I brought my dog here for a routine neuter, and it turned into a life-threatening emergency. After the procedure, my dog developed internal bleeding and had to be rushed to DoveLewis for overnight emergency care. He nearly died. Unfrotunatley there are tons of stories like this from companion pet clinic. This was not a minor complication, it was a catastrophic outcome from what should have been a standard procedure. What made it worse was the lack of professionalism and urgency. The front desk staff at the time were dismissive and unhelpful during an extremely serious situation. On Nov. 8, 2019, a Washington County grand jury indicted Dr. Daniel God Koller on two counts of first-degree aggravated animal abuse and two counts of first-degree animal abuse in Beaverton. There are also publicly documented federal regulatory actions involving the veterinarian associated with this clinic. A proceeding by the Drug Enforcement Administration raised serious concerns about handling of controlled substances and compliance with federal law, and an application for registration was denied based on public interest findings. He was foudn using vetrinaran pet drugs, and also he was Do your own research and read the official records. Based on my experience, I would never trust this clinic with my pet again.

We were very pleased when we first visited the new office. The office was updated and the vet ( Dr Roth) had an engaging personality. We gave her our trust. .Our next experience at the time of surgery was drastically different. Our initial visit with her was for a routine exam. The dogs were acting well. She noted that they needed dental care and quoted $500 per dog for cleaning and polishing under anesthesia. We understood that she might need to perform extractions if closer exam warranted. We were shocked to get a call while they were under anesthesia with her telling us that the situation was terrible and quoted $1700 to remove the teeth from the first dog. She went on with scare tactics about how much pain the dogs were in ("even under anesthesia they were responding to touch in a painful manner"-- {which raised the question of how good the anesthesia was} ). The teeth were grossly infected and in essence her strong recommendation would be extraction of the 13 teeth. She offered no options or alternatives other than to abort the procedure. She then asked " how much is the most you are willing to pay?" We ended up in a negotiation over the phone essentially with a gun to our heads with the overwhelming message from her being we would be terrible owners if we didn't agree to her terms. We eventually agreed on $1000.00 Amazingly when she operated on the next dog who historically has worse teeth she only needed to remove a small fraction of the number. We can't help but wonder, was the first dog over treated or the second dog undertreated?. It didn't take long for us to talk to others in the business to hear that in fact there were options,.

The reasons were two-fold: 1) Said "chain" clinic, was virtually impossible to get appointments scheduled at. 2) Said "chain" clinic not only charged a lot more $$$ for everything, but constantly and consistently trying to up-sell. Fern Hill was a breath of fresh air! Less-expensive (although not the cheapest option I had explored), they offered a level of professionalism that I hadn't witnessed at the other veterinary clinic in 10+ years, never tried "upselling" me on unnecessary services, especially when it came time to discuss end of life for my dog, and upon hearing about my dog's crossing the rainbow bridge, made a donation to Fences for Fido in honor of my dog. (While said other place offered condolences upon having numerous pets having passed, just the obligatory verbal condolences -- of which nothing wrong with that, but I thought this was really touching by Fern Hill).

If they changed her personality forever, I am going to be extremely upset. Mostly because there is NOTHING we can do about it. We had a cat once who was given a piece of a food from a kitchen table, and he was never the same ever again. The vet kept calling her "food motivated" but the thing is, she never was before this moment. I felt like I didn't have the power to say anything because she was the "expert." I will never make this mistake again with my baby. Please Ms. Vet, GET CONSENT before you give someone else's animal treats like this. You DID NOT ask for our permission, and we felt trapped and silenced by your nervous energy and non stop talking. Even if you are the expert, that doesn't give you the right to override how other people choose to raise their pet, or assume they want your opinion. We came for medical care, plain and simple.

Compassionate Care - in home dog euthanasia

In a perfect world, I would hope that no one would need to avail themselves of their service and…read moreour beloved animals would live with us forever. When that is no longer the case and tough decisions need to be made, we had an excellent experience with Compassionate Care to say goodbye to our pup. Let me start by saying that every administrative and customer service interaction was timely, clear, and concise. The last thing you want in this situation are delays and confusion. Once I reached out through the contact link on their website, the email response with details about their different services happened within 10 minutes. An intake call to make arrangements for a euthanasia visit at our home was answered by a human and only took a few minutes. They recommend making a reservation 48-hours in advance, but we were put on a wait-list and we moved up our reservation when things opened up. I appreciate that you can reschedule (with four hours advance notice) as well. They have a variety of services, Eco-friendly cremation, and memorial pieces. Everything was arranged in advance, including payment through their web portal, so when the vet arrived for the appointment it was all about our boy and his (and our) comfort. Dr. Wilson clearly walked us through the process, gave us time to say goodbye, provided options, and was a wonderful partner in the process. Cremation is done at a facility in N. Portland, but they have the option of picking up the cremains in Oregon City which was more convenient for us. Having gone through this experience with another pet where we took them to the vet's office, I would highly recommend this option for the pet's comfort. It just felt better saying goodbye in a familiar space surrounded by love.

My experience was okay…read more I made a most difficult decision to let my beloved cat go after a long weekend spent almost entirely in ER trying to figure out why he would no longer eat and why his eye was swelling shut. And an even longer two or three weeks before that fighting to get him to eat. Like others here, Kevin was closer to me than my human family. I was busy with the doctors in ER so my partner called in to make the appointment to ease my stress. He said I was primary contact, but it was difficult to make that clear all the way until the day so communications were continually going to him. Not a big deal in the overall picture, but it didn't make the experience any easier. This was my cat for 8 years before I met my partner and while he loved my baby, I was the one with the lifelong bond. The doctor showed up within the time window allotted. We both found her a little cold. I felt like we were just a job and everything was done by number. My BF picked up my cat and carried him to me, but the doctor said we should do paperwork first which resulted in me putting him down after building up to do what I deemed impossible. I was emotional and crying. This really should somehow be handled before the visit. There were corrections to be made on the form. I was about to lose my baby and this only made me aware that I was filling out his death warrant. I am utterly heartbroken. I know holding your baby until the last minute is catharsis and closure, but I found it traumatizing. His passing was peaceful at least. Everyone's goodbye will be unique, and my example will not necessarily match what others experience. Everyone we spoke to was professional. I just wasn't feeling the compassion.
