I'm going against the grain and saying I like the Banfield model. I do. I like that appointments are available and there are multiple locations I can take my pet to. I like that it's a one-stop shop and they have weekend appointments. In my area, most vets are closed weekends and charge a deposit for a visit, which gets applied to the cost of the visit once completed. People complain about the wellness plan, but pet care is expensive. I'm paying $1200 for the year, which includes all of my dog's vaccines and boosters, labs, X-rays, a teeth cleaning with the meds, and a spay + discounts and waived appointment fees for any other visit. She gets groomed in the same building. Just a spay at any other location was ~$700+. I love boutique vets, as well, but they are not as available, and are often more costly. I haven't had a dog in about 6 years, but my prior dog was on the wellness plan and we never had a bad experience. The staff here is super nice, so not sure why any comments say otherwise. read more

CONSUMER ALERT DO NOT take your pets to Banfield Pet Hospital. Not only does the care tend to be shoddy, but if you have an "optimum wellness plan" they will shake you down! It wasn't enough that they failed to diagnose one of my dog's stomach cancer, even though Tualatin Emergency Veterinary Clinic diagnosed it in one visit, but they won't let you just cancel your wellness plan! All they'll do it set it up to not automatically renew. So we're left paying somewhere in the neighborhood of $700 for three dogs, one of which has been dead for two months. I have been multiple times with a few different cats. Everytime the staff has been extremely kind and caring about my pet. Not crazying waiting times or waiting forever for the doctor. They are upfront about pricing so you know what you're getting into. This being said, they are not low cost in anyway so be prepared if you visit. I used this vet clinic for several years. Recently I switched to a vet outside of Banfield. The last bloodwork that was done on my cat was back in November at Banfield and the vet told us everything looked fine. With choosing a new vet we had them run a full blood panel. The vet told us that our cat is showing signs of kidney disease or a possible auto immune disorder and said that his blood work from the past several years shows elevated levels that should have been of concern for a cat under 5 and addressed by our previous vet. Do not take your pets to Banfield if you care about their health and well being. The health issues with my cat should have been addressed several years ago if not back in November. read more

Me and my family are often treated horribly by staff at this location and talked to as if we aren't human beings. We have given many chances at this specific location. 1. One situation we had was we were told our cat would be a 15 minute pickup wait time and there was no need to leave the building to come back later. 30 minutes passed and i had checked in with the front desk about the time and they didn't bother to look at me and said "your cat will be out shortly" then over 45 minutes passed then over an hour and when i kindly checked in again with front desk staff she didn't bother to look up from her computer and said "Well, next time you could do a drop off." Wow, would've loved to if i wasn't told it was a quick 15 minute appointment and didn't have to leave. 2. We had a situation where we confirmed our appointment previously days before. We arrive to our appointment and it's CANCELLED by staff for "not confirming" the appointment. Of course upset and tried to see if we could be fit in.. The girl at the front desk was rude, gave attitude, didn't bother listening to our side. Got extremely loud to the point where it felt unnecessary and then told my family "hope you have the day you deserve". I didn't realize staff was allowed to speak to customers this way. Of course any human being would be upset their appointment was cancelled without notice and then staff being rude doesn't help. Might i just add in they didn't let my family speak to a higher up or management when they kindly asked to get scheduling resolved, very unprofessional. 3. They've rescheduled my dogs dental appointment over the past year and a half multiple times on multiple occasions with no reasoning except they're 'overbooked' for surgeries. We've looked at other locations but this location keeps "scheduling" us in just to cancel last minute. This location NEVER answers their phone I was trying for 15 minutes and I finally went to the location and their excuse was "oh we're just busy" so I told them maybe think about putting a message "we're sorry if we can't take your call as we are busier than usual, please come to our location for immediate assistance," and this b*tch of an employee says "okay we'll do that friend" she was sarcastic and degrading towards me. I called because my dog Luna has epilepsy and I ran out of refills of her phenobarbital medication and had a couple days of medicine left. My dog needs this medication 2x daily to avoid seizures. A week ago I asked them for an increase to her dosage and a written prescription and for someone to call me when it was ready and they never called I tried calling and calling because i work full time and most weekends and now I'm a couple days without her medicine and she had a seizure today because I couldn't get a hold of them to get her prescription. They are lazy caregivers and if it weren't for the competitive pricing for preventative care I wouldn't have anything to do with them. read more

