This is the worst place I have ever been for an eye appointment. c They have cancelled my appointment three times. I went back today and sat in the lobby for 32 minutes before they called me back. There was only one other person in the lobby. I went to the pre exam room and the nurse spent 40 minutes reviewing what I had heard the last time I was there. Then I was sent back to the waiting room to wait on the doctor. I sat there 38 more minutes and they never called me back to see the doctor. I would not recommend this office. i waited a month after my cataract surgery to post my review to see if Dr. Griffin delivered what we discussed and he did. The surgery was a complete success and exactly what the doctor promised, but that's not the whole story. Being the retirement age I've visited a lot of medical facilities and by far Griffin Eye Center is the best I've ever used. From my first contact with them I started to develop confidence in Griffin. Their coordinator was knowledgeable, thoroughly explained my options and without any pressure. This carried through with during my first visit as the two technicians who examined me, they were top notch. Next was Dr. Griffin who first asked me what my expectations were then explained my options and then the procedure I felt would suit me.. After our conversation my confidence in his practice increased more. His surgery team continued to meet those high standards, they were caring, efficient and very professional. My rapidly failing eyesight led me to be referred by my Optometrist to Dr. Griffin for cataract surgery. The staff is comprised of many professionals that do all this daily, and make a scary experience as easy as it can be. My vision at the beginning was 20/75, not even legal to drive. After having both eyes done, it is now 20/15, even better that 20/20, I have never had vision this good! They will tell you that every eye is different, and they can't guarantee specific results, but you absolutely can't get the results I did without a very skilled and experienced surgeon to make the precise measurements needed and do the correct calculations to achieve the best possible outcome. Dr. Griffin is that excellent surgeon! The entire experience has been a delight, and I could not be happier with the life-changing and awesome results. The surgery is nothing to be concerned about. It only takes 6 minutes, is painless, and over before you know it. Dr. Griffin and his staff is as good as it gets! read more

My experience at Griffin Eye Center was wonderful! From the minute I entered the door I was greeted by professional staff there to help. I might add that they are all gifted with the right amount of "friendly" to put you at ease. My appointment moved along and each person I met introduced themselves and explained what they were there to do. Everyone took the time to ask if I had any questions or concerns. Initially I was nervous but after my appointment I felt certain I was in good hands. My surgeries and follow up visits were equally comfortable. I am very happy with my improved vision. Be very careful with this group. Their website shows they "partner" with Aetna however Aetna Medicare Advantage shows Drs. Griffin and Tipton out of network and does not even show McCann who is their optometrist. Their scheduler works from home and is very difficult to reach, I called several times to ask a question and she never answered her phone. I was referred to their practice by my optometrist who sent my records to their office but they performed the same exact eye exam my own optometrist performed 4 days earlier. What a total scam and waste of money. read more

I was recently diagnosed with cataracts, and I knew two things for sure based on my 20+ year career in Ophthalmology, along with being privy to hundreds of positive patient and family reviews. I was going to get a "PanOptix lens and Dr. Griffin was going to be my cataract surgeon. Sounded simple... Well, it was! Dr. Griffin's reputation precedes him in both states I have worked (NC and SC.) I felt excited and honored to have such a skilled surgeon performing my cataract surgery and his knowledge, confidence and skill level did NOT disappoint! The transition from Griffin Eye Center to Grand Dunes Surgery center has been seamless.  Together they make a great team making you feel secure throughout each step. I have heard hundreds of patient testimonials in my career along with my own family members regarding Dr. Griffin and Griffin Eye Center. Now, I can proudly say; "My vision is AMAZING! I can read my phone, menus, and a book without glasses. I can see my computer at work, labels, and tags at the store without glasses. To find the Murrells Inlet office, use WAZE. Google maps takes you to a neighborhood of house but not the Eye Care Center! Dr. Griffin and has staff were vey helpful, explaining everything they did. I highly recommend them. read more

I had double cataract surgery done by Dr Griffin 2 years ago after being referred to him by the Optometrist. Surgery went well with near perfect vision in both eyes. Now I have a serious vision issue with one of the lenses he put in so I called to get an appointment. When I talked to the scheduler she said Dr Griffin only does surgery now and I would have to go to the Optometrist and have him check me then refer me back to Dr Griffin if he thinks further surgery might be needed. What a pathetic medical procedure in my opinion! read more

