The gal wasn't appearing very sympathetic about it and suggested calling the pediatric clinic in Lufkin. I signed up for the waitlist with Dr. Criss and got a text for a first come first serve cancellation 2 weeks earlier than scheduled. Yes!! This place only takes ERS dental coverage (ie state/college employees) and Medicaid, so if you don't have those it's out of pocket. The wait room is colorful and festive. There are iPads for the kids to play on as well. Check in process was quick. The actual dental staff was SO friendly and knew just how to work with my son (who's had some bad dental experiences). He is very hard to get to sit still and keep his hands to himself. (He'll push away the staff if he feels what they're doing hurts). The dental hygienist (by a miracle) got my son to keep his hands on his belly the entire time for her cleaning and exam. She even went out of her way to check our insurance to make sure he was due for a cleaning and it would be covered. (Confusion with my son having two dental plans previously). The hygienist patiently waited while my son picked out the perfect toothbrush for his cleaning bag. She chatted with him in language he understood about better brushing (which isn't easy with a newly turned 5 year old). I also watched the staff have incredible patience with a special needs client in the office that day. The child clearly had an aversion to being touched and compliant, but the staff rocked it with distractions. Dr. Criss was fabulous as well!! She listened to the problems, asked my son in his own words what was wrong and even helped us with other behavior issues (ie - finger sucking). Dr. Criss gave us tools and gadgets at no cost to take home and try. A plus was Dr. Cross grew up with our prior dentist (who's 5 hours away)! The world is a small place and we were blessed to find Dr. Criss here in Nacogdoches. I don't want anyone else to touch my son's teeth. I feel like she's set a new bar for my son to enjoy going to the dentist now.

Signed my name on the check-in form then I was in after my insurance was verified. The dentist came and did an initial evaluation then the same girl from the front came in to give me all my options and how much would be covered by my insurance. At no point was I pressured to get something done that I didn't need. I knew I needed to have what they recommended done. Once the work was approved I was moved to another room and the work was done after some waiting. The work was done well and I'm overall satisfied with Apex. Would recommend!

I've maintained contact with the front staff via email and unfortunately nothing has changed. Although I was told that some other charges were paid from my refund (which I didn't authorize) nor I was never sent a invoice for the difference. Unfortunately I am going to have to bring this matter up my financial institution and to the TSBDE. I feel for certain employees who actually care about you at this facility.