Please don't bring your pets here if you love them. Today I finally switched to a different location that isn't in a pet store. All they care about is money and honestly keep your pets sick to make sure you keep coming back or at least that's what I think. My dog Luna is an epileptic dog, she has since the vets at this location for 2 years and since being in their care she went from having seizures every few months to 2 weeks. She is 75lbs and they have denied our requests to up her keppra medication because of limits when the new vet told me that she could easily have 2-3x her current dosage and look at the possibility of a brain tumor and could be not even epilepsy and this location made absolutely no possibility of that even when I asked. They also prescribed her simparica trio knowing full well she had seizures and it would make her meds more ineffective instead of the safer revolution. I feel betrayed by these vets and I will never speak or go to them ever again. She is finally being cared for by a vet that cares about her but it certainly wasn't here. They are "preventative only" When I said "then you are not a hospital" they said that they were but they don't handle emergencies. What the heck?! My dog needed stitches badly and every place was "too booked" by preventative appointments for them to have a heart and help my dog. They were rude and not helpful. Or had to decline recommended care because it was so expensive and not covered under the plan. You're much better off going to a local vet you trust. Not happy that I chose this Banfield. My first two visits here were ok but not great. I was talked into getting their wellness plan, but then they continued to try and upsell me on more and more the whole time to the point of being rude about it. I figured I wouldn't have to really go there much apart from the initial shots and neutering. I had the neuter scheduled since late April for the third week in June. My dogs appt is Tuesday and I got a call today Sunday that they needed to cancel because everyone is out sick for the whole week. I could however feel free to call another location cause they won't even try and fit me in for three or more months. Needless to say I was not happy. It's not that people are sick, it's that they are the ones that cancelled and they should work me into their schedule. I live in troutdale and the next closest Banfield is in clackamas. With gas almost 6.00 a gallon this sucks. I called the clackamas Banfield and they were helpful, but their policy is that they have to see my dog before he can be worked on, so now I have to go there several times adding to the gas cost. I am thankful that they will fit me in but I will not be advising anyone to use the Gresham location. The manager said she'd cancel my renewal to the wellness program, but I trust what they say about as much as their customer service ability which is zero. The low score on yelp should have told me something. read more

We had to put our beloved 15 year old pup down this week and the compassion and care my pup and daughter received went above all expectations. Everyone from reception to Vet were so gentle, loving, and careful with our pup. They took a tragic moment and made it bearable for us. And when I've brought my dogs here, the staff seems not very knowledgeable and do not inspire a lot of confidence in their abilities. I've been bringing my cat here for years and it's been reliable and good. But today I had an interaction that somewhat floored me.. I went to get my cat his refill of his prednisone that he's been on for 5+ years. The tech went to get it and came back and goes "huh.. so at some point the meds got switched in the system and it should've been predniSOLONE, not prednisone. He's a cat so the vet said he shouldn't be on prednisone." First of all, this is my pet- who's health and medications I know better than anyone. He had TRIED prednisolone at one point after being on prednisone for a while and it made him sick and so his usual vet agreed that although cats typically don't take prednisone- he should continue it since it works so well. I explained this to the tech and she went back and got the right meds and came back and CONTINUED to tell me how his metabolism must be "unique" since he's being given a med he shouldn't take. Excuse me??? My cat has been on this med for years and it helps him! I was so floored and shocked she (a tech) had the audacity to give her unwarranted opinion and also that the vet working today would attempt to overstep what another vet had done. read more

This experience was very disappointing. We first walk up and are not acknowledged by the reception staff at all. I stand there for some time waiting while another client checks out. Would have been nice for maybe the other staff passing by to say hello or some type of gesture. Then after we check in i'm told to wait on the bench and the Dr. will come out to get us. I arrived 10min early so no worries waiting. After sitting for about 20min we get brought into the room by a technician and she asks a few questions and says the Dr. will be right in. As I sat in the room I look around to find blood splattered all over the room! On the floor, walls, bench. GROSS!! Did they not clean the room from the prior potentially sick patient?? Even worse i'm now left in this room for 35min.... so now that i've had time to soak in all of the filth and annoyed waiting so long past my appointment (40min at this point) and got the listen to the technicians gossip in the back about getting day drunk last weekend I really expected the rest of the visit to go to the same way. Luckily Dr.Vessell was what saved this from being a 1 star review. He was very friendly! We talked a bit about what school he went to etc. He never pushed additional services on me and it was easy to get in and out. Unfortunately I wouldn't return as just the cleanliness of the practice itself is questionable. read more