I was referred to Griffin for a "corneal evaluation" by Coastal Eye Group. When arrived I was told there was a $300 "fee" for certain testing etc. that is not covered by Medicare of my BC/BS supplement. Hmm, why not? When "all" the tests were complete, I was hustled into an exam room and really not told the results of the test but was told about cataract surgery and my "optional lens", and Medicare would only pay the 'basic cataract surgery' and the optional toric lens was $2500 "extra" per eye!! What?? I did research and Medicare does pay for the basic cataract surgery, but does not pay for the toric lens, which can be as low as $900 up to $1500. When I questioned it they told me I was mistaken yet CMS and a bulletin they sent me said otherwise. On top of everything else they tried to sell me their cataract surgery when my Ophthalmologist offers the same services AND they didn't even perform the process requested in the referral, Corneal evaluation!! This is not my idea of proper medical care and patient handling. All they wanted to do was sell me the "options". Don't go there. Provider Action Needed STOP - Impact to You In a recent ruling, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) clarified payment rules that enable Medicare beneficiaries to have the choice of receiving presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses (IOLs). A beneficiary may request insertion of a presbyopia-correcting IOL in place of a conventional IOL following cataract surgery. I have LASIK surgery done on the 12th and Dr. Griffin and his staff were amazing. From the first point of contact I had everything was great. Abbie called and got all the information she needed from me to get me on the schedule and she was super polite and informative, Elsianna was wonderful she did all of my preop testing by the time I left on the 11th I felt like she was my best friend. Dr. McCann was really nice and took her time to answer any questions that I had. On the day of the procedure everything moved so fast that I don't remember everyone's names but every one was super nice and helpful. I got the hiccups just as I was going back for my procedure and the young lady that was with me talked me through them with some breathing exercises. If all Dr. offices could have a staff as friendly and caring as Dr. Griffins the world would be a better place. read more

Had excellent experiences with Dr. Griffin and his staff while having cataracts removed on both eyes. I was a bit apprehensive before the first surgery but, when it was over, I had no concerns regarding the second. Dr. Griffin treated me with kindness and respect and made me feel very comfortable before, during and after surgery. His staff was apparently hand picked by him as they all have the same concern for the patient. I doubt that there's a better facility in this area and beyond. By the way, I would urge anyone who has cataracts to go to Dr. G and get the surgery. I haven't seen this well since I was a child. Colors are more vibrant, I am no longer squinting to see and, lo and behold, no trees and curbs jump out in front of my car!! Thanks Dr. Griffin and staff. Best gift I have ever received. Just finished a MOST satisfying experience with Dr. Griffin .Staff was courteous, competent and efficient. The procedure was done in an actual hospital, as Dr. Griffin's offices are a part of the First Health complex. My procedure took less than two hours, start to finish, including check in and recovery. I've been a patient of Dr. Griffin since he was in Southern Pines. I have found him to be very thorough, has my interest at heart, highly specialized and very up-to-date in ophthalmic problems and solutions. I was delighted to find out he had moved to Myrtle Beach since I now live in North Myrtle Beach. I've referred several patients to him that have been just as pleased as I have. My daughter and son-in-law have also been to him and like him just as well as we do. You will not go wrong in seeing this doctor however, it's only by referral from another physician. Their office communication is not user friendly. You can't even talk to someone in the office about scheduling an appointment because of their voicemail set up. You must wait 24 hours or more for them to call you back--and that's during business hours--just to schedule an appointment. Do they not want business? Prescription refills, you might get a call back a week later. At one point, I received paperwork in the mail of another patient--HIPPA violation. They need to hire office help or go to a website based messaging system. I would not recommend this office, unless you have a lot of patience. read more

I had to find an ophthalmologist last minute for a full exam and some additional tests before I went to see my endocrinologist for an issue I've been dealing with. After listening to the situation, the office staff were able to squeeze me in for an appointment the next day. The wait was about what I would expect for a dr's office. Most of it was spent doing paperwork, so really not that bad. The office staff were extremely friendly and fun! Everyone was awesome about walking me through just about every step of each procedure they did, and were really thorough with everything. Dr. Tipton was great! He listened to the situation, and seemed really knowledgeable on my other issues and what he needed to look for. He talked me through all of the results and made sure I had copies of everything to take to my endocrinologist. I've been to a ton of doctors and eye exam locations in my life, and by far these guys are one of the best I've been to in a while! Everyone was very easy to talk to, they listened, they seemed legitimately concerned with my situation, and I trusted them completely. I will definitely be going back! read more
