I'm grateful that my best friend has kids in the theater. I love that I get invited to come see these shows. What a production ! I don't even remember them having theater before. Desde el principio sentí que Codella no era el lugar adecuado para mi hijo, pero quise darle una oportunidad. Intenté ver lo bueno en las personas. Pero esa confianza llevó a mi hijo a un ambiente que le causó trauma emocional y afectó gravemente su autoestima y su confianza. Mi hijo empezó a asistir a esta escuela a los tres años. Estaba desarrollándose bien, enfrentando retos normales para su edad--pero con progreso y alegría. Todo cambió después de que hice una solicitud muy simple y razonable: que me notificaran si mi hijo se lastimaba durante el día. A partir de ese momento, el trato hacia él cambió por completo. Comenzó a decirme cosas que me rompieron el corazón: "Ella grita tan fuerte que me duelen los oídos." "Ella me agarra el brazo tan fuerte que me duele." "Ella me dijo que me alejara de los niños y que me alejara de ella." Y lo peor de todo: "Ella me pegó muy fuerte en el hombro." Esa no es la manera de hablar de un niño que se siente seguro o visto. Esa es la voz de un niño que está siendo maltratado. La misma "maestra" que fue responsable de esto también era quien constantemente mandaba reportes exagerados, absurdos y dañinos, describiendo comportamientos completamente normales para un niño de cuatro años como si fueran maliciosos o peligrosos. En una ocasión incluso me dijo que cuando mi hijo no estaba, los demás niños "no corrían". ¿Qué niño de cuatro años no corre? Sus comentarios eran mezquinos y mostraban una falta total de entendimiento del desarrollo infantil. Y ni siquiera me siento cómoda llamándolas "maestras", porque no lo son. No son educadoras, no tienen preparación ni empatía, y si tienen alguna credencial en desarrollo infantil, es evidente que nunca se han actualizado ni capacitado más allá de lo mínimo requerido. En varias ocasiones, cuando quise tener una conversación respetuosa para entender lo que estaba pasando, me decían cosas como: "Si quiere hablar conmigo, hágalo rápido porque estoy ocupada." Esa no es la forma de tratar a una madre preocupada, ni mucho menos a un niño. Una de las interacciones más absurdas fue con la directora. Me llamó para decirme que mi hijo estaba corriendo en el salón. Le pregunté qué quería que hiciera con esa información. Me respondió, sin ningún contexto, que se agachó para hablar con él a su nivel, y que "se lastimó la espalda" y no pudo volver a levantarse. Incluso dijo que tuvo que llamar a su supervisora para reportarlo. Le pregunté si mi hijo la había lastimado, y me dijo que no... pero aun así lo hizo ver como si él fuera el culpable. Su justificación fue: "Es que es muy fuerte." ¿Una adulta culpando a un niño de cuatro años por sus propias limitaciones físicas? Es ridículo, mezquino y francamente inaceptable. Estas personas no deberían estar a cargo de ningún niño. No tienen la preparación para evaluar el comportamiento infantil, no son profesionales de salud ni desarrollo, y sin embargo sacan información de sitios como el CDC para emitir opiniones como si fueran diagnósticos. Es una práctica peligrosa y desinformada. Después de presentar una queja formal ante el organismo estatal que otorga licencias, sentí algo de alivio. Hablé también con la directora del programa (quien rara vez está en la oficina) y le conté toda la situación. Ella fue muy amable, se disculpó sinceramente, y reconoció que lo que sucedió no era aceptable. Me dijo que hablaría con el personal. Agradecí sus palabras, pero eso no borra el daño que mi hijo vivió. Voy a decir esto con fuerza: el personal de Codella debería sentir vergüenza por cómo trata a los niños. Deben hacerlo mejor. Por cada niño que está en ese salón hoy, y por todos los que puedan venir. Como madre, me duele profundamente saber que la primera experiencia escolar de mi hijo--una que debería haber estado llena de juegos, afecto y crecimiento--estuvo en cambio llena de miedo, vergüenza y maltrato. A mis casi 40 años, yo aún recuerdo con cariño a mi maestra de preescolar. Esa primera impresión del mundo escolar importa. Y ahora, estoy haciendo todo lo posible para ayudar a mi hijo a sanar y borrar esta experiencia de su corazón. Él merece un lugar donde se sienta seguro, querido y valorado. Me duele por los demás niños en ese salón. Me duele por los padres que no pueden hablar por miedo o por no tener otra opción. Pero yo sí tengo una voz, y siempre la usaré por mi hijo. Hoy, él está en una nueva escuela. Donde lo aman, lo cuidan, lo valoran. Está progresando más que nunca. Porque el problema nunca fue él--el problema era Codella. Padres, confíen en su instinto. No ignoren las señales. Esta escuela no es un lugar seguro para sus hijos. No es un lugar donde se les respete ni se les valore. Sus hijos merecen algo mejor. No cometan el mismo error que yo

I'm a parent of 5 and it's not easy but I do my best everyday to follow through what with whatever kids need for school. I expect the same from you guys from the little things to the bigger things.
