fries could've been crispier, but were good and salty, but not too salty. If you want a burger like you had growing up, go to griffs. Inexpensive and good! read more