This place would not even get one star if there was an option to not leave one. I am very disappointed in the service and we've been coming to this hospital for at least 10 years. We recently tried to schedule an appointment due to my pet being very sick which I brought up and they refused to get me an appointment or even allow a drop off. They claimed that they were fully booked and I've left my number to see if any cancellation which I never heard back. I was calling almost daily. In all the years when my dog needed care the most, they declined me and neglected to see us. We've been paying for their banfield plan for almost 10 years and have only used it when truly necessary. I ended up having to take him to a different banfield where they truly tried to help me although they were booked up. They listened to my concern and got me in immediately. I feel like they only care about making money from the plan and have no interest in making sure your pet is taken care of. I am very disappointment with the whole service and situation of everything that has happened. I would not recommend this banfield to anyone if you truly want your pet to be seen with the care it deserves. read more

I began bringing my dogs to Banfield Pet Hospital in Gresham about 6 months ago, when the prices at my local vet were high even for minor visits such as for an ear infection. Yesterday I brought my black lab in for a full checkup including an examination regarding the arthritis in his hind legs. The vet, Dr. Set Vredenburg, was very sensitive, had great communication skills, and took his time examining Smokey. He did not try to sell me on x-rays, which I appreciated. He came up with a workable plan that was affordable. I asked him whether the medication he was prescribing had any contraindications for a dog of Smokey's age, and he replied he'd doublecheck online. I had previously signed up for Banfield's Wellness Plan, because although there's an initial upfront cost, it offers more services at a better cost in the long term. I left paying about what I had anticipated, which was reasonable, given the exams and medication. This morning, someone from Banfield called to check up on Smokey's status. This was an additional customer service effort that I hadn't anticipated. I'm really glad they're open on Sundays, when most vets are closed. read more

Terrible service. Constantly made me feel unwelcomed with my pup. We had a puppy plan for close to a year and I finally just paid the cancellation fee so I won't deal with them ever again. First off, my pup constantly showed sign of aggression around them. And I think he hated every single person there. I have 4 kids and we take my pup to dog parks 3-4 times per week and never ever had a problem with him meeting other dogs. They insisted in dog training and said that this point in his life if he's showing these sign of aggression they would usually put dogs down at over a year cause of their temperament. But I kept questioning why is he doing it there? He's never snipped at any of my kids and like I said he does great with other dogs and people but these dr's must've done something for him to despise him. I gave the 1 star because 0 was not an option. You know your pet hospital hates your dog when they peek in the room and makes a comment like "oh it's that dog again"... That was the last time I was ever there! Terrible assistants, terrible and insensitive dr's. Never will I return to this place! read more

I had by far the worst experience with this location I've had at any banfield. The person up front was very rude when we came in two hours after we had received a call that our dog would be ready soon to see if our dog was finished. She had no sympathy to the fact we had been waiting 8 hours for a simple check up and vaccination. "That's how long it normally takes" was her very curt response. I hope that's not the case all the time because at the other locations I have done this exact visit at it took 1-3 hours. They were short staffed- I get it, everywhere is, but there was absolutely no communication on their end that it would be over 8 hours for our appointment. If that would of been communicated I would have rescheduled. We ended up picking our dog up before she had even gotten her vaccines or anything because it would have been even longer. I will absolutely never be coming back to this location and really hope that women at the front desk treats others better than she treated us. read more

This place has seriously gone downhill. I called Thursday 3/26/20 to order my dogs medication, and made arrangements to pick it up today 3/28/20. Trying to do my part while this corona virus thing is happening. Was told of there was any issues or questions I would be notified. When I walk up to the counter today Salina was sitting at her computer and did NOT acknowledge me whatsoever until another lady walked out of the back and said hello. When I explained why I was there (Salina has started to do her job by this point) she didn't know anything about picking up the medication. After she looked me up, she came out and explained due to the pandemic they didn't have the medication...WHERE WAS THE CALL LETTING ME KNOW THERE WAS A ISSUE?!?!?? She then said they had it but not in the correct dose...so I had to ask if I could supplement with the lower milligram...ISNT THAT HER JOB?!?! So I then had to explain to her that this medication is needed, so yes I will want to supplement. If it wasn't for Dr Vessell I would be looking at other clinics. But I'm to the point I will refuse to work with Salina, this isn't the first time I've had issues with her, just the first time I'm going to review it. If Dr Vessell leaves I will be following him for sure. read more

