I graduated back in 2022 but every-time I recall my last half of my high school experience that was with Huntington Park high I have nothing but good memories. The teachers care, the staff, the nurses, the principal. All my teachers were great they loved what they did and taught, because of them I achieved only good grades. Not to mention the campus was beautiful they had a lot of original old architecture it looks like a park with all the grass and blossom trees, the walk to any of my classes were peaceful especially in the mornings. Please read!…read more When I went there, all I saw was a perfect example of a money-hungry school that seemed to prioritize its 50+ student jv team and varsity football program over its students in other different programs. It felt like the people who received the most benefits and special treatment were those related to teachers, counselors, or other staff members. Go Bulldogs, I guess. The school seemed more concerned with its public image than with the well-being of its own students. I've seen former students from other graduating classes make similar comments, so my experience doesn't appear to be unique. Maybe life isn't fair, and maybe I was just unlucky enough to attend during the same years as several counselors' and teachers' children. One student even had both of his parents as teachers at different points during his time there. There were multiple students with parents and staff,even one counselor and teacher both had two children attending the school. Looking back, it felt like there was one set of rules and opportunities for students connected to staff and another for everyone else.

I think this is my second review. My kids were sophomores this year. The school is about a 25-30…read moremin drive for us. All side streets so traffic can get backed up easily. The school has made several physical improvements. Baseball has put in some lighting, fixed their snack bar etc. The athletic room with weights is brand new and looks great! The overall school looks improved too. Regarding teaching and staff- The front desk Elva is the most welcoming abc kindest of people. The faculty cares and I gave my kids the opportunity to transfer back to a local school but they said teachers really care and they teach you. Sounds weird right? You think all teachers at school teaches but that's not the case. Some teachers at some schools are biding their time. My kids opted to stay at CSHM because of the teachers. FYI because of one of our sons playing baseball we have to drive back and forth 3 x a day. That's almost 3 hours. We do it because our sons are excelling here. They take honors, ap and dual college enrollment classes. One of my sons ranked 8th in his class the other 13th. The school recognizes and encourages better academics through recognition. Besides all the typical every school does them recognition they do the following: Special recognition during school where students are recognized in front of their peers. There are different levels like magma cum laude, signs cum laude etc. The kids who rank top 10 in their class get a special free dinner at a restaurant where they are recognized again and families can pay to enjoy a meal too. Lastly for seniors there is a senior spotlight dinner at the end of year. They are selected based on a lot of criteria. Grades, service to community, overall good kid, etc. It's a beautiful dinner in which alumni, admin, spotlighted seniors and their families get to be recognized for the wonderful kids they are. This is a special night. We heart this school. Is it the fanciest of schools? No. They truly believe a good education can be achieved without taking out a second loan on your home. Dr Eric Crespo has made so many great changes to this school. He should be proud! Keep going Dr Crespo I can't wait to see what then next few years bring.

I was chosen with several other students to be on T.V. for a educational show. Ms. Adam was my teacher for this event. I remember the day JFK was killed by his limo driver was pretty surreal. Teachers were crying and we went home early. I also remember the smog was so horrific during the warmer time of year that we'd also be sent home early. The air smelled like rotten eggs, and you couldn't see more than a half mile. I'm grateful that I was able to attend school back when education was the emphasis, and not the way it is today.

And then later during the conference with the principle, she tried to defend for herself . She claimed that she is not a RN and therefore, she cannot perform any assessment on student . So irresponsible! I wonder how she made her judgement to send my kid back to classroom if she cannot do any basic focus assessment ?! It is definitely lack of communication with parents. It must be the parents to make a decision whether or not to pick up their kids when incident occurs; because clearly the health assistance staff cannot assess !!!
