Some friends invited me to an early lunch at Griff's. I was a bit skeptical given its location and appearance but was pleasantly surprised by the burger. Food: Good, old fashioned double cheeseburger. Flavor of the meat patties was above average and everything was fresh. Overall a good burger. Fries were extremely over salted. Ambiance: Old, rather rustic fast food ambiance Service: order at counter, pickup when ready, fairly prompt preparation of burgers Overall cleanliness: Below average. The floors were freshly mopped, but the mopping left a slippery residue everywhere. Ketchup stains were visible on the furniture and at least one column. Bathroom cleanliness: average Why 3 stars? A clean restaurant is a safe restaurant. If the visible portions of a restaurant are clearly dirty and not maintained, it's safe to assume the less visible areas including the kitchen are equally dirty or worse.

I've driven by this place for years and just now stopped in. It's your typical mom and pop burger place. Small inside but clean and spacious. The burgers were delicious and so were the fries. They're always busy but will refill your drink asap. Definitely a good spot to get a home made type burger.

Fast service great burgers! Atmosphere was very laid back and perfect for a quick burger! Absolutely coming back again! Triple giant cheeseburger wasn't too big 4.5 out of 5! Fries are small side (McDonald's size compare) 3.8 out of 5 onion rings were okay nothing great 3 out of 5.

Triple me triple cheese with chili and bacon buns toasted both sides.

I walk in and I'm not greeted I go up to the counter to order and the girl tells me what do you want and I told her I want to order a triple meat triple cheese with bacon and chili and an extra french fry and my buns toasted both sides. She puts my order in and I weighed about 10 minutes for my order to come out. I get my burger and french fries and it's delicious best burger I've had in San Antonio french fries were awesome everything was nice and fresh. If you don't mind attitude from the workers that take your order in the front and a couple of hickeys on their neck lol. This place is for you very good food and burgers.

Great service great food and not a bad ambience. The place seems like a hole in the type of place usually places like this have great food and let me tell you this place didn't disappoint, saw a long line in drive thru and constant people going in had to stop and try . Burgers taste great fries great and is like a traditional homemade burger a very well made one I'd recommend try it out if you like home style burgers. Definitely will go back.

This place nails the classic burger experience! Griff's double cheeseburger is a real standout -- juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. It's everything you want in a good old-fashioned burger, totally beating out the typical fast food spots by a mile. The quality is waaay above McDonald's or a lot of other fast food chain you can think of. If you're craving something classic and satisfying, Griff's has got you covered.

Excited to see what all the rumble is about.

We were told that this was one of San Antonio's best old fashion burger joints. The local news channel NEWS4SA gave this place the " San Antonio Blue Plate for the "WEAK" award. I think they must have been seriously mistaking.... #news4sanantonio When we pulled into the parking lot the drive-thru was at least 20 cars deep. We opted to go inside for the Full Monty. Initial impressions walking it... definitely a community treasure but nothing fancy... fairly clean, it was a full house. Every table occupied with people eating. There was no line at the cashier but it looked like chaos behind the counter with sandwiches, and about 20 prefilled cups of sodas. We Ordered: Griff's Double Giant combo with Large Soda and Large fry. Cheese burger and side of onion rings Total price - $15.99 (very reasonable price) The Double Giant burger was decent, the meat reminded me of the pre made patties we use to eat as a kid... when there wasn't much money and moms wasn't concerned about the quality of the meat. Surprisingly my burger was very decent size, flavor, preparation and price. The bottom bread of the cheese burgers bun was so hard it COULD NOT be eaten...its was like a ROCK! (Im not exaggerating). It was so hard I could not break it with my two hands. Onion rings were extremely over cooked, burnt, oily! French fries were okay. Soda was flat as expected because as orders came in they prepared the drinks w/ ice and placed on the counter until the rest of the order was completed. I noticed that the warming lights and table in between the kitchen and the cashier was not working; so they placed the prepared burgers on top of it. The kitchen looked small and there was total chaos back there. I can not imagine what the Blue plate judges would have to say right now; obviously they visited this place when they were closed or had very little busy. Outside seating was dark, the lighting was very low and it did not feel safe to eat outside. This was not the worse restaurant that I have visited, but I see absolutely no purpose for me to ever return to this place again. If this is news4sanantonio.com standard for QUALITY, we will never follow another one of their recommendations for "Blue Plate Awards" #news4sanantonio "SAN ANTONIO - Its motto is quality food and speedy service, but now can add squeaky clean kitchen to that list. Griff's Hamburgers is the winner of this week's Blue-Plate Award."

This trip since we craved for burgers, ordered: Bistro burger- wonderfully seasoned and cooked, served on sourdough, with avocado, grilled onions and mushrooms, mayo. One thing that should be added, the works, I felt it would be even better with the addition of lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes. I ordered the cucumbers sans chamoy and lucas. I appreciate simple veggies. Mexican burger- excellent! Juicy burger with cheese, jalapenos, pico de gallo, bacon and the works. The tater tots had a nice and crispy outer texture as it should. Overall- very good. Tasty, reasonable, clean, and great service. We'll have to make sure to come back sooner!

The food was not the best especially for the price. The drinks on other hand were amazing. My server Marah toke great care of me. Attentive, funny, and well knowledgeable. Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)

It's been a few years since I've been by; so, I was truly looking forward to getting something. I chose The Brat & tots (plain). I was very happy with my choice. The gentleman greeted me immediately. I thought it would take me a minute, but, as I stated, I chose The Brat immediately. I'm a little high strung from my age, so people kinda chuckle. It's cute. I make me smile. They put the perfect amount of mustard on it too! See the photos, but it comes covered with cabbage & crispy fried onions. It is amazing. I was able to get a whole 1/3 of it eaten before my body shut down. Tot wise, they were hot & perfectly fried! I like to dip mine in ketchup, but they offer you various other dips as well. So, I got ranch cuz, um, of course. Also, I really like their soda brand. I can't remember it, but it's a dia de los muertos skull for the logo, but I love their roots beer, which was my beverage of choice today. It's really a nice little place to just come in & sit & enjoy a yummy hotdog alone, or with family/friends.

My partner and I went on a Sunday morning just after 11am and there were already people coming in to eat. It's popular for a reason! I've eaten here a few times and had a very consistently good time, but this review will be about my most recent visit. We visited on a rainy day, but luckily we were able to snag one of the inside tables, we ordered at the counter and our orders arrived very quickly. I got the Ratchet dog which is a beef dog with queso, hot Cheetos and fried jalapeños. Dogfather uses quality dogs and buns for all of their gourmet dogs. I found the Ratchet to be meaty, salty with just right amount of spice from the jalapeños. My partner got the Pop it like it's hot, but removed the jalapeños. This was good but lacking a bit of flavor, however she and I both agreed that was on her for taking the jalapeños off the dog. Both dogs were extremely tasty, and we devoured both. I also got an order of curly fries loaded with their chili and cheese. For me, these did not have to go as HARD as they did. The chili they are using at Dogfather is seriously good, with a slight tang and a good amount of spice. It thrills but does not take away from your meal with too much heat. Very tasty. My only feedback is that Dogfather needs a larger space! There's a good size outside seating area, but for times like today when it's raining people need some coverage. They're doing it right and the crowds want to come! As I have stated this is a local favorite. If you live nearby, make it a regular spot. If you live in San Antonio, do yourself a favor and make a trip over at least sometimes. If you like hot dogs you won't go wrong.