My dog has a "prescription" diet. Basically a highly balanced dog food with not a single drop of medication in it. Sunday afternoon and old mother Hubbard's cupboard is bare so off to get my dog some food. No prescription, no food was Banfield's decry. "I have a prescription but my vet office is closed on Sundays" I tell them. "Could I get a one time waiver and have his prescription faxed over Monday. I am currently looking for a new vet and you are in the area" I'm told by the vet tech to try and take it thru check out as they sometimes let it slide. The floor manager held her ground and also gave a no. Back to the vet tech and asked to speak to the doctor who refused a waiver. Conveniently he "just went to lunch". They would rather a dog goes hungry than budge on silly prescription for non medicated food that my dog has been on for 4 years. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I've had the most awful experience with them. My dog has been on the wellness plan for almost a year. It was great at the start with the puppy plan. But the more I took him, the more terrified he was. Not only do the animals see like 8 different vets and you never know who you are getting, BUT THEY NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE. I dropped my dog off for a 7:30 appointment to be neutered. By noon I had not received a single phone call about him. I called 6x with no answer! My mom finally called the petsmart and demanded to have someone from banfield put on the phone. It worked. No only did the lady lie but she was rude. She told us he was next on the list and that he would be done soon. Meanwhile my dog hasn't eaten since 8pm the night before because I was told to stop feeding 6 hours before the surgery, but he also has awful separation anxiety. 3 more hours go by with no phone call from them. I called again at 4pm being told he still had not gone in for surgery and that the doctors pick who they wanna do first after he gets there. Plus the cone I paid for is too small and he can easily access the surgery site. It's been such a stressful day. I'm canceling the wellness plan and going somewhere else. This is the second to worse place to take your animal in gresham. They clearly want nothing but your money and could care less about your animals. When I first came to Banfield and went over care options I triple double checked that I was NOT getting myself into some sort of contract and that I would be able to stop treatments or payments at anytime with no problems or extra fees. My other half and I were both informed that Banfield does NOT do contracts.... low and behold they sure as hell do for 12 months ! So now I'm stuck paying almost $80 a month for horrible service and no care for my animal who has been suffering horribly. They refuse to give my animal any kind of prescription drug for her ear infection until I pay them 300+ for an ear swob. Like wtf for? Anyone can look at my dog and know right away her ear is infected and she needs medication. I'm already tight on funds and now this. I'm find taking my pup a different place but paying 80 bucks a month as a single parent and for nothing is not ok. I've been going to this location for years and always had a great experience. Unfortunately I will not be going back due to the lack of professionalism from the vet that we saw. I took in my puppy for some vaccinations and check up. When I brought my puppy into the exam room we chatted with the vet tech about any concerns and then the vet came in. When the vet came in she started asking me if he'd been coughing, throwing up, etc and I said no he's been fine. I then added that he has been sniffling for a bit and she goes "yeah that's what i meant when i asked you the first time if he's been throwing up, etc." She asked me the food we were using and then was grilling us that we shouldn't be using it, and "I don't know where you read that this food was ok for him..." I told the vet that he hasn't had any problems and it's for all breeds and all stages of life. I told her that we've been doing the same diet for our other dog since he was a puppy that's the same breed and there hasn't been any problems, but she just proceeds to keep on telling me that I'm basically wrong and a bad pet parent. Then I asked her about the health plan to sign him up on and she told me that I couldn't because the account is under my mothers name and she wasn't with me. Mind you I'm 22 years old I don't need my mommy to come with me to sign my dog up on a pet plan. When I asked her why couldn't put him under my account because I did it last year with my other dog no problem she basically was walking out the door and was like "I don't know why they let you do that, they should've never have" and then walks out. Thankfully the vet tech that was there was super nice and has helped us before and she let me sign him up with no problem. Like I said I will not be coming back to this location unless they get more vets because I do not appreciate to be talked down to like I'm stupid. I think that if she did have any real concerns that she could've delivered her message in a different way.
